All clubs suffered losses during the Covid period that wasn't just particular to Derby but no other club has gone into administration. It is going to be hard to prove that Covid was the cause when other clubs have survived. It needs to be proved as the cause not as a factor.

I have no problem with Ashley potentially taking over at Derby
He pays the Bills - he doesn’t sell cheap - we currently have most of what we need as a club.
we tried the very rich local man in MM who has chosen to walk away - we nearly ended up with a fake Arab and a Spanish waiter
we did end up with administration
Give me a British based business man who wants to be appreciated
I don’t care if PP is name after one of his company’s - just sponsor us.
after the last 20 years I would settle for being in a relegation scrap in the premiership 4 in 5 seasons and coming through it.
This also makes sense to Ashley - it’s a business in distress and it just needs initial money in all reality, that can build to a nice profit whilst keeping a nice profile and he has local presence in Shirebrook not to mention two new shops opening in the city soon.

the Administrators should have the red carpet rolled out in his direction as we have no idea what we would get with someone else if there turns out to be anyone else!

    From Derby County's wiki page....
Derby is often acknowledged as a "passionate football town" by rival supporters[50] and the press alike. Tony Francis of The Daily Telegraph noted, "Derby is a passionate football town... Even in Division Two, it's a reasonable bet that crowds at Pride Park would not fall far below 20,000. It's historical, it's geographical, it's in the blood. Some places have it, some don't."

I still don't fully understand how Bennett & Lawrence got away with fines and Keogh got sacked despite him just being the passenger.
I understand he has a degree of responsibility as club captain, but i still feel/felt the punishment was over the top, as proved in a court of law. Your point about Mel trying to save money and seeing it as an opportunity to get Keogh off the wage bill seems to make sense now. Ironically it's actually ended up costing us a lot more money which pretty much sums up Mel's running of the club to be honest.
Lawrence was more at fault than Keogh for the 'incident', yet Keogh gets sacked for not being a good club captain essentially. Fast forward a couple of years and Lawrence now gets promoted to club captain?. Could only happen in Football! and even more so, could only happen at Derby?

I'm honestly still on Keoghs side with this.
He should have been fined and that's it (which would have saved the club money overall given what eventually happened), and we may even have got some games out of him when we were short on players last season. He was found to have been wrongfully dismissed by law. The way Derby acted was probably a desperate attempt to save money as Mel's gambles all started to catch up to him. The way he was treated made a lot of our own players and former players dislike us, and maybe even stopped other players joining us.
Keogh was a good player for us overall and should have been remembered that way. Its just another thing Mel's ruined. Obviously Keogh takes some blame but if he was just fined he could have eventually recovered his relationship with the club.

Of course it's going to be Keogh's spin on things and DCFC do make a good "all purpose sports villain" for the papaers right now.
I don't think it's neccessarily not true, but i do think it's only a one sided version. I'm not going to rage and be disgusted at anything in that article. I think the "just a few ales" stuff is probably underselling it a bit, there vidoes of puking in toilets going round i remember....
I'm a bit surprised about the "oh Tom was genuinly sorry so he's still my pal" stuff, jezz, i'd stuggle if i thought my mates had left me for dead in a crashed vehicle.
At the time, i thought Keogh's sacking was justified, what wasn't was retaining Lawrence and Bennett. And if they retain Lawrence and Bennett they can't also justify sacking keogh because he's injured and it's financially worth it. I wasn't surprised Keogh won.

There is one thing that to me is in excusable…NOT PAYING HMRC…..he’s supposed to be an astute businessman yet fails to pay the tax bill ….if he had cleared this and left then so be it…but to try and get a buyer to take on his debts to the HMRC is laughable …imagine any of us getting a job and the employer saying oh by the way the previous incumbent didn’t pay his taxes so you’ve got to pay them ….joke …no sympathy …taken us into admin and he’s not short of money ….good riddance and before anyone says he spent money he tried his best …we as fans trusted him as the club was under his control to run it properly …not run it into the ground!!!!! ?

Thanks Mel for ruining our beloved club , there’s only one person accountable for the position we are in Mel and that’s you.
I know you have tried to chase the riches of the Premier League but you ultimately failed and have left DCFC in a very precarious position with little hope of survival.

We are playing to avoid relegation this season nothing else especially when we can’t sign any forwards so every point gained is a point won in that quest - without the supporters and our two hugely experienced centre half’s we would fold with so many youngsters playing regularly but those two centre half’s are a total inspiration to all who play and watch from our point of view.

    Can’t win Rooney really.
Last season he was bemoaned for not having a system, and most matches trying to match-up with our opponents.
This season he has developed a system, agreed ill suited to a number of our players, but at least he wants to try to play football. However it seems a good few now want him to change things to match-up with our opponents.
He has 15 established players, a good number on low wages, and a large number of inexperienced youngsters. The team spirit looks good, and at times last night played the ball around nicely.
We lost last night because of one horrendous mistake, one unfortunate bit of luck, and because most of our forward players were off their game (Sibley, Lawrence and Baldock didn’t really contribute a great deal).
Rooney should never have come to the Club, blame Morris for that. We should, a club of our stature, have a pretty decent playing staff. We haven’t, blame Morris for that.
Now though is a time to get right behind Rooney and all the players. Nothing is going to change until Morris goes, so let’s back our team to the hilt not undermine everything they are trying to achieve.

Each game we keep hoping for an improvement but it never seems to come. Just disappointment. Agreed, it's not only Rooney's fault but there must be a point in time when the line in the sand is crossed?
Ten games has to be the very maximum but by then it might be too late. It could be beyond repair.
Personally, I was disappointed when the club dispensed with Nigel Clough. The progress was steady but it seemed to be small, certain steps in the right direction.
I haven't studied the statistics but it may well have been the wrong decision to bring Wayne Rooney to the club in the first place. It seems to have been a downward spiral since he arrived.

Cocu got a pretty average Derby team to tenth during his first season in charge despite everything that went against him. Sibley, Bird and Knight all performed far better under him.
His transfer targets such as Dursun, Panzo and Moore had brilliant seasons last year.
Cocu was a slow burner. But he improved players and could spot potential transfer targets to move us forward. His time at PSV proved with the right pieces in place, he could succeed.
But he was undermined by Wayne Rooney's arrival while restricted from making any signings due to the circumstances caused by Mel Morris. Bizarre you would give up on him after the Charlton away game, which was about 10 game into his first season, working with an average squad. What were you expecting? Bielsa-ball?
There were signs after that we were on the right track. Like the back-to-back wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn, the latter a crushing 3-0 win where Wayne Rooney didn't even play.
Post lockdown, we still had momentum and Louie Sibley was being talked about as a potential superstar. But by that point, Rooney's fitness was so dire we were starting games with ten players.
Cocu's job come the second season was impossible. We were obliged to play Rooney who was awful, while we started the season without a recognised striker due to an embargo and the Martin fiasco.
The subsequent improvement in form after Cocu's exit was down to Rooney retiring and Krystian Bielik coming back. Not only were we playing with 11 men again, but we had arguably the best midfielder in the league absolutely running it for us.
