I think if you could take  anyone under the age of about 35 whose only experienced football in modern all seater  stadia back in time to a game at the baseball ground in the 70s, they would be awestruck. Firstly everything was sort of grey and run down, grim and very working class. The streets were narrow, the housing really grim street after street, all red brick. The closer you got to the ground the more windows were boarded to stop a brick or bottle growing though. It was the underlying feeling of menace that is hard to describe and you got to be able to spot the signs of when something would kick off. Even then there was far more trouble outside the ground than in and some matches it would flare up all the way back to the station as away supporters got separated from each other. I couldn’t count the times I’ve been close to it but only once got a bit of a kicking from West Ham on Shaftesbury street, saved by a police horse galloping up the street giving out a bit of stick to the cockneys. Even at home Derby  didn’t have the numbers compared to Leeds or Man U but the warren of streets meant there would often be opportunity for the numbers to even out. My first away match at Hillsborough in 1969 saw a sizeable set to in tne kop and you got the tell tale separation in the crowd and then fists and boots flying. Although it was sort of horrible at times I’m glad I’ve got the memories as the experience of football from the terraces is gone forever.

Do we often talk about our successes in the Anglo Italian cup or the Texaco cup….No
Do we often talk our promotion successes….Yes.

I didn’t mention the Watney cup as I have fond memories of that and it wasn’t played under normal football rules . 🐏🐏🐏😂

The really worrying thing to me is that we did supposedly strengthen in the last window… Bradley, Ward, Fornah… er….:😳
The two best signings- Nyambe and Wilson - seemed to fall into our laps almost by accident…

We walloped them 4-1 they finished with 8 men on the pitch and Mc Dermott was sent from the dugout too, think that's what riled the Newcastle fans so much.

Yeah, I was at that game. 3 players sent off for Newcastle and I think we only won one-nil.
The time that sticks most in my mind was a game against Chelsea when all routes back to the bus station were closed off.
Ran a lot of miles that day. Still, I suppose it helped keep you fit.

Not that easy at the BBG. The route for home fans to the bus station was the same as the route for away fans to the railway station.
For a bona fide coward like myself, I expected to have to 'run away' as part of the matchday experience.

Disappointing to concede two soft goals. Lack of concentration, especially from the corner which I felt took us by surprise when taken short and we weren’t set properly.
I thought they were the better team but maybe a draw was a fair result. We just have to move on and go on another run. That’s what teams who get promoted do. You need 3 of these runs so two to go!
Fleetwood and Burton become important matches now - both games we have to win and should win if we want to finish top two.
Let’s get behind them. These players are in league 1 for a reason, even Boro’s excellent wide men missed sitters, and will make mistakes.
Football is a fickle mistress. From delight to despair and hopefully back again soon.

Some people on here are pretty harsh on Collins tonight. Not sure what game some are watching if they think he played poorly.
Chased absolutely everything down. Couple of lovely touches. The one chance we created for him. He scored from.
Doesn't matter who's upfront in this team with the service they get. Some of the crosses from Barkhuizen were a hate crime. He did everything I'd want my centre forward to do. Worked his arse off, led the line, had one chance and took it. Fully deserved his goal.
Thought the first 10 minutes of the first half we couldn't get going, but credit to Lincoln for starting on the front foot. But after that I thought we took control and deservedly took the lead.
Can't legislate for Ward giving that penalty away. But it just highlights for me what I knew. He's not an out and out right back. But it gave Lincoln a massive lift and they came out second half and started well again. But again after 10 minutes we took control and deservedly won.
Wildsmith hasn't had a save to make and other than a really good block from Cashin, they never troubled us.
I heard one fan moaning outside the ground that it's not "sexy football". Hate to break it to you mate but sexy football doesn't exist in this league. It's all about winning and getting out of it.
Much better performance than Saturday. Big win against a decent side.
I honestly think people are disappointed not to see us play teams off the park for 90 minutes. Which is never going to happen.
Wilson did well when he came on. Nelson and Cashin outstanding.
Get to January in touching distance of the top and we've got a great chance if we can strengthen well.
    Up The Rams!
Merry Christmas to you all. Hope you and your families have a good one.

I know work rate is something anyone can do but Collins was phenomenal in that aspect tonight.
Some good touches under pressure and a good goal which closed the game out.
I think that’s harsh to say he didn’t play well.

Thought Warne did well tonight. Good decisions. As someone else said his interview made a lot of sense too.

good goals. Sibley Wilson cashin and Nelson played well.
personally thought Collins was fine and did finsih well which was good to see. 13 goals (admittedly a fair few in Papa johns pop idol st Johnstones paint confederations cup)
wish we didn’t flaming drop those  two pints ..
January on and off the pitch vital but so are these next three games

Promotion seasons are rare and brilliant. Dont wait until the end to enjoy it, Get to every game you can and sing your heart out for 98 minutes, then when you are old, you will remember these days like us lot do the Clough, Cox and Smith days.
Come on you great big beautiful Rams.

Pleased they're miserable, of course and I hope their next appointment fails abysmally.
I have to question the Cooper love-in though. Absolutely fluked promotion with some awful officiating, and a lot of luck against a poor set of play off opponents.
44 signings, hundreds of millions spent, to finish 16th ahead of some basket case clubs and even more of the same this time.

We were bang average today and our game management was very poor, along with a slow tempo and not executing basic skills to a professional standard. But it’s 16 points from 18 so we can’t complain too much. The recruitment in the Jan Window is crucial to us gaining automatic promotion.

droned on about it again, about 10 % of the crowd probably remember or saw it happen. Such a pity the three promoted teams are so crap

I don't care too much about "watching Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal". I only Match of The Day (fast forwarding through the the pundits bits of course) for something to watch.
I yearn for the day when the "big clubs" disappear off to some mega bucks super league.

Yeah agree we haven’t got much option. Feel like we’re missing that magic in the middle but can’t see us pursuing that kind of player until Hourihane has gone.

Today is a bit more ammunition to show Smith and Hourihane doesn’t work as a pairing. Wasn’t much coincidence the goals came when Fornah was on.

The bit in bold is something I’ve been mulling over.
I don’t think Warne is a good long term planner or strategist, he focuses on short term wins.  This may explain his promotions followed by immediate relegations.  In some way, who can blame him when you see the flak for a defeat.  I think we’ll see less U21 layers used in the EFL Trophy, which is a shame as it’s an ideal stage to gain experience.  He wants the short term wins.  He’s more Mourinho than Fergie - Mourinho built teams for the short term, Fergie built clubs to leave a legacy.
For what it’s worth I wouldn’t say I’m pro-Warne but I’m pro-stability as I do think give a manager time we’ll benefit in the long run.  But I’m wavering as to whether Warne is that manager.

It is old school, but if you have a winger very good at crossing, and a centre forward who is good in the air, it can be a great sight to behold. Unfortunately we have neither. With the players we have it seems the least obvious way of achieving success.

I remember it well. They had a catering van up in the corner of the terrace that served beer, from where we watched the Rams fightback, pints in hand. That corner has gone now I'm guessing.
