He also put in a shift covering across to allow Bird the freedom he had tonight. It's not just about what he does on the ball, it's out of possession too. And he's doing this off the back of no pre-season at all.

I can’t believe some of the stuff I’m reading on here!
I make no apologies in posting this which I pinched from elsewhere.
Taken from a press conference before a match against Forest.
Of all the directions we thought Wayne Rooney’s career may take after the end of his playing days, we perhaps didn’t expect this.
The eloquent and passionate spokesperson for a community worrying about its football club. A father figure for young footballers fearing for their livelihoods.
But this is Rooney in January 2022. As manager of Derby, Rooney carries responsibilities far heavier than anything he experienced during his years as centre forward and captain for Manchester United and England.
Derby is more than a football club,’ Rooney said.
‘It gives everybody in this city hope. It gives kids the right to dream. It gives young players opportunities. It’s incredible that it’s been left in this situation.
‘It needs to remain in the football pyramid. If not there will be a lot of hearts broken.’
He has already spoken to parents of his players about their mental health, asking them to look out for red flags. Local supporter groups, he revealed on Friday, have his phone number.
Rooney has paid for vital training ground equipment himself and has promised football staff made redundant over the last 12 months that, if brighter days do return, they will be the first ones back through the door.
In short, Rooney has vowed to carry the load of Derby’s troubles on his own shoulders and on the field at least there has been a revival.
So, there has been some brightness but trying to find a way through the gloom of impending extinction continues to represent the greatest challenge of Rooney’s career.
‘Yeh, I think it is,’ he said. ‘It’s been incredibly tough at times. It’s been emotional. I have seen staff lose jobs. I felt the right way to go about this was to try and burden myself and take pressure off staff and players.
‘I know they look to me for guidance and I try. The results and the efforts of the players and staff have been incredible. The players believe in me and I am more than capable of dealing with the stuff off the pitch.

Impending extinction …………so for those Derby County supporters wishing the worst for Rooney hang your heads in shame.

Where I'm at is really simple, I have nothing but appreciation for Rooney and wish him well on a personal level in his managerial career wherever that takes him.
He will always be a part of our story and will be forever grateful for his efforts whilst the club was on the brink.

Didn't get chance to comment last night, but our first goal is EXACTLY what sibs does best in our team. He's the one who's able to intricately get throw 2-3 players with genuine intent to score, not many players can do that. NML is great with turf ahead of him, Wilson can do it but has Dobbin levels of finishing, long story short, Sibs is the only one capable.
Due to Collins needing everything on a plate, we need those players who can create goals out of nothing, and sibs does just that.
Regardless of not winning the game by a substantial margin, I just hope sibs has got some confidence from this and takes it into the league where it really matters.

A lot seems to be made of our play being mostly counter attacking.
Whilst I agree that we don’t seem to dominate possession, there is an art in forcing mistakes and being quick in transition.
Perhaps this might not suit the  ‘purists’ eye or those who perhaps watch too much Sky coverage of the Premiership, however Leicester City managed to runaway with the PL relying on just this style of play.
Again, I’m not condoning it however, I do think we have the players who can play both possession based and also counter attacking football at this level. If might be part of PWs masterplan or then  again perhaps not.

I’d take Idiakez in a heartbeat.
You know, it’s increasingly common that holding midfielders make decent managers/coaches because they could always understand the game better. Rather than relying on physical attributes, they used their brain.
The obvious examples being Guardiola and now Arteta and Xabi Alonso.
But Gary O’Neil is now another. Thomas Frank was an amateur central midfielder.
Idiakez was an intelligent player. I think from a coaching perspective he probably has the footballing brain to go far.

On reflection only one of the goals four goals conceded could have been prevented by better positional play/ coaching
Mistake 1 - Howler by Bradley with an off balance backpass
    Mistake 2 - Error/Misjudgement by Wildsmith
Mistake 3 - Elder not hearing LOUD shout from Vickers
Which leaves the one goal last night that had 3 centre backs in touching distance of the scorer who all failed to deal with the situation.

A game decided by two gifts…
Lots of pressure and half chances created by us.
Warne looks to be getting what he wanted in terms of more quality crosses but we didn’t win enough first or second balls from them. Whether that was down to us or the fact that  Wigan were resolute and crowded their box.
It’s a bit of a reality check but I’d rather have it now than later in the season.
Oh… Didzy on the score sheet for Notts County but not the fairy tale return he might have wished for

I thought Giles Barnes would have an amazing career.  I know many of you on here think otherwise.
Never saw Timi Max Elsnik play, but he seemed to get a huge amount of 'just wait until he breaks into the first team' build up and praise from all quarters.

When did you seen the plan? Can you share it with us?
Let’s not start jumping to conclusions again about what Clowes is or isn’t willing to do. The club has a budget to work to, and a business plan agreed with the EFL, provided we’re working towards that the fans have to accept the decisions the leadership of the club take for now, whether we like it or not.

Not to get involved in the debate, but Vydra did very little at Premier League level and @jimbobram was clearly referring to performances in a Derby shirt and not Bent's career before he came to us.
