Try before you buy. A Loan involves a loan fee trhese days, sometimes quite high... but it allows either party to pull out if they see fit in the summer. Loans are often with a view to a permanent signing, but are non commited, until thje player has put in 3 months at the club. I'd have agreed with this a few years' ago, but Harris seems like a top guy and he's got them playing good football including some terrific goals - see their performances against Sheffield United, Boro and Leeds.
