  1. Hey all - our new podcast is out now:

The Rams make it six unbeaten in all competitions with a 3-1 victory away at MK Dons and Richard and Anton are joined by Chris Smith, also known as @cspaceram, to dissect a busy week of Derby County action.

Did Jake Rooney step up on his league debut to give Paul Warne another reliable centre-back option and can Derby take inspiration from their Anfield performance into tough league games on the horizon?

  2. Hi all - as the Rams aren't in action today, I wanted to take the change to point you all towards our latest Patreon episode.

We welcomed Bryso back on to the pod for an honest chat about what it's like to retire from football after nearly 20 years as a pro.

What happens when footballers retire? They're worshipped as players, but after hanging up their boots, life still goes on. Chris caught up with Rams legend Craig Bryson to discuss his feelings on giving up the game, what comes next and whether he'll look to stay in football.

You can listen to the full episode - and help support the pod if you like what we do - by becoming an SBW Patron here:

  3. Hey all, our new podcast is out now:

    1686024569_ezgif.com-gif-maker(4).thumb.gif.d432e0d1531e35c0c635af95f0541206.gif

An incredible first half sees Paul Warne earn his first Pride Park win, as David McGoldrick's hattrick inspires the Rams to a 4-2 victory over in-form Bristol Rovers. With disappointing results against Ipswich and Exeter, the convincing three points will quieten early critics of the new manager's style and help keep Derby on the tails of the early season pace-setters.

Richard, Anton and Tom break down Didzy's historic treble (the first of his career), and also assess whether the victory means Derby should stick with 4-4-2 rather than Warne's preferred 3-5-2 shape.

  4. Hey all, our new SBW podcast is out now:

A frankly ludicrous three minute spell in Accrington sees Derby survive two penalties before new goalscoring hero Will Osula made the hosts pay at the other end seconds later in the Rams' 3-0 triumph - Paul Warne's second consecutive away win as new boss.

Chris, Richard and Anton try to wrap their heads around *that* astonishing period of play in the first half, hail Prince William and his debut brace, and discuss Derby's striking options with no less than four forwards all gunning for a starting place.

There's analysis too on Derby's style of play under their new management team, and a look at the formative League One table, where the well-placed Rams sit 9th, with games in hand on those around them.

  5. A follow-up on this one to plug our latest Patreon episode - a great interview with BBC Sheffield's Rob Staton, who's known Paul Warne for 20+ years.

Rob gave us some great insight, including:

    - How Warne spoke to Blackburn in the summer but decided not to leave.
    - How David Clowes has wanted Warne ever since taking over the club in July.
    - The dynamic between Warne and his coaches, Richie Barker and Matt Hamshaw.
    - Warne's recruitment at Rotherham and the 'type' of player he goes for.

    Here's a taster:

  6. After an annoyingly long wait, Derby finally have an away goal(s), and an assured 2-0 win over Cambridge to go with it. Chris, Richard, and Tom herald the arrival of 'Warne Ball' by assessing how the Rams got to grips with the new gaffer's style impressively early, James Collins' match-winning brace, and a composed clean sheet for Derby's new-look back three.

There's also analysis of Warne's team shape, the new manager's leadership style and personality... and the welcome return of 'Win, Lose or Schnoor'.

  7. Hey all, our emergency pod is out now:

Here we go again...! Just 12 games into the season, and the Rams are welcoming their 11th new manager in nine years, as Paul Warne leaves Rotherham United to take over at Pride Park. Chris and Richard are joined by Ollie Wright (Derby County Blog) to assess the credentials of the new gaffer, and discuss what's next for the demoted Liam Rosenior.

How will Derby cope with the contrast in playing styles going from possession, passing football to Warne's more direct approach? How much do we really know about the Rams' new boss? And when on earth will we score a goal away from home? There's plenty to discuss in SBW 139.

  8. Hey all, we've just posted a trimmed version of our latest Patreon interview - a chat with MotD commentator and avid Rams fans Martin Fisher

Match of the Day commentator and devoted Derby fan Martin Fisher joined Chris to discuss his broadcasting career, most memorable commentaries and juggling the day job with his love for the Rams.

From run-ins with Gazza and Mourinho to commentating on England at the World Cup and some of Derby's best recent victories, Martin's job in football has seen him cover some huge moments, as he recounts in this fascinating interview, which is a great listen for Derby fans with a love of commentary.

  10. Hey all, our latest SBW podcast is out now:

Goals goals goals! After firing blanks in their last two outings, the Rams smash six past West Brom, Peterborough and Grimsby to progress on all fronts in the league and cups. Sibley starred in two of those results, while Mendez-Laing continues to impress with more goals and assists. Dare Derby fans dream of a trip to Wembley or two at the end of the season?

We look at the latest Transfer Deadline Day and the importance of Max Bird and Jason Knight to Derby's future, discuss *that* glorious Didzy late winner against Posh... and disagree on the greatest Derby goal ever scored at Pride Park in 25 years.

There's also a taster of our latest Patreon bonus podcast - an interview with broadcaster and Match of the Day commentator Martin Fisher, who gave us great insight on his career and love for the Rams.

  11.

Hey everyone, our new podcast is out now:

Derby's early season form sees formidable performances at home, but forgettable ones away, with a third goalless outing on the road. Richard, Anton, and Jamie Page (@DerbyRetweets) assess what's causing the mini goal drought on our travels, when it will end, and whether another team really is 'in for a thrashing' any time soon.

There are also your 'Five Word Reviews', reaction to Liam Rosenior's assessment of the 0-0 draw at Fleetwood, and discussion on the blossoming Barkhuizen/Mendez-Laing partnership. Thanks for listening!

  12. Hey all, new podcast out now:

The League One rollercoaster is in full swing as Derby edge their opener against Oxford before succumbing to Charlton after missing a shedload of chances. Chris, Tom and Anton analyse what went wrong at The Valley, why James Collins isn't scoring (yet), all those sitters, and acceptable points totals for August.

There's discussion too on Liam Rosenior, new boy Lewis Dobbin, and Anton's intriguingly-titled quiz, 'Before or After'.

  13. Hey, we're back for the 22/23 season! Our new podcast is out now....

As the Rams prepare for life in League One, Chris, Richard, Tom and Anton ready themselves for the new Derby County era... and a whole new team. We assess the new signings (well, most of them), pick our best XI based on Derby's current squad, and agree that patience will be needed in the gruelling first few weeks as Rosenior's new-look squad try to gel and play catch-up.

Which of the new boys are we most excited about, and is promotion a realistic target for Derby this season? There's plenty to get our teeth into in our season preview....

  14. It's over! After 285 days in administration, the Rams finally enter a new era as David Clowes' successful takeover is confirmed. A jubilant SBW panel of Chris Parsons, Tom Martin, Jamie Page (@DerbyRetweets) and the Derby Telegraph's Leigh Curtis celebrate the long-awaited news and discuss the club's future under their 'reluctant saviour' new owner.

Is the job of permanent manager now Liam Rosenior's to lose? And what's the general mood ahead of the League One season, now our long term future has been secured?

The Rams' new chapter will begin with a new manager - how will Wayne Rooney's stint in charge be remembered? There's also analysis on the rumoured incomings, including Connor Hourihane and James Chester... and the SBW panel have a few choice words for a certain Mr Kirchner.

I think a lot of London Ram's frequent the Stage Door for games. @Steve Bloomer's Washingwill know for sure!

Good to hear about another Ram in the capital!

Yep, the Stage Door is the place to be for televised Derby games. The London Branch have a relationship with the owners and they always make sure to have our games on. It's a 5-10 min walk from Waterloo/Waterloo East.

Here's a flavour from last season:

The Branch also organise travel to/from games from London (often at a discount).

  16. Hey all, our last regular podcast of 2021/22 is out now:

The 2021/22 campaign comes to a close with an anticlimactic 1-0 home defeat to Cardiff City in front of a grateful, emotional Pride Park crowd... but Derby's future continues to be the elephant in the room as takeover talks stall.

Chris, Richard and Anton take to the pub after full time to discuss Derby's final game, the possible exodus of players in the summer, and the slightly horrifying thought of the Rams having to groundshare in the 2022/23 campaign. We're also joined by some of our fantastic Patrons to look back on their standout moments of the season, and Rams Player of the Year.

We fought to the end... but it wasn't enough. As Derby's relegation to League One is confirmed, Richard and Tom tell Chris about the emotional scenes from the away end at QPR on Easter Monday, as we look forward to a (hopefully) brighter future.

Will Wayne Rooney stay for the long-term Rams 'project'? We assess how Derby's manager has changed in tone, confidence and appearance since first signing as a player in August 2019. From 'Rooney the marquee signing' to 'Rooney the firefighter', will Wayne fancy the challenge of rebuilding in League One?

There's also your Five Word Reviews on Derby facing third tier football... along with some not-at-all patronising trivia about some League One grounds we'll be visiting in 2022/23. Which away day next season is home to England's fourth-steepest street...?

    SBW131_TWITTER.thumb.jpg.2ebc0c82d29089cb2c47027aba6dc527.jpg

Progress! A mightily relieved Chris and Richard are joined by Jimmy McLoughlin as Quantuma finally announce Chris Kirchner as their preferred bidder to take Derby County out of administration.

With Kirchner being very public on his plans for the Rams, Chris, Richard and Jimmy analyse our prospective new owner's social media Q&A, in which he addressed funding, personnel, points deductions and recruitment for Derby County.

There's also analysis of yet another disappointing away day, with Chris recounting his trip to Swansea, as the Rams are beaten for the 8th consecutive league game on the road. Why are Derby losing the fight they showed away at the turn of the year... and is there still a glimmer of light that relegation can be avoided?

And there's also our regular podcast, which may/may not be ever so slightly out of date as we recorded it on Monday night.

Still, there's some great chat about Ravel Morrison's scissorkick... and George Clooney.

  20. Hey all - our new episode is out NOW:

With the Championship season entering 'The Business End', Derby's survival still hangs in the balance. Nine games to go and five points from safety, can The Greatest Escape still be achieved? Chris and Tom are joined by Ollie Wright (@derbycountyblog) to look back on the essential victory over Barnsley, followed by the somewhat inevitable defeat to Bournemouth.

We focus on Ravel Morrison - 'a breath of fresh air' according to Rooney and Derby's match-winner in their last home game, as well as the departure of Kamil Jozwiak - a player who failed to deliver, or thrown into impossible circumstances during the pandemic?

There's discussion too on the last nine games - and if Derby are to earn the 15-18 points needed to stay up, where do the wins come from?
