We will have to agree to disagree but the tone of some posters does seem to be superior and getting at people personally. They may not mean to but if you are someone who lives and breathes Derby but cant always go when wanting to then yes you would be "a bit touchy" about it. And by "bit touchy" I mean sick to death of it.

Almost every club has ‘maxed out the credit card’ - that’s why they need the £8.3m (same as we do). The difference is that when all clubs lose their gate receipts it doesn’t affect those with parachute payments, or those with small crowds, anywhere near as much as it affected us.

If you have big mortgage payments, but a steady high revenue stream that services that debt (until a force majeure wipes it out), it’s not necessarily reckless. Going into admin is the result of not being able to service the debt. But the twelve point deduction for it is a judgement on whether reckless management caused the admin. The administrator’s statement that we could have traded through if we’d had those gate receipts is making the case that high debt commitment wasn’t reckless if you had a reasonable assumption of £20m coming in to pay it.

    Jourdan, you sound quite cynical.
You could be 100% right. Rooney could turn out to be a complete con.
But I would rather be an idiot and believe it all. Just because I find it unhealthy to be so cynical about everything. If newspapers were about all the good things that happen in the world then I'd read one.
Believing Rooney is speaking from the heart gives me great encouragement and positivity. Ultimately it doesn't even matter if it was a PR stunt because it's worked on a lot of people.
The alternative is rolling my eyes and thinking he's just another mercenary that will look after #1. Then I'm left feeling miserable. My chance to feel happy comes when? When proven right and Derby fall even further into despair? Nope, there's no chance of happiness then.
I said enjoy the good times under Mac, some people moaned and missed that chance. Are they happier now?
I would advise anybody to be gullible sometimes . To be naive sometimes. If it brings you happiness and doesn't leave you any more vulnerable than being cynical then what harm can it do?
I mean, at the end of the day he might be sincere and you've robbed yourself of the chance to feel positive and rejuvenated.
As for results proving anything? I guess it depends what you consider a good result in this mess. Promotion would be a good result but we have to be realistic about our capabilities and if more deductions come then finishing with 35 points could be a result!

Can’t believe Rooney hasn’t walked away. The man is a fighter. He doesn’t need the money. He could get a well paid job elsewhere in any case as a coach or manager or in the media. He could also put his boots on and play MLS or somewhere. He’s choosing to fight at Derby. Have to give him respect for that.

I’m glad you don’t do the team talks ?
Seriously though, I know it’s the hope that kills you but, until the rather large lady starts singing there is always a chance. We need to move up a few gears (I’m not sure we’re capable but you never know) but, the team that finished 9th last season (one place above Boro coincidentally) would have survived a 21 point deduction. Plus, you never know if any other teams will suffer points deductions this year.

My expectations are low but, whilst there is a remote chance, we don’t have to accept it but need to keep battling. COYR

I have defended Mel Morris simply on the grounds that 95% of what has been going on has been hidden from us as fans.
It’s super easy to criticise people when you don’t have all the facts to hand.
I thought a personal investment of £200 million to try and get us back in the top flight deserved a bit of leeway.
I also found people doubting his fandom a bit pathetic to be honest.
He’s run this club poorly, but spending big bucks on players, offering high wages and moving on from managers who have big contracts is not the sign on a man who doesn’t desperately want success for his club.
For those of you who remember Maxwell, that was far worse in certain respects because he didn’t give a rats ass about Derby. Tthough time softens the memory and we always think the problems we’re experiencing now have never been so bad.
Nobody gets caught in a violent thunderstorm and goes home saying, that was the 7th worst thunderstorm I’ve ever experienced, it’s always the worst.
So I was prepared to sit on my hands and wait.
But his treatment of Rooney and the fact he never told him about administration means my fence-sitting days are over because that was despicable and I’m happy he’s effectively gone.

Having said that, I really hope Derby fans don’t hate on the guy. No matter how badly he’s handled this, I have no doubt his intentions were good for the club and the city. He was just not very good at running a football club and then couldn’t manage failure.
I’m not worried about going down and I hope if/when we do Rooney stays and we build some stability around a good crop of youngsters. And obviously, we take the red dogs with us.
As has been said before, to those of you not old enough to remember, we had a LOT of fun in the old third division days under Arfa.
Wolves went through administration and have done ok and Leicester seemed to have struggled on.
It seems all doom and gloom, but this will build a siege mentality with the club and us fans and we could end up thinking it was a good thing to start afresh.

The reality of the situation is that Mel still owns the stadium and the club owes him a lot of money, which according to the Administrator's press conference, he's not asking for back.

Like it or not, it's important that some level of goodwill is maintained on all sides. If you think I'm making excuses for Mel just look at my previous posts. I'm not, but all that matters now is the survival of the club, unless you want to be watching AFC Derby vs Heanor Town next season.

I wanted to start this thread to formally apologise to Wayne Rooney. I have been one of those who has criticised Rooney heavily and wanted him gone before all this mess came out, mainly during the horrible winless run last season. I now hold my hands up and admit I was wrong and badly so. Over the past few months, and particularly so during the last week, I am increadibly proud to have this man as manager of DCFC, even more so after today's press conference and that the dire state of the club is now revealed to us all. I now honestly think there is no better man to lead us through these dire times brought on by the IDIOT Mel.
Once again, my apologies to Wayne, and thank you for staying on during this mess. Thanks for your honesty towards the fans. Thanks for your commitment. You made me proud to be a DCFC fan today.

If you were a Rooney "out-er" and now wish to atone for your sins, let it all out!

TBH not really sure, could have been the season before or the season after. I would have been 6 or 7 at the time so forgive me for not being 100% certain. The point I was trying to make was regardless of whether we were winning the league or Cloughie & Longston were at each other’s throats at that age you are unaware of the politics or the highs & lows in the great scheme of things. The one-off occasion & the event are what captivates you.

I've tried so hard to get Mr Miggins to come and see a game but he won't and you have perfectly encapsulated the reasons why he has fallen out of love with game. Like @angieram he believes that football has been broken and at the top end it is no longer a sport but an industry. If you are one of the 8 top teams in the premiership then you are fine, any lower down and to hell with you. As long as the cash cows of the premier league are bringing in huge amounts of money the plight of teams desperately trying to improve their position and survive in lower leagues is of little or no interest or concern. It stinks and as you say, @Gisby it needs much stricter regulation to make sure that every team in the league is looked after and the truth is that it won't happen. A broken game indeed.

Turkeys will never vote for Xmas I’m afraid. It’s been said before but until some external body steps in, takes control & regulates this  industry (it is not a sport any more) then those with a vested interest will continue to look after themselves and to hell with everyone else. Football is no longer the game I grew up loving, DCFC is in my blood so I can’t let go but in general what has become of the game disgusts me.

The figures bandied about say Derby in 50 million of debt , ive stood by Morris for a long time ,taking his word that he would stand by the club and city that he loved but recently have tempered that with the knowledge that the time was coming when we would find out if he was the real deal or just a fake full of bluster and empty words ,
that time is here , putting the club into admin is dooming us to relegation and very very possibly liquidation and does not get Morris any money back he MAY have lost ( let’s see how this now pans out loans ,gifted wise )
you love the club and the city and it’s people you bite the bullet and  pay the debts or a huge chunk of them and find a buyer ,you then walk away still a very very very rich man , the choice between that and absolutely ducking the club ,the city and its fans and people over is the difference between walking away slightly less very very very rich than you might otherwise be but with honour and head held high,
the interview and recent action s point very much to a man with not a jot of care for the club , the city ,it’s fans and it’s people ,the little people being shafted , same old bloody sorry story
