  1. Hey all,

    Our podcast has returned! 🎉

    https://traffic.megaphone.fm/COMG8764076565.mp3?updated=1689680792

(Also available on Spotify, Apple, or wherever you get your pods)

In our pre-season special, we discuss:
    - The SEVEN new signings: We dug around on opposition forums to see how rival fans reacted to Derby signing their players, and asked which one is likely to have the biggest impact.
    - The promotion race: Do we really have 'no excuses' this season? We assess the rest of the division, in what looks like a particularly weak League One.
    - The departures: Was the £2m we got for Jason Knight 'good business'? And then there's Didzy....
    - YOUR SHOUT: What items would you put in a Derby County museum? (Wrong answers only)

  2. Only just seen this as I got locked out of my account when I forgot my password. 🙈

All this feedback is really kind - I've passed it onto the lads and we really appreciate it.

Genuinely makes a difference to us, especially in our 7th season, having covered 2 failed playoff campaigns, a relegation and an administration.

We'll get to pod about a promotion.... one day.  🤞

    Chris

  3. Hey all

With the dust having settled on the season (a few weeks ago, actually), we've dished out some 'alternative' awards as we look back on the campaign, including:
    - The Foot Like A Traction Engine™️ Best Screamer award
    - Biggest underachiever in the Derby squad
    - Best limbs/general away day scenes
    - Unsung hero of the Derby squad
    - The Stuart Attwell Award For Worst Officiating Incompetence

Some hotly contested categories in there....!

There's a shortened, taster version of this pod out now everywhere.....

And you can hear the whole episode over on our Patreon....

  4. Hey everyone - our last regular podcast of the season is out now....

It wasn't to be. After a memorable campaign which featuted 21 wins and 67 goals, Derby County fall just short in their League One promotion quest as the Rams drop to 7th on the last day of the season. A disappointed Chris and Blake are joined by Hilary Leam (Chair of RamsTrust) in assessing what went wrong at Hillsborough, and how the final day defeat was symbolic of the whole season.

The SBW panel also discuss the future of the club, which Rams we'd be most disappointed to leave in the summer, and our overall favourite memories from 2022/23.

Thanks a lot to all forumers who've listened to SBW this season - much appreciated. We'll be back once again 2023/24.

  5. Cutch, Tom and Anton review back-to-back wins and a five game unbeaten 'mini run' that has put the Rams back into sixth spot and in control of their play off destiny.

They also assess David McGoldrick's latest scoring streak, how Paul Warne's new 3-4-3 has got Derby playing and the various permutations in the League One promotion race.

  6. Hi all

We went up to Moor Farm last week and had an exclusive sit-down chat with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing for the podcast.

    NML told us about:
    - His favourite moment in a Rams shirt and why Port Vale was up there with the best feeling of his career.
    - Playing for Paul Warne - the tactics, how he adapts to defenders doubling-up on him, what he's told in training.
    - His journey in football: Playing in the 'cages' of Birmingham until he joined at academy at 14.
    - How he nearly considered quitting the game during his cocaine ban at Cardiff, before 'falling in love with football again' at Derby.
    - 'That' song....

There's a free 'taster' version which we've released today....

And you can listen to the full 30 minute interview (as well as our video tour of Moor Farm and the video interview) over on our Patreon:

Don't be sad it's over, just be glad it happened. Derby's unbeaten league run stretching back to October finally ends, as the Rams are edged out in a five-goal thriller by Wycombe Wanderers. Richard and Blake are joined by the Derby Telegraph's Leigh Curtis to assess how Warne's side were seemingly outfought by a managerial 'masterclass' in Buckinghamshire, as automatic promotion hopes are dealt a blow.

The SBW panel also discuss why the Rams seemingly score so few from set pieces, and ask if we'll ever see Krsytian Bielik ever wear the black and white again, following his goalscoring exploits for loan club Birmingham City this weekend.

  8. NEW PODCAST here:

In our 150th episode, Chris chats to Spanish Rams fan Fernando Batallon, who had his first ever trip to Pride Park for the thrashing of Morecambe, having decided to support Derby in 2019 after playing as them in FIFA Career Mode.

Fernando, who travelled to England for the first time with his six cousins from Lugo, northern Spain, explains why they chose Derby in the first place, what they made of Pride Park... and when they're planning their next trip to the East Midlands.

Have CD Lugo got any decent players we should be looking at ? They could do a scouting report of the Spanish Segunda for us?

They're second bottom of the Spanish second tier, just above Ibiza FC... so probably unlikely.

    Worth an ask though!

  10. We're getting Fernando on the podcast on Tuesday to hear in full how their first ever trip to Derby went.

The background is - they DMed me in December saying they were going to the Morecambe game, and asked about how/when to get tickets.

I kept in touch with them and advised them on a couple of pubs to drink in... and then tweeted about it yesterday. Didn't expect it to get the response it did!

  11. Hey everyone - it's that time again, we've got a new podcast out.....

    SBW149.thumb.jpg.6b38153cf617fc2bee81c8dc0c048422.jpg

Derby's hopes of going 20 unbeaten in all comps* (*not including penalties...) are dealt a Hammer blow as West Ham ease to a 2-0 victory at Pride Park. Chris and Richard are joined by pod newcomer Blake Fallows to assess the FA Cup defeat and Warne's apparent prioritisation of league over cup.

We also relive the spectacular away win at Port Vale, analyse Derby's new deadline day arrival Harvey White, and reflect on the Jan 2022 march to Pride Park, a year on.

  12. Hey everyone

It's that time again - we've got a new podcast out......

A jubilant Chris, Anton and Ollie (Derby County Blog) celebrate the Rams' fourth league win on the bounce, as Derby see off fellow playoff chasers Bolton with two two great goals from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Conor Hourihane.

We assess the two goalscorers' fine run of form, Max Bird's screamer against Cheltenham... and whether the top two in League One can still be caught.

And here's a little snippet of our last episode - discussion on NML

  13.

Back-to-back convincing home victories see Warne's Rams start 2023 as they ended 2022... unbeaten and tight at the back. The latest impressive outing sent Derby into the FA Cup Fourth Round - how much of a chance do we now have against Premier League West Ham when they're in town later this month?

Chris, Tom and Anton also dish out some long overdue praise for Tom Barkhuizen, off the back of his three goals in two games, and herald the goalscoring return of Jason Knight. How long will the unbeaten run last... and are unbeaten runs always a good thing in the first place

  14. That's fair - appreciate there's a lot of people who see Gibson and Couhig as more 'villainous' than MM.

We did mention the two of them in the full Patreon episode... I guess for some it's the point that it was ultimately MM's decision to put us into admin. Also his naivity in falling for Alonso, Sheikh Khaled and Kirchner etc.

Excuse the slow reply.... New Year etc got in the way. Thank you for listening and appreciate the feedback!

  15. Hey all - our Year in Review podcast is out now:

In a year unlikely to ever be repeated for the Rams, there were plenty of highs and desperate lows, as the club's very existence came into question before eventual salvation. Chris, Tom and Richard look back on the last 12 months and pick out our favourite on-field moments, before assessing Paul Warne's three months in charge so far, and lamenting the departure of the players we miss most.

There's also a round-up of the most significant moments from Derby's year, as told by us on the podcast, and a look forward to 2023 - with some bold predictions - as the Rams rebuild continues.

Thanks to all from the forum who've listened to us and supported the pod in 2022 - we'll be back in 2023.

    COYR!
    Chris

  16. Hey all, our new pod is out now

Two very contrasting draws see Derby's unbeaten run extend into double figures... but the Rams are still outside that magical top six after dropping points at Burton Albion. Chris and Richard are joined by Ollie Wright to look back on the two most recent results. We also assess the criticism which Conor Hourihane has found himself under from some quarters - as well as Lewis Dobbin following his big miss at Burton - and ask how Paul Warne may re-shape his squad in January... or if he even can.

  17. Hey all, our new podcast is out now:

Chris, Richard and Tom return as Derby navigate a tricky tie at serial upset specialists Newport County to book their place in the FA Cup Third Round Proper. A match-winning contribution from Louie Sibley has us wondering, once again, where he fits into Warne's Derby side, while an eighth game unbeaten (in 90 minutes) fuels winter optimism.

Who has been Derby's player of the season so far? We make cases for the three main contenders, talk spectacular volleys and Welsh away days from yore in the latest episode.
