Grealish extraordinary in an ordinary Villa team, ordinary in an extraordinary City team. £100m?? No thanks. Foden, in a different league.

There is still a massive amount of information not in the public domain. I think a post mortem of Mel’s tenure should not be started until the new owners are in place. Perhaps then we will have the full story, and be able to comment factually on how he has performed.

Think it might be a tactic straight out of Sir Alex’s book of dark arts. He will take a punishment but puts a bit of pressure on the refs for future close decisions, makes the fans put more pressure on and hopefully gets to have a meeting with the refereeing body.
Not everyone’s cup of tea I’m sure, but especially in our current predicament then I’m all for it to be honest.

? I do get very serious about certain  things. It’s the way I am made. Things like this get my goat and I turn full on grumpy old goat. ?
In the end the EFL is a democratic body elected by its members and supposed to represent its electorate in a just manner.
The best recognised democratic process always has 3 key elements
    Legislature
    Executive
    Judiciary
The legislature is the EFL: it’s electorate .. it’s members……  It makes the laws on their behalf.
The executive enforces the laws .. it’s the police … or officers appointed by the executive with suitable terms of reference.
The judiciary  becomes involved when laws(rules) are breached
It is an absolute fundamental that the legislature and the executive do not meddle with, put pressure on or interfere with the judiciary …That is the way to a failed state, government tapping up judges, leaning on them blah blah  .. By commenting publicly they put tacit pressure on the judiciary .. Offside EFL.  …. If you don’t like the judgment then you should have made different laws that were better put together, less open to interpretation. If the EFL didn’t like a judgment then it’s only action should be to modify the law for the future. That is the only mandate it has….. So, They were “regretful”  or “disappointed” .. in that case the fault lies entirely at their door. The words of the  law were their responsibility. By commenting they simply show that they drew bad laws
Pompous Jono lecture over … (Thank you Norman Ilett my long dead History teacher .. you were a grumpy odd bod but taught with clarity, balance and honesty )

Well how about this , from the Wendies case? EFL's own Counsel saying that EFL didn't want to impose any sanction on Derby for 2019-20 because it wouldnt change the composition of the Championship in that year, ie it wouldn't have relegated us  but it would have relegated Wendies in 2019-20 so they wanted penalty points deduction for us in 2020-1 and for Wedensday they wanted it in 2019-20 in order to relegate them?

I mean this sort of thing just shows that the EFL is trying it on, trying  to cause maximum damage it can.. both to us and to Wednesday.

It is a funadamental problem , and its driven by the fact that the EFL is not an indpendent regulator, but is representing the interests of rival clubs. .

    "Although proceedings of this
nature are private, the Club and Derby County agreed to share information about the
proceedings brought against each other. We say nothing about the appropriateness of
such an arrangement, but the result is that it has become clear from an interchange
between the Chair of the Commission in the Derby County case and Leading Counsel for
the EFL (Mr Mark Phillips QC) that, if the charge against Derby County is established, the
EFL will not be inviting the Disciplinary Commission to impose any points deduction in the
present, extended season. This, according to Mr Phillips, is on the basis that “looking at
the position of Derby in the League at the moment, anything that this Commission does is
unlikely to affect the composition of the Championship next year.” (It is, incidentally, to be
noted that any points deduction that might be imposed on Derby County if the charge is
established would also not have had any impact on that club in terms of relegation if it had
been imposed in the 2018-2019 season.)
    27. Mr De Marco, not unnaturally, draws attention to what he submits is the inconsistency
between the position taken by the EFL in that case and the position taken in this case,
namely, that two clubs facing very similar allegations for a breach of the P&S Rules for
the same period should be treated differently because in one case the outcome could
have no impact on the “composition of the Championship next year”.

Gibson's involvement is the weirdest bit of the whole saga. Not so much that he chose to get involved, more that the EFL allowed him to be quite as central to it all as he appears to be.

The sooner we get an independent regulator that isn't beholden to vested interests, the better.

Well first of all I think Derby (second highest attendance in the Championship in 2019-20) were most affected by covid than any other team (the team with highest attendance Leeds were promoted to Premier League so got access to a new  money tree) . Many other bigger teams were in receipt of parachute money (which did not reduce during covid) so were also much less affected. Smaller teams not affected so much as they were not relying on big gates anyway, so had smaller budgets. Also of course there is the covid loan that (for disputed reasons)  was denied Derby but not most other teams.
secondly, the club was up for sale, and yes that was probably because Morris was running out of money due to historic overspending. But like I say how do we know that a buyer would not have been found if covid had not come along?

But who is to say he wouldn't have sold the club if not for covid? And administration avoided? It is hardly an "excuse", covid has had a devastating affect on revenues and indeed on valuations of players and other assets as well as on the  prospects of selling the club. Anoyone who denies that must have an agenda against Morris.

If we are appealing (I thought we were too late) maybe it’s to keep the EFL honest with the additional points deduction
So we’d drop the appeal and agree 15 points in total
    settle for that

Im not advocating Ashley, or any of the names listed, but all I think is this. The club has a real chance of going bust. Not existing. No Derby county. It is that serious. The club my dad has been a ticket holder for over 45 years and myself 25 plus. I can't comprehend not going with him to watch the club we both love.
For me, at this moment in time all I care about is this club surviving. I couldn't give a rats about Ashley and his time at Newcastle if I am honest, or evans and his time at Ipswich.
If you are starving you don't turn down boiled pasta because you would rather have lobster. You could be dead before anyone does.
The dream ticket will not arrive.
This will not be fixed in a couple of years. This will take 10 years. I think we have to embrace that.

Morality has not existed in football since...?
Can't welcome worker exploiters, leveraged buyouts, gambling companies, property developers, investment bankers, oil men and newspaper owners but get all outraged by Sovereign Wealth funds taking over.
Either they're all wrong or they're all acceptable.
Personally, I find them all equally horrible and long for the day that it either all blows up or fans "seize the means of production" and run all the clubs themselves.
I kind of pity the Newcastle fans - so desperate for success and so fed up of Mike Ashley (who I cannot believe people want here - I'd rather we were liquidated) that they're welcoming the Saudi's with open arms (pun intended). But then again, fair play to them for still being so invested in the shitshow that is top flight football that they care if they win trophies or not.
    Ducking Neoliberalism.

Crew neck or polo t-shirt think would go down a bomb especially under the circumstances and the potential for them to catch on (DCFC solidarity and all that) is enormous. Be amazing to see Pride Park a sea of such colours. Appreciate the nostalgia of a repo of the original and the appeal to the connoisseurs amongst us but it’s a very limited market and it’s not for me I’m afraid. BUT a version for the regulars guys n girls I’d definitely be up for. Doesn’t have to be a money making exercise but if some of the proceeds could go to the club, a local charity or to fund future initiatives even better.

I agree - the ESL could actually save traditional football... the basis of it (only a select few clubs able to compete at the highest level) is pretty much here already given the structure and revenues of the PL and EFL. European soccer (and its beginning with the Prem) is trending towards US sports with a top division that never changes, and feeder clubs from below. This is what the execs from the top PL clubs want as it keeps their revenue streams constant and has very little risk. If it doesn't happen explicitly, it'll continue implicitly, encouraging wealthy benefactors to roll the dice with their club's future.
Small clubs cannot compete at the upper echelons of the PL consistently without a) a large, global fan base (see Man Utd, Liverpool) which generates huge revenues, or b) incredibly wealthy benefactors who want to use it to improve their image (see Man City, Chelsea).
There are so many problems with football today. Transfer fees are a crazy concept, agents fees even more so. TV money drives revenues but is negotiated in a vacuum, with EFL TV negotiations seemingly a take what you're given exercise. Wages are completely skewed at the top of the game and set unrealistic expectations across the rest. Academies strip talent from smaller clubs for a pittance of what those players will be worth in the future. Corruption is rife (see UEFA, FIFA, match fixing... and you don't think it happens at the smaller less public bodies????). Local fans in the stadium are no longer the most important thing big club owners need to look after. Its those who sit in front of tellies from across the Atlantic who have a fantasy team to manage.
