There are a number of contributors to these pages, genuine fans all I’m pretty sure, whose informed and interesting views I have enjoyed reading over the years but whose opinion of our manager is consistently less than positive, couched always in terms of ‘I want him and the team to do well, but….’  The latest ‘but’ appears to be his use (or non-use) of academy players.
Are we really all so cynical nowadays that we don’t believe what we’re being told in interviews or have we just stopped listening?
Warne has explained how much benefit he will get as manager from an academy player breaking through into the first team.  It’s in his interest for that to happen as it stretches his budget and allows him to spend more elsewhere.  Even if you (mistakenly imo) believe that he’s not ‘interested’ in young players, surely you can understand that he might be keen to extend his financial reach and recruit more widely?
He’s explained - and we have the photos to prove it happens - that players from the academy join in first team training sessions so that he and his staff can look at them but also so that the players themselves get a taste of the requirements of being a first team member.  He’s explained that they have to perform, to make the most of their opportunity.  Hasn't football, at all levels, always been the same?  It’s dog eat dog.  You have to perform all the time, now more than ever. Those who work hard, and not necessarily the most talented, get to have careers.  Twas ever thus
Hasn’t he said that he has to be sure that a young player won’t be destroyed by the experience of playing in the first team?  In these somewhat softer times aren’t we all aware of the mental health of individuals in a very tough work place - David Clowes directly referred to it in relation to Rosenior, for example.  Warne has said that he has seen a player’s career destroyed by being thrown in at the deep end too soon; Will Hughes (for example) was introduced gently - played on the wing/played for a few minutes at the end of a game before he was allowed to play regularly.  I was there at Steve Powell’s full debut v Liverpool.  It wasn’t his actual debut if I recall correctly.  But Steve (like Tom Huddleston) was a freak of football nature - a 16 year old in a man’s body, steeped in football from his father and with the mental strength to go with it.  There’s a reason that boys very rarely play men’s professional football. Shouldn’t we be glad that a senior member of our management team has the long term career prospects of our youngest players at heart rather than short term gain?  If you were a parent of someone coming through wouldn’t you want your son (or daughter) to be looked after?  We’re a tough crowd in a tough business and I don’t want a player destroyed by a poor performance in front of a Pride Park crowd. I want a manager to play someone when he thinks that player is ready, not before, and if he errs on the side of caution then good. Better that than destroying a career.
And what experience do our current academy players have to bring?  It’s not a winning experience, that’s for sure.  And lest anyone thinks I’m criticising, I’m not.  The academy was pillaged to help us have a club to support.  16/17/18 year olds couldn’t cope with under 21 football last season and they’re struggling again this season despite additions, so how are they going to cope with League 1 football? But Warne has described the regular meetings he and his staff have with those in charge of the academy (and recruitment) where they discuss who is ready for the opportunity, initially to train with the first team and then to show what they can do.  Shouldn’t we applaud that approach?
By all means criticise Warne for team selection or substitutions or formations or whatever if you want to but let’s not manufacture a lack of interest in young players coming through our academy as (yet) another stick to beat him with

A win today so we have 3 pages moaning about a commentator that wasn't actually commentating.
Coming up with new and inventive things to criticise should be considered our specialist subject.

Hmmmm.... a mixed bag again today. Happy with the 3 points and clean sheet.
I think we need bodies back in midfield which is where we struggle... Embleton now injured again, Tommo out, Bird out, Hourihane out. Both Sibley and NML had poor games for me today and also Waggy struggled to get into the game. So i thought midfield is where we weren't quite right again. But as the saying goes "success breeds success" .. .so hopefully our season will kick on.... but as I said I feel we need more from a depleted midfield.
I've got to say that whilst I agree we're not playing brilliantly I don't get all the negativity on this board...

Clinging on from 25 minutes against one of the weakest teams in the division. It’s honestly been utter dross and I’m jealous of anyone who hasn’t wasted their Saturday afternoon watching it. Horse s***.

there are a variety of scenarios that could mean we don't win - not least a referee like at Bolton. So you would be happy to blame it on Warne and the players????

He didn’t disobey, he was moved there after Embleton went off.
We tried to move the balls down both wings, but the understanding wasn't great between Elder and Sibley, both of whom are very rusty.
Wilson is very direct but he's always going to try and make something happen. He worked well with Barks as the latter is an intelligent footballer who adapts as he goes.
Smith also played some good through balls centrally, which didn't quite come off. Embleton is still building fitness but I thought showed his potential for us last night.
This is a very churlish summary for a game in which we had 68% possession and a pass accuracy of 87%, 672 passes and 17 shots to their 4.

We was robbed at Bolton and the Pompey goal had a handball in the build up and was offside.
If Warne had been lucky with refs decisions we would be looking at a good, solid start to the season.
    Fine margins.

I think that is extremely unlikely.
Warne wasn't brought in to produce champagne football,Clowes knew exactly what style of play PW would be bringing here.
The gaffer wanted a rebuild of the club from top to bottom. We were absolutely on our arses before the buy out,the academy was decimated, moor farm was physically deteriorating and staff morale was on the floor.
Clowes no doubt believed that warne was the man to remedy the majority of those issues and his ethos to club life appears to align with his.
So,I think,at least whilst the club is being gradually 'repaired' that he will stick with pw,even if that means mid to upper obscurity in this shitty league for this season at least.
I'm no big fan of pw football( or of the crap played under roseniors brief tenure) I'm a Mac 1&2 fan through and through with all the lovely gameplay and flair that it brings, but I do recognise what the owner is trying to achieve and all of this hand wringing and whining on the forums that we aren't being entertained isn't going to change clowes medium and long term plans.
So we need to get used to this reality i.m.o,get behind the manager and team and suck it up,this is going to be a long if slightly tedious job....but better than the alternative we faced a short time ago.

Sibley, in 4 seasons and 100 appearances has had plenty of chances, has yet to convince managers he deserves a starting place on a regular basis and is just a good squad player. The simple explanation, unlikely to be accepted by many Rams fans, is that he ain't that good. His contributions range from fabulous to anonymous, consistent he is not, and he will not be a game-changer for our season.

Football is generally cyclical, which generally means we'll be back. However, I believe we are perhaps the club with the worst record in the country for messing things up. I remember years ago reading a piece in the Times which said we had a special prize for missing chances to succeed from Clough onwards. Some may call it the 'gypsy curse' from the Racecourse Ground but there is something about us which leads us to spurning glorious opportunities for success.
However, a club our size will not be kept down and out forever. We will get another run at the top flight in the next two decades of that I am sure. Eventually, we will stumble upon the correct combination at the right time and get back to where we belong.

If the ref did not see handball how can he give it? No matter how you try to twist it to suit your agenda it was a pisspoor decison based on at best guesswork or at worst a bias against us.

Oh, I agree. These things happen when humans are involved.
But that doesn’t mean that we should shrug our shoulders (as per your emoji) and excuse a guy (who has previous with us) who not only got this major decision wrong but also 3 others, each of which would/could have changed the scoreline in our favour
And, it might have looked like handball from 100 yards away up the other end of the pitch but he was 10 yards away at most, albeit with a slightly obscured view; the lino was 20 yards away with no obscured view, and the laws say they can only give the freekick and send Joe off if they saw what happened, and they didn’t.
If they saw the incident they saw it wasn’t handball; if they didn’t see it they can’t give it. And the whole point of training referees is to get them to get the big decisions in a game correct.
