Oldben reacted to hintonsboots in v Peterborough (A) Match Day Thread
I think another poster commented in the week, the EFL are going for relegation by stealth. No manager can really succeed with this squad.

What do you think Roy? His Mum’s recipe for Moussaka. His schooldays scrapbooks. It’s obvious what Footymum is referring too. Not sure why she is getting so much stick on here of late.

Oldben reacted to Anag Ram in Kamil Grosicki - signed for Pogon Szczecin
We are still restricted to looking at potential goal makers but I've seen nothing (other than the unlikely Delap link) that suggests we will find an answer to our goalscoring problems.
CKR is a battler not a natural goalscorer.
We have little else.
Our midfield is defensive and below average for the division.
Morrison is creative and might net a few but I can't see anyone breaking double figures.
And we still need another CB.

So Mel wants an academy team and Wayne wants Dad's Army.
Like a mixed boys and dads team.

This gets better…..making a profit on Joswiak and getting Grosiki in on a free capped until the end of the season and restricted wages meaning we don’t get stuck with a large contract. I’m loving our EFL imposed restrictions…..it’s making us so much better in the transfer market ???

Oldben reacted to Nuwtfly in Poll: Do we fans need a 'pound of flesh' from Mel?
Like 99% of people on here, I don’t know whether he’s “doing his best” or whether he is the main factor in the club not being sold. It’s guesswork.
All I can judge him by is the state that the club (which he owns and is ultimately responsible for) is in. And it is in the absolute doldrums.

Oldben reacted to Bris Vegas in Poll: Do we fans need a 'pound of flesh' from Mel?
Mel has been terrible at running this football club during his tenure, but he hasn’t done it purposely or with clear intentions to cause harm.
He certainly isn’t in the realm of Glazers, Oystons, 3 Amigos territory.
I don’t understand what could be gained from abusing (or booing) him. He isn’t a charlatan or he hasn’t been peforming a scandal. He must be well aware of how bad his tenure has been, and he is actively looking to sell.

Oldben reacted to jimbobram in Poll: Do we fans need a 'pound of flesh' from Mel?
Mel's intensions for the club were for the best and he's pumped poo loads into it. I don't feel negative towards him and he's been trying to sell for a while now. I wish we found a buyer and could just thank him for his efforts but the longer this situation goes on the more his rep is being ruined.

Oldben reacted to Ellafella in Captain Tom Lawrence
Absolutely. There are several others who are so much more obvious choices: Curtis D, Shinnie, CKR.
Sometimes giving somebody an aspirational challenge can be just the tonic they need to "flick" the psychological switch and become a leader. I'm pretty certain that others in the camp will be offering TL the advice that he needs. As Mckram says, it prompts a few observational questions of TL:
1. Will he be a vocal and demonstrative leader on the pitch? I think he needs to show that.
2. Will his self-discipline and attitude towards being "baited" by opposition "wums" improve. That needs to happen.
3. Will his personal contribution to our attacking dept increase? It needs to. He tends to be a "1 in 4" player ie 1 good performance, and 3 very mediocre ones {he was virtually invisible v Notts Co at the weekend, gave 2 very sloppy balls away} and then scored the penalty {which some criticised him for, given its style}.
He certainly needs media training. His tone of voice, eye-contact, speech pattern and speech volume need work; and his body language on and of the pitch suggest a young man who keeps his problems inside and they weigh his shoulders down. So, he really ought to get some help with this.
Also, it is a gamble by Wazza. If 2 (above) doesn't happen, then Wazza must be prepared to re-think. But reversing the decision at some point in the future could be very counter-productive...egg on face, doubts about Wazza's judgement underlined, impact on TL himself.
Myself, I would not have done this, but if it comes off and TL thrives, scores more and inspires the Team to unexpected glory, Wazza will look like a very astute motivator. Very interested to see how this develops then...

Premier league statement on integrity ...
"Integrity
We expect all Premier League Personnel to conduct themselves with integrity and in a manner that reflects positively on the image of the Premier League and football in general. We expect all Premier League Personnel to be reliable, professional, honest and trustworthy both in dealings with each other and third parties. This guiding principle informs the others that follow, and encompasses all aspects of our activities."
Should Rooney be expected to conduct himself with integrity to avoid tarnishing the name of the club.
He is rumoured to be earning 90k per week, circa 4.7 million a year.
Largely paid for by fans paying for merchandise and tickets.
I note that at present it's not confirmed if the latest news about Rooney is accurate, reliable or upto date.

Stress is not only found in sports performance, but across many aspects of life; however in football management, stress refers to the relationship between an individual and the environmental demands that are associated with the individual’s football management performance. The football manager and the environmental demands should be balanced in order for the football manager to perform at their optimum level, otherwise there could be negative effects on the football managers performance.
In respect to Rooney, how good was his performance last season, when a number of stress factors effected his ability to see Derby perform at their optimum.
The primary reason for Derbys performance last season was probably not Rooneys ability to handle stress, but did it play a part.
Do we need a manager who is at optimum performance for the season ahead.

Oldben got a reaction from Chris_Martin in George Edmundson - signed for Ipswich
As Ipswich looks to sign edmundson, Derby remind that efl have prevented then being competitive.
Derby can't sign decent players since although efl have allowed them to sign 4 players because derbys squad is to weak, they can only sign these players if they pay less than competitive salaries.
Rooney said he's struggling to field a team in the championship this season with so few senior players.
Derby currently only has nine registered senior players, two of whom are goalkeepers.

Oldben reacted to MackworthRamIsGod in Summary of players who have signed ...
Mental to see the players who have left and the EFL will allow us to bring 4 in ?
Honestly we may as well ask the EFL to relegate us now and wipe the slate clean and let us have a go at it in league 1, at least we will be 1 year ahead in the inevitable rebuild.

Oldben got a reaction from jimtastic56 in Choose your 5
Jaglieka is too old.
Aluko is a reading cast of for good reason.
Morrison is BIG risk, so many clubs where he's failed.
These are players we would not approach under ordinary circumstances or else you are saying if the club had money it would be looking at players that no other championship clubs are looking at.
-
Oldben reacted to Jourdan in Choose your 5
We are 2.5 weeks away, yes. But this is still something we should take our time over.
We have got recruitment very wrong in the past. How is that going to change if we hand out contracts with little to no vision beyond ‘get some bodies in’?
I get it - the fans want signings, the coaching staff want signings. But surely with the restrictions in place, it shows a need to operate more carefully and make informed choices.
Personally I don’t think it makes sense to rush deals over the line. There’s no point in getting bodies in for the sake of it when we are likely to regret it 3-4 weeks down the line.
-
Oldben reacted to Jourdan in Choose your 5
It’s blind panic because these are obviously not signings we have had lined up for months on end.
Do you think we would have approached Morrison and co. in ordinary circumstances?
For me, it seems we are just reacting to how the dominoes have fallen and there’s an air of desperation about it.
Also a player can look good in training but perform differently in matches, so it’s not necessarily a strong indication of what we can expect. Especially when you think of players who might just turn it on to get a contract and then revert to type.

You are living in a fantasy land if you think that Marshall/Roos, Fozzy, Davis, CKR, Jowviak and Lawrence are top 6 players.

You would think Derby would make some money on kit sales. This will not help.
Fanbanter rates championship team kits, no wonder we ranked so low.
