....and yet here we are, still 3 points off top with a third of the season remaining, averaging a smidgen under 2 points per game........

You got torn a new one, as you put it, for posting like a hangry baby. The fact that you welcome others doing the same speaks volumes.
FWIW, If you and others seriously believe that you are the only ones who can see that there are issues with the team, then you need to brush up on your reading skills. Equally, if you think this squad would prosper in the Championship, then I'd beg to differ. That's just something folk say to bash Warne I'm afraid. Same people continuously pumping the same line, then calling the team garbage every week, like nobody will notice the contradiction. We're a L1 side and that's all we are until we're not.

Found out my cousin took his own life today…
3 years ago he had a car accident that left him paralysed from the waist down, knew he was struggling with it but not enough to do this.

I know a few people in/around the wealth bracket of our owner (DCFC). One, a good friend of mine still, collects money off vouchers, clothes are all from Asda George, drives a nice car (BMW 4x4) but its not new or that flashy (updates once every 5-10 years) and lives in a nice house (5-6 bedrooms) but its certainly not a mansion, about as non-flash as they come in summary. Up until a few years ago he worked for me (long retired) as a consultant doing advisory work, reprimanded me once for suggesting a taxi when we could get the bus, and made sure he could claim the bus ticket back on expenses! You may think mean-fisted but just a normal down-to-earth bloke who happened to have made millions (and I am talking millions). I don't think he'd buy anything else he doesn't already have yet he could buy almost anything if he wanted to. What drove him? Love of business I'd guess, less of money. Like a pinball machine, take away the score its not that fun, you always want to chase a bigger number. Even if you don't want or need it. So in a business setting, the score is just cash generated. But you need to keep score otherwise it becomes none challenging/non-stimulating.
I know another very well on the opposite end, richer still, who has his own island, yacht, farmland, properties galore, more supercars than you can shake a stick at, luxury watches etc. I suspect there is no end to the stuff he could want to acquire. What was his motivation? Cash. Cash. Cash. He'd have sold his grandma for a fiver. I learned an awful lot from this bloke as a mentor but learned an awful lot as well about what I wouldn't want to become. Its not actually a life that appeals to me either so I understand where you're coming from. So I think the answer, like anything in life, is there is a spectrum of people even within the wealthy bracket, whereby acquistion of "more" is for varying reasons. Sometimes its as simple as just because they can with relative ease, as you say once you've made a few quid, the others follow more easily.

I think once you've reached an income level that enables you to live "free" from financial concerns, your future happiness depends on your ability to manage higher levels of income without adding to your stress or damaging your health.
For some wealthy people, the love of money is a sickness and the more they get, the more true contentment becomes elusive.

The difference in how we were treated and how they are being treated is astonishing.
I harbour no ill will towards Reading, but being allowed to sign and register players okus the EFL publically backing the fans is very different to how we had to sell our kids for a fraction of the worth in most cases, not to mention not being allowed to extend Jags contract for 6 months.
Not defending him, but I still think they went after Mel hard after he called out the TV deal.
Wigan fans saying similar on Social Media, well apart from the Mel bit.

I have literally signed back into my account for the first time in 5 years or so to tell you this is wrong, thus emphasizing how ridiculous the rest of this post is.

St Ives town are based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, which you might have realised had you not been so desperate to slag him off.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Ives_Town_F.C.

His last season in League 1 was 2021/22 season, so a couple of seasons ago where he scored 11 in 35 which is respectable enough (Collins scored 11 in 42 last season) for someone we signed on a free.

If he was a goal machine he would either be playing at a higher level or command a fee that we are currently unable to afford. Besides goals, he has a good work rate and has contributed to the teams success (when fit) in other ways that Opta and x.G don't/can't quantify.

A decent chunk of our fan base (and I guess football fans in general) have such a reductive view on attacking players' attributes which rarely extends past their ability to score or create goals. This is rightly the best metric when comparing the best players in the world, which I will concede Washington is not, but he brings other qualities to the team which are of value and contribute to our success - along with chipping in with the odd goal here and there.
So far this season he has registered 3 goals and 2 assists in 13 league games (497 mins) which equates roughly to a goal contribution every 100 minutes, which I will gladly accept for someone we signed for nothing.

The facts are we signed an aging striker on a free from a struggling Championship club. Unless a miracle happened, ala McGoldrick, which you can never rely on, he was always going to be a squad filler as we look to sign a young high potential player.
So far this season, he's had 14 league appearances of which 6 starts, averaging 35 minutes per appearance. He's got 3 goals and 2 assists. We have 20 games left, let's say he's fit enough for half of them, scores another couple of goals, maybe another couple assists. He could achieve 9-10 goal contributions in 25ish games. For a squad filler, on a free transfer, that's decent enough business for me.
Is it the future? No. Does it do a adequate enough job for us now as a squad/bench player? Yes for me.
