FAN just decked Grealish

It's certainly a quandary - on the one hand I hate the type of idiot drunken football "fan" who would run on the pitch and do this

But then on the other hand I also thoroughly dislike Grealish because he's a grand example of what I hate about modern footballers

So I suppose I hope that both sides learn a lesson. I hope the guy who assaulted him gets an adequate punishment and I also hope that footballers stop thinking it's cool to display their arrogance to the fans and stop thinking that it's funny to go out of their way to wind opposition fans up.

If pushing is an attack then I was attacked about 50 times in the pub yesterday.

Hopefully I can find a no win no fee lawyer because I should be in for some serious compensation!

How many of them ran a hundred yards or so to do it though?

Jeff Hendrick was out up Derby after we lost to Forest at home, Osborn late winner. I’ve seen Will Hughes having a fag outside of the casino before. There’s a video of Chrissy Martin absolutely pissed out of his face on a Christmas night out, the busiest part of the season. That’s just the stuff I don’t think is libel as well.

Footballers do stuff that normal people in their teens and twenties get up to, Jack Grealish is no exception and for whatever reason is hammered by the media for it.

Do you think footballers back in the day werent doing stuff like that aswell. Tony Adams would turn up for games p*ssed. Thats just one example.

Fine - if highly paid role models being arrogant makes your tail hard - each to their own.

Likewise, I happen to think that being a top level professional footballer is a privilege, and with it should come a responsibility to not act like a an idiot and recognise that people who earn a tiny fraction of what you earn spend their money on watching you play. You are a role model to a generation of kids. Is it really that difficult to be a decent human being?

We all love it when we see footballers in the dressing room with disabled kids, or visiting people in a local hospital - so why get so defensive over those that let the fans down?

Why does it matter how much you earn ? I think Jack acted like a role model yesterday. Got attacked. Got on with with the game, scored the winner. I think kids will look up to that to be honest.

Think the reaction in the media is almost as bad as the incident to be honest. Pundits, ex-footballers, journos, none of whom stood on crumbling wrecks of terraces, caged in like animals in the zoo because of the actions of a few, advocating bringing back fencing. Must be the time of the year to distract folks from the real scum in this country and start denigrating the working class.

Not that I'm saying this moron doesn't deserve a ban, jail and sterilisation, but the overreaction to what is an extremely rare incident in which no one was actually hurt is incredible.

Headlines like "invasions on the rise" with graphs showing an increase of like 10 invasions over the course of a season... people forget how many people attend football and how few incidents there actually are in relation.

"He could have had a knife" - yeah but he didn't. He could have ran on and given him a kiss, but he didn't. Quit the hypotheticals.

Fair play to Grealish for his reaction too.

Birmingham should be heavily fined with a points deduction. There has to be a deterrent against pitch invasions or we should have to return to fencing off the pitch. By the same token, at the end of a season if a club states no coming on to the pitch like the Derby fans do, then the same punishment should happen; stay in your seats boys and girls.

Fair enough - he needs to do a bit more of that, and a lot less acting like an idiot in public, winding up opposition fans, needless displays of arrogance etc

His tweet last night for example - jesus, and we wonder why people want to punch him?

This is the kind of thing that makes people dislike Grealish?

Come on, you are far better than that.

I think you three need to go back to that linked article, and take another look... and much closer this time.

...The main pic of Grealish shows him clearly wearing what was referred to as "rouge" back in the '70's!  No doubt "Tone-matching cheekbone highlighter" in today's limp-wristed free world!  Well, it's about as "Tone-matching" as a blue plaster on a chef's finger!

No wonder @StivePesley thinks lowly of him!

They aren't role models. They're blue collar workers. I agree it's disgusting how much they get paid, but until we cancel our season tickets and stop paying Sky subscriptions we're the ones enabling it.

Why should footballers not wind opposition fans up when most weeks they are subjected to dogs abuse from the stands?

I do wonder why people would want to punch him based upon this?

I presume then you also want to punch Zlatan ?

I agree with everything you say with the exception of how much they get paid. The average footballer will earn less than myself, they are the cream of their profession and you are probably only talking a few thousand, if that, world wide that get these “obscene” amounts of money, if you are the best in your profession why not get rewarded for it and have that incentive for others to aspire to.

Movie stars, tennis players, pop stars are all the same, can never understand why footballers bear the brunt of such a criticism, just my opinion but I say good luck to them if they can get it.
