How would you convince Jason Shackell to go and be backup at Millwall for Hutchinson and Cooper when he’d presumably be getting the same wage. No point at all him wanting to go there from his perspective unless something else is offered or guaranteed.

Is there any actual difference between a loan and a permanent move for a player whose contract is up in the summer now that there's no recalls possible?

Not for the Rams. But yes to Millwall and even more to the player.

Try before you buy.

A Loan involves a loan fee trhese days, sometimes quite high... but it allows either party to pull out if they see fit in the summer.

Loans are often with a view to a permanent signing, but are non commited, until thje player has put in 3 months at the club. It allows both parties to see if its a good fit for them

So how would that be different to a short contract to the end of the season?

GR: Jason we've a club in London interested in you

JS: London club ....woohooo! Who?

GR: Millwall

JS: silence..........................

You'd need to be examined if you wanted to move and play for such an odious club!!

I'd have agreed with this a few years' ago, but Harris seems like a top guy and he's got them playing good football including some terrific goals - see their performances against Sheffield United, Boro and Leeds.  Harris seems to have instilled a great team spirit.  Even their fans don't seem quite as nasty as they used to.

Oh, was it his step Dad?

He’d already blabbed off on the Barnsley forum that ‘he was going to start watching Derby soon’ or something like that
