  1. As a handful of people have mentioned it, here's a summary of the mental health coping tips we provided (via a wellbeing expert) at the end of this podcast:

    1) ???'? ?? ???????.

There are people who may not share your passion for football or the club, but that doesn't matter. Football compares to any film, play or music for its emotional pull. Derby County makes our lives richer, that's the important thing.

    2) ???? ??? ??? ??? ????????? ?? ????????? ???

Amid the swirl, not being able to pinpoint what's driving your worst fears only makes it worse. The matchday routine? Our history? Work our what's driving your anxiety, so you can rationalise it.

    3) ?? ?????? ??'?? ??????? ?????????????

Our squad was vastly different a year ago... and it'll be vastly different next year. The cycle of our team has shortened, yet the takeover has gone on forever. Everything and nothing are happening at once.

    4) ????-?????????

Knowing your personality and how you've been affected is key. Are you drinking more? Snapping at people? Lost energy? If you're unsure, ask friends, family, colleagues for insight.

    5) ???? ????? ???? ??? ???? ??

When you're down is the worst time to stop doing this. You might need to push yourself, but it'll work. Anxious? Think what you can do right now (deep breathes), this weekend (a long walk), or long term (chat to your GP).

    6) ??????? ?????? ??? ????????????

Mental health conversations are difficult, especially starting one. But every honest description of how you're feeling makes future ones easier. People you like, love and respect aren't immune from this either.

    7) ?? ????????? ??? ??????

When we're down, we're more likely to snap at loved ones. Try reaching out to an old friend, offer an olive branch, send someone a compliment, it doesn't matter. The act of making someone else feel better will make you feel better.

    ? ?????? ?????? ?? ????? ? '?????'

Mental health resources are everywhere now... but many older #dcfcfans grew up at a time where 'mental health' = straightjackets. Be aware that some people might need coaxing to talk, because it can still strike fear.

    9) ?????!

Sleep affects everything, and is affected by everything. Do whatever you can to sleep better. Avoid late night screentime (not easy with those 10pm statements!). Reading a book while reclined is still the best sleep inducer there is.

    10) ???? ?????

Look what we've been through. A betrayed fanbase. Possible liquidation... and yet the team won't give up. Fans have shown humour, passion, dignity. No one can take away this once-in-a-generation pride. We're Derby County, we'll fight to the end.

  2. Hey all, our new podcast is out now:

    SBW128_TWITTER.thumb.jpg.8d0657537c92fea1cf432d868dc1bef9.jpg

The games are running out for Derby County in their improbably quest to avoid relegation, and disheartening defeats against Millwall and Luton havn't helped the Rams' survival cause.

Chris, RIchard and Tom are joined by pod newbie Jimmy McLoughlin to assess Derby's last three performances, with one fundamental question in mind - will we stay up? We've also got 'Your Shout' on whether listeners think Derby will pull off the miracle. (Spoiler: 'No')

Alongside the analysis of Luton, Millwall and Peterborough, there's discussion on Derby's latest defensive starlet, Eiran Cashin. Have we been pleasantly surprised by his emergence into the first team and his apparently composure in slotting into the back line?

Inevitably, there's some more takeover chat - with a make-or-break week approaching, could some positives preferred bidder news kickstart Derby's survival bid... or, conversely, will securing our long term future hamper the Rams' 'siege mentality' in Mission Impossible?

Also in Episode 128, we pass on some helpful pointers on maintaining your mental health during Derby County's crisis season, courtesy of wellbeing expert (and Rams fan) Matt Reed.

  3. Hey all, our new podcast is out now:

Is the nightmare finally coming to an end? A key breakthrough off the pitch means Derby County may survive beyond the season - and the Rams are still hanging in there on the pitch too. Chris, Richard and Anton look back on a damaging, but not dispiriting defeat at Middlesbrough, assess Festy Ebosele's game and how he may need to adapt as one of the Championship's quickest players, and wonder - what is the magic points total which would see Derby County survive?

Onward Krystian's soldiers! As a truly spectacular finish sees Derby rescue a 2-2 draw with Birmingham in the dying seconds, Chris, Richard, Tom and guest podder James Windle assess Bielik's fairytale return* (injury pending), the raw emotion of the pre-match march to Pride Park and where next as the Rams enter the endgame of their existential death spiral.

Is February 2022 the most important month in the club's history? How do fellow Rams feel about the possibility of Derby ceasing to exist... and what's it like recording a podcast in the back of Richard's Tesla? It's all in this episode.

  5. Hey all, our latest podcast is out now:

In another emotionally draining week which leaves Derby County again staring into the abyss, Wayne Rooney's players responded the only way they know how - with buckets of commitment, energy and defiance. Richard, Tom and Anton react to the superb 2-0 win over Sheffield United, featuring two of the best goals ever seen at Pride Park.

There is, of course, also analysis of the latest off-field body blows which see the Rams' administration and EFL interference threatening the club's very existence. Is it now Mike Ashley to the rescue for our 'crisis club'? How many of Derby's young stars will be sacrificed in upcoming 'fire sale'. and who would we be most upset to see leave?

  6. Hey all - our final podcast of 2021 is out now, recording minutes after the final whistle against Stoke.....

What a way to end 2021! As Rams fans are given a glimmer of hope thanks to three consecutive wins to end the year, Chris and Richard are joined by Ollie Wright (Derby County Blog) to revel in the victories which see Derby cross the psychological barrier of double figures.

There's praise for the returning CKR ('He's back!'), much-needed contributions from Ravel Morrison and Kamil Jozwiak, and general admiration for the fight shown from Wayne Rooney's players in the face of ultimate adversity. Is survival now an actual possibility... and would it constitute the one of the greatest achievements in English football?

Chris, Richard and Ollie also assess Chris Kirchner stepping away as a potential owner of the club, and the 'naked opportunism' of compensation claims by Middlesbrough and Wycombe's owners.

Thanks for listening and for your support this year!

    Chris

  7. Hi all - our latest podcast is out now:

Two excellent results against the best teams in the Championship give Derby fans a glimmer of hope... before QPR spoil the positivity party with a late winner at Pride Park, as that gap to safety just keeps getting bigger.
Chris, Tom and Anton sigh in disbelief at more points dropped from winning positions and kick themselves for having survival hope in the first place, as we also analyse the wonderful first team emergence of Liam Thompson into the Derby County midfield.
Wayne Rooney has also just marked a year in charge of Derby, so we take 'Your Shouts' on the boss's best and worst moments in his first 12 months in as Rams boss.

  8. Evening all

We've had a 20-minute conversation this afternoon with Derby's administrators Quantuma, which is out now as a podcast.

Chris spoke at length to Quantuma CEO Carl Jackson to get an update on Derby County's administration process and the quest to find new buyers for the club.

In their first non-club interview since Derby's -21 points deduction was confirmed, we discussed a number of key issues with the administrators, including how Derby's process has been compared to other companies they deal with (2:06), which interested party is furthest along in the takeover process (9:06), how likely it is that Derby may have to sell players in January (14:55), and how they feel about fans' fears of the club being liquidated (18:48).

There are a few nuggets in there (ie, Quantuma were contacted by a new potential bidder as recently as this morning) but some issues which clearly Carl Jackson can't get drawn on in detail.

Anyway - hope you find it interesting.

    Cheers
    Chris

  9. Hi all - some extra international break listening from us, should you fancy it

Few players had as big an impact on the modern fortunes of Derby County as Igor Stimac. As international star at his peak when he joined the Rams in 1995, Igor's capture and the subsequent 20-game unbeaten run rocketed Derby up the league and on to eventual promotion to the Premier League.

In this in-depth chat about his four years at Pride Park, author Ryan Hills ('Pride') talks to Igor about the tactical change he made with Jim Smith which was the catalyst for promotion, persuading Aljosa Asanovic to join the following summer, the move from the Baseball Ground to Pride Park, and the reasons behind his eventual departure for West Ham in 1999.

A must-listen for all fans given Igor's status as one of our best ever foreign signings, we're delighted to bring you this exclusive interview with a Derby County great.

This podcast is out now on our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/stevebloomerswashing

Here's a little clip as a teaser, about the moment Igor was asked when he was unveiled (when Derby were 17th), what are the aims for that season?

  10. Hey all

Our latest Patreon podcast is an exclusive in-depth technical chat with Curtis Davies on the art of being a central defender. We spoke at length with Curtis on subjects such as:

    - Playing direct vs playing from the back and why Derby will continue to try to play out
    - On being 'the Bonucci and Chiellini of the Championship' with Phil Jagielka and why the partnership has worked (so far)
    - Switching defensive partners, playing three at the back, and the lines of communication with goalkeepers
    - The 'nightmare' 'unplayable' strikers he's faced in his career... and which striker was best at 'the dark arts'.
    - What's next for him - playing for Derby in League One, signing a new deal, his plans for the future.

  11. As the post-points deduction era begins for Derby, Chris, Tom and Anton look back on a positive four points picked up from home games against Reading and Swansea which saw the Rams climb out of a negative points total.

With both Kelle Roos and Ryan Allsop showing encouraging form between the sticks, who should keep the No.1 shirt for the Rams? Have Derby been slightly fortunate to go unbeaten (so far) at home this season?

We're also joined by Paul Harris, Managing Director of Derby Brewing Company, to talk to us about their initiative of creating a Derby County beer to raise funds for the club - and how fans can get involved.

  12. Just to update everyone on what's happening next with this idea....

We had Paul Harris from DBC on our most recent podcast last night (out later this week), who's explained that they're going to try to whittle down all the suggestions (approximately 300....!) to a shortlist of around 4, and then we're going to put these out for a vote and take it from there.

  13. Hey all. We recorded an emergency podcast in the wake of Friday's news, and it's out now:

In a podcast we never thought we'd do, Chris, Richard and Tom react to the devastating news that Derby County are entering administration and will plummet to the bottom of the Championship following a 12 point deduction. How terminal will the situation become for our proud club, an institution of English football, and where do we go from here?

    • THE STATEMENT: Our emotions from Friday night, and how close we believe Derby currently are to liquidation.
    • MEL MORRIS: How did a self-proclaimed 'lifelong fan' allow this to happen? We assess how a local businessman worth hundreds of millions took Derby County to the brink.
    • STOKE: We won a game...! Amidst the chaos, Derby actually earned a rare three points. How has our relationship with the club and matchday changed now that results are basically irrelevant this season?

To summarise one of our closing lines from this episode:

As long as there's a Derby County to talk about, we'll talk about it. Whether it's League One, League Two, or a pheonix club at the bottom of the pyramid. We're Derby now, and we always will be.

  14. Morning all,

We've got a new podcast out - as Jamie Ward joined us to relive the glorious 'Ten men' victory over Forest, which took place ten years ago today.

A decade ago today, the Rams pulled off one of their most memorable wins at the City Ground from a goal down... after playing almost the entire game a man down. The famous 2011 win at arch rivals Forest, now known as 'The Ten Men game', will live long in the memory for Derby fans - so we decided to relive that glorious 2-1 win.

Goalscorer Jamie Ward joins Chris and Richard to talk about his controversial equaliser, giving stick to the Forest fans in celebration, how it ranks in career highlights, and what it felt like when Jeff Hendrick curled in the winner.

    - Birmingham: Should we abandon playing out from the back?
    - Centre back pairings: How do Jags and Curt compare to our favourite Derby defensive duos?
    - Which Derby player would look best at the Met Gala? (Yes, really).

Our latest podcast is out now, recorded after the 1-1 draw against Forest:

Chris, Richard and Tom assess a positive start to Derby's season, despite multiple dropped points already - the latest coming against Nottingham Forest. Why are Derby failing once again to kill games off?

There's also chat on the Rams' missed penalty shouts against their local rivals - how many spot kicks should Derby have had against Forest? We also look at the contributions of the new boys - who has impressed most out of Sam Baldock, Phi Jagielka and Ravel Morrison?

Naturally there's also our obligatory quiz action in the pod too, and 'Your Shout' on the East Midlands Derby.
