I’m assuming as it stands we couldn’t offer him a new contract? Although, the other side of it is that what sort of club sells a player knowing they can’t replace him other than with a free transfer on a year contract?
It’s just bad optics. I’d keep Buchanan for the season and let him go for free. Brown has already headed to Switzerland, who could’ve replaced him, so unless we’re expecting Forsyth to play 50 games next season then we really don’t have a choice but to keep him regardless of what’s on the table.

I strongly disagree. I think we were all optimistic about our situation 12 months ago. We had signed the likes of Jozwiak and Ibe. The lack of a striker was disconcerting, but we still had our top goalscorer - Waghorn - contracted to the club. Mike Te Wierik and Matt Clarke were signed up. David Marshall and Nathan Byrne too. Also, at that point, we had just finished 10th in the league thanks to some outstanding performances from Louie Sibley towards the back end of the season. It was like the second coming of Giles Barnes.
It didn't go anything like we suspected. Jozwiak didn't make nearly the impact we thought he would, Ibe barely touched the field. MTW was awful from the get go. Marshall started very well but later got bogged down with the tripe infront of him. Rooney decided to stop moving and play manager. The best signing we made, ironically, was the one that no one wanted - Kazim-Richards. We barely stayed in the division.
This season we have roughly 2 weeks until the season starts, no centre backs on the books. The embargo means we are really able to sign players no one else wants, at this level, unless Rooney can pull in some favours with loan moves. We currently have only one player who scored more than 5 goals in the team going into the season. By all accounts, we are about in as bad of a situation as you can possibly get, plus we still don't know if we will receive a point deduction this season and won't until the accounts and P&S are posted. I'd imagine as we are dragging it out that all roads lead to yes, but who knows. We would be able to get rid of the bloody embargo if we could get our affairs in order - and they WERE in order.
All that being said: we have definitely quashed expectation. We were one of the favourites for a promotion run last season. Now, we're the 4th from bottom favourites for promotion - with no option to bet on our relegation because of the potential point deduction we may face. We are effectively posted as the 4th worst team in the division from the off. I think that does help and ultimately it could lead to some teams taking their eye off the ball early doors against us - perhaps resting a few players as we're seen as an easy 3 points. We've not had that luxury too often. Well, aside from Swansea, who still dicked us with their second string last season.

Short sighted on our part, potentially, but makes sense given our predicament. I’d try and reduce whatever sell on fee rather than completely eradicate it. I would say that there is a deal to be made though.

If he’s as good as advertised then I would imagine that getting in West Brom’s team isn’t going to cause him the slightest bit of bother. The benefit for Man City sending him here is that they could write off potentially 10s of millions in future fees by just giving him to us for a season (half a season). I do think West Brom would be the best move for him, though, as they have a lot of talent to surround around him. It’s easier to score 30+ goals for West Brom at this level than 15+ for Derby. You will get far more recognition for the former too.

He’s training with us, under the caveat that the absolute maximum we can offer is £11k a week (or just shy of) and a one year deal by the end of it. I believe he was linked with a move to Bolton before we stepped in. I doubt any other offers from the Championship are on the table because, well, quite frankly he wouldn’t be here. Same with all the lads currently training with us.
I’m not sure what Bolton can offer nowadays, but that’s really where we are financially. I doubt Jagielka is going to be running to the bank with our offer, considering his career.

Stearman's last performance at this level was being bombed off at half-time as Huddersfield were 5-0 down and having watched the highlights, I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it. He's all over the place. It could well be one of the worst individual performances ever at this level, essentially having a fault in all five goals. I really hope he doesn't make the cut over Jagielka or Wisdom.

If I go to the bank tomorrow and withdraw all the money in my account, savings and shares, place all of it on red - does that make me a genius if I win and an idiot if I lose?
Even if I win, I’m still a careless idiot for even putting my families future in that balance. The decisions made my Mel would’ve been tolerable HAD we won the bet, but as we didn’t we are now paying the price.
It’s that kind of recklessness that was always going to catch up with us regardless, even more so when you consider the array of bad choices we make a seasonal basis.

I have a lot of time for Mel Morris, but it doesn't stop him from being one of the worst, possibly most careless (dangerous) owners this club has ever had in its 137 year history.
Every decision he has made has led up to this point. He had ample opportunity and money to correct mistakes along the way, but he didn't. We've effectively had the same recruiting staff since he walked through the door and the evidence is there to show they're one of the worst in the country - if not the worst in the country.
We can blame the EFL as much as we like, ultimately Mel's decision making and processes in place have left us in a *almost* unsurmountable hole and on our way to division 3 for only the third time in our history, bogged down with 10s of millions worth of debt. I don't know how much influence Pearce had on our amortisation policy, but he's another one that's possibly led Mel up the garden path and still making decisions for him now. He simply trusts the wrong characters and believes he's the smartest man in the room. He's painted himself into this corner.

I guess it frees up 4 positions, but with the stipulations around those 4 positions then I can't imagine it's going to be easy to decide. I would go for Jagielka, who has a more reliable injury history than Davies. Mengi on loan. Wisdom, who can cover CB and RB. The last position you would realistically want to go for a striker.
I like Davies, but as a team with not much room to maneuver and limited cover, we simply can't go for a 36 year old who is coming off a season where he spent 90% of it in the treatment room when the maximum number of CBs we realistically have will be 2, with others that can cover.
