Not a fan of this decision. It absolutely stinks of short term thinking which I thought we'd all had enough of under Mel. In the long term Warne has not shown he can do an adequate job in the second division which is where we want to be. As a result of this we're ripping up the playbook 11 games in and giving the reigns to a bloke who's style of football is antithetical to the one we've been playing? I just can't make it make sense. I agree Rosenior could have done better, I've felt at times quite critical of our tactics and performances even when we've won games but this is a damn stupid appointment.

I'd have stuck with Rosenior at least until Christmas and reviewed it then tbh.

In fairness Bird was on for more than half the match (56 minutes) and XG can be quite an unreliable statistic depending on who collated the data. That data also fails to identify Bird's contribution to the play as an individual.  Tbh, I think whilst we started building up a head of steam from 25 minutes, we did look better as the second half wore on but I attribute that to more than simply Bird going off.

That was a really odd game. The first 20 minutes were shocking on all fronts with the team looking disjointed, disorganised and ready for a roasting. The first goal came from a defensive error due to an apparent lack of communication (not the first time) and it looked like Wildsmith should have saved it? McGoldrick and Sibley did not work as a front pairing with both coming short creating a massive gap in the middle and a lack of a focal point. Several times Knight was the highest presser which made little to no sense either. We were still ponderous at times but when we showed any tempo in our passing and movement they struggled to cope with it.

We began to create more as the half went on, Roberts down the left pushed on and we began to look more menacing as we got a grip on the game. But the shape issues continued I think leading to crosses to nowhere, needing to take multiple touches on the ball before we found a pass and allowed Wycombe to gather themselves. Despite this we should have been level by half time tbh. Cashin made a fantastic last ditch tackle to save us. If Wycombe had been more daring, they could have found space in the channel and gave us some significant problems but they didn't.

Second half we started poorly suffering from a stuttering start. They could have scored a second and been out of sight tbh. Rosenior then changed it, at the time I thought he'd lost the plot. No left sided defender on the pitch and McGoldrick came really deep and stuck himself out wide where he was less effective. The result was a total lack of presence in the middle of the pitch in the final third again. But NML despite his lack of ball quality terrorised them, turned the defender inside out and created the space we needed. The change in formation really stretched them out and Collins coming on gave us more of a focal point. Once we'd got the second we could have got 3-4 as they looked unable to cope with us once they weren't dug in showing the potential of our front line up once they're unleashed and have a bit of space.
For me it's a strange result, not one that necessarily papers over the cracks but the game today highlighted both our current limitations and potential. Liam today said he'd need a few months to see what works and what doesn't best, what partnerships function together. I think he needs to do it more quickly than that but he is the man for the job. He clearly has a strong affinity with the club (his reaction today shows it all) and has put together a team that could challenge for promotion. If we played a team today who was more expansive and brave that could have been a very ugly afternoon. Fortunately, they sat in and tried to defend what they had which they inevitably couldn't. If we can use wing-backs such as Roberts and NML, push hourihane into a more advanced midfield slot combining with mcgoldrick and collins that could be very potent as an attacking system. Bird and Knight could balance the center nicely  with a trio of cb's that aren't the most pacey but have an awareness and strength that is a level above this division.

but I still wouldn’t swap our club with any other, particularly with those toxic pits of greed and entitlement dressed as sleeping giant football clubs (see Derby, Sunderland, Peterborough, Ipswich, MK etc).

I loved that today. First 20 mins were poor but we improved and then the subs / change of formation really changed the game. I thought McGoldrick was excellent and so good to have Knight’s energy in midfield, he made loads of forward runs. And hats off to Wildsmith, I’m starting to really like him.
The view from behind the dugouts was great, I’ll definitely try to get that seat again if I’m on my own. All in all a very nice way to spend my birthday.

Waited until today to post as I was seething after the match tbh. Thanks so much for @Bossfor the tickets as besides the game me and my gf had a cracking time in Lincoln.  The performance was utterly abject from first to last, mistakes littered the game but tactically Rosenior is either blind or stubborn at this point. I said a couple of weeks ago we were making chances and it was bad luck but I now feel there are systemic issues hindering us. There is absolutely no urgency playing out the back and once a team presses us we look decidedly nervous and are almost bound to make an error. Wildsmith's distribution is also absolutely shocking and needs working on asap.
In the middle playing both Bird and Hourihane is suicide, both ball players who lack any bite or willingness to track their man or contribute in any way besides spraying slow 10-20 yard passes back and sidewards.  Someone mentioned Bird might be wanting to talk to his agent, well given his start to the season I wouldn't care one bit if he did. It isn't helped by the lack of quality out wide, NML can't cross or finish to save his life (no consistency at all in whether he pings, balloons or gets the ball in the middle at all and misses too many chances) Dobbin too often tries to dribble and looses it and Barkhauzen can't finish. Collins isn't being used properly so I don't want to blame him too much and the service he's getting is horribly inconsistent.
Our slow tempo, dubious quality, and lack of cohesion are creating a team that are too easy to defend and attack against. Our midfield lacks shape and a willingness and ability to actually contribute defensively leaving the defence over exposed. We've seen this in a lot of games this season and it's partly why Cashin is making so many last ditch challenges. The slow tempo, lack of a central outlet for a ball in the final third and poor quality out wide are all contributing to a lack of clear chances and clinical finishing against teams who decide they're going to sit in and close down hard against us.

It's embarrassing to lose and put in a performance that deserved nothing against a team struggling at the bottom of division 3. There is no other word for it, utterly embarrassing and I hope the players and staff woke up this morning feeling quite ashamed that this has happened. Yes, every team we play against will give an extra 10% and so will their fans because we're not Sutton United. But the fact that we are Derby County needs to be a reminder to every single player to not only give everything in the shirt but demand a certain level of performance that we ultimately expect of them. Last night was not good enough, Plymouth was not good enough, Shrewsbury was not good enough. We need to get our heads out of our collective ar*** and demand better.
