He's not a bad player in the round, and should have some sympathy. But his fee amount had a major impact on nearly bankrupting the club. Not all his fault - you can't blame him for a) Mel Morris being prepared to sign him at inflated rates b) him getting injured.
But for sheer damage of one signing in isolation, he is hard to parallel.

kevinhectoring reacted to vonwright in Haydon Roberts - signed for Bristol City
Shame. Think he's already a very good player who will get better. Presumably he knows this, which is why he wants to play at a higher level.
This is one reason I don't like it when people say 'i don't mind missing out on promotion, we weren't ready, gives us no time time to plan' etc etc. If you miss out on promotion it makes it much harder to keep and attract good young players.

kevinhectoring got a reaction from jimtastic56 in Are we still a draw for players?
it’s not saying much tho, and if you’re a home grown youngster at a big London club Derby might as well be in Scotland

is ‘average height’ of a team a thing? Personally I’d like a keeper who’s well over 6’, a couple of CBs over 6’1, and a 6’2 centre forward who is not called Collins. I don’t care if the rest are Midgets like Messi or Maradona or Modric

Glad the DET confirmed it, I couldn't just believe Haydon himself.

his best crosses are beautiful. the best things he does are not beautiful in the slightest they are just hard work by a steadfast and honest professional. thats why he's underrated

kevinhectoring reacted to Ambitious in David McGoldrick - joined Notts County
I'm not sure Notts County link has anything to it. I could be wrong, but I just don't see it for a few reasons:
1) County have put some effort in to developing younger players, i.e. Rodrigues, Langstaff, Scott, etc. They do have a couple of players over 30, but I feel like McGoldrick doesn't fit their current recruitment model. Obviously, McGoldrick IS McGoldrick which leads me to my next point.
2) David McGoldrick at Derby County can probably earn somewhere in the region of £500k next season. Notts County's highest earner is probably sat somewhere around the £200k mark. They may pay him more, but ultimately he's going to be taking roughly 50% wage cut to join a newly promoted team to League 2.
3) McGoldrick supports Notts County as a club, sure, but the club and the people within the club are two very different entities. In reality, who a player supports, has very little bearing on any decision on their future. How well would he get on with the players, managers, etc.
To me, it seems very unlikely that he would turndown £10k a week (roughly) here after arguably his best season in professional football for 4-5k a week at Notts County. Again, I could be wrong but I think it's a bit of a fantasist suggestion that's grew legs.

I’m purely guessing on this basis and D.M being a fairly smart guy, being as he can negotiate for himself, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to imagine after all these years, he might know a friendly journalist to run a story of notts county being interested.
He may well still want to sign for us, best season ever, the hat tricks, all other things considered ; it still wouldn’t be a bad tactic, part of playing hard ball as you go into negotiations.
Anyway, still think he’ll sign 🐑

kevinhectoring got a reaction from BaaLocks in Who is class, I mean a cut above ?
he’s classy when he’s on it but his intensity is so so patchy. it improved end of season. A player like that saps energy out of a team and unsettles other players. I am surprised Warne has so much faith in him - he cuts right against the approach Warne claims he wants

kevinhectoring reacted to Jram in Who is class, I mean a cut above ?
Warne loves intensity but he also loves a set piece and Hourihane, for any faults, can put in a decent corner/free kick. Would be interested to see our Xg from set pieces last season compared to goals scored because Warne seemed to think we should have scored a lot more
