europia reacted to Millenniumram in Waghorn and Washington will be vital
Waghorn is currently technically our best forward.
Yep, I just said that. Lord help us.

It's a strange one. I just can't see why we recruited this player. Perhaps Mr Warne thought he needed a 'Bragstad' type signing to keep up tradition?

I don't think there is actually a large contingent of supporters expecting us to 'roll teams' every week. However the general consensus in football is; if you defend well, win your home games and get your season off to a reasonable start, there is a likelihood of progress with the possibility of some level of success.

europia got a reaction from jimtastic56 in Should we be patient? If so, how does it improve?
Not so sure about being patient, more like we have to accept the situation and hold our noses at PP when the team stink the place out. The recruitment seems the main problem, and the next biggest problem being retention as we are likely to see inevitable departures. It's most likely that (for financial reasons) Mr Clowes will stick with Warne and allow him time. I do wonder if Liam would have been a better option as a long term prospect. Obviously hindsight a wonderful thing, and the owner is the one who makes the difficult decisions and lives with the outcome.

well he's defo gone now then, the ye olde 'next manager?' thread has appeared! good as the vote of confidence from the board is this!

europia reacted to Tyler Durden in So who would we have then?
He was at the game as he didn't consider there were enough random threads about Paul Warnes future on here so he thought he'd try and be helpful and encourage forum members to generate a few more.
Ooops.

Yeah not to be mean about him but if he was a horse he'd be glue by now tbh.

Interesting take on RD Talk-in from the Fleetwood local radio journo. Possible Marriott might be missing after being carried off at half-time Tuesday, and said Stockley hasn’t played yet this year. He was more doom and gloom in 5 minutes than this forum in the last 4 days!!

Exactly what I eluded to in my post; getting used to operating within a budget that ensures DCFC maintains financially stability and avoids unsustainable debt. Considering our recent dire financial situation, there's no alternative to this strategy.

Excellent post.
To say I feel sorry for the guy is a step too far, after all he’s wealthy and looks healthy.
But I do think truth be told between him and the fly on the wall, if he could get rid of Warne and it not be so detrimental or risky to the team he would. We’ve started so poor, the team looks lost and as one person put ‘it makes Rowett’s football seem like Barcelona’.
Personally I think he has three options; Sack Warne and bring in who he see’s fit. Bring in a DoF and give them the remit of advising him accordingly come christmas. Or come out and dampen expectations and give Warne the vote of confidence and us fans have to suck it and see.
Personally I’m leaning towards the DoF option first. If Warne opposes the idea then that’s a reason to get rid. If he doesn’t then a seasoned footballing head can properly start to run the ship as he see’s fit.
I think this season is dead and buried already, it’s going to be a painful affair. Maybe if we can bring in a manager who can breathe fresh optimism in to the club that will stop the toxicity?
The scary part is come next summer we’ll have another rebuild to undertake, with the likes of Nelson, Bradley and Washington all still under contract.
Clowes’ decision to appoint Warne was bold and exciting at the time. However, it looks to be a mistake and a costly one at that.

europia reacted to oomarkwright in A penny for David Clowes’ thoughts - and what comes next?
The way I see it it's the same as I said last week.
Clowes chose to effectively remove Ros, and give 4 men a 4 year contract so that means he needs to hold his nerve and play the long game. Can we really afford to get rid of PW's whole staff?
Even if that means giving up on promotion for this season, holding tight in league one mid table obscurity and give it a proper go once the full EFL business plan has been achieved.
I think things WILL calm down once the window shuts. Get thru to the international break and continue to work on fitness and patterns of play.
We would not be out of it in 10th in January and COULD make a few more finishers signings like Bolton did last Jan. This would leave us in a better position next season.
I'm not a Season Ticket holder so this sounds depressing for you guys but we need to look at the bigger picture.
Knee jerk sackings R pointless or wishing we'd have kept rozzy now. A lot hated the slow football and were looking to see a change then.
I am still grateful we have a football club and hope DC stays out of the football decisions but together with PW they need to work at changing things to improve results, and perhaps even more team spirit and unity.

If I was in his position I'd probably thinking that talk is cheap and feel a bit foolish for being drawn in by a car salesman-type and giving him a 4 year contract as a football manager, but that I can't really see, or afford, a way out without drawing unwanted comparisons to my predecessor.
I'm not David Clowes though, nor am I suggesting that this is or should also be his thought process.

Clowes has made questionable decisions but he saved the club .
I’m very conficted at the moment .
I think we have to except the situation the club is in for now.

My personal opinion is not to criticise clowes.
Hes the reason we have a club. Hes running it sustainably so we dont have this threat again.
Sure the decisions hes made may not pay off but thats normal in life and business.

Definitely, he’s already moved ahead of Bragstad, not sure he’s overtaken Grenet yet though.
But yeah, he’s stinking the place out, what a s*** signing.

Imagine spending not insignificant chunks of your budget bringing in ‘Championship’ defenders and having to constantly replace them with a player you were clearly trying to phase out.
Forsyth, what a player he’s still showing himself to be.
Seriously though a defence of Smith Foz Cash Sibley was so much more solid than this.

Despite having misgivings about our lack of activity in bringing reinforcements up front, the one thing I was reassured by was that we looked like we'd put in place a defensive bedrock. If worst came to the worst then we'd be able to grind out wins with minimal goals because we'd be too good at the back for most offences in this league.
Well, that theory's out of the window already. I've tried to banish it from my memory over the past 15 years but the only time I can remember us being this clueless at the back was in the Premier League season. The Clod Davis-led Keystone Cops defense didn't look any worse than what we have at the moment. Cash and Forsyth are not bad defenders, we've seen them play extremely well. Bradley and Nelson, as we understand it are not bad defenders. All of a sudden Wildsmith is being exposed repeatedly in every game we're playing. Wildsmith is not a bad keeper. Confidence will start to play a factor now, and the negative atmosphere in the ground can't be helping, BUT, none of that explains the performances we've seen so far. As much as I like Warne personally I can't really move beyond "tactics and motivation", both of which I can only lay at his door.
I'm not sure there's any way back from this. The one positive that the last few years have brought is is the siege/bunker mentality that we're all in this together and it's "us against everyone else" - all of that has been p1ssed away in a matter of weeks. Pride Park is brilliant when everyone's on board and they're in tune with the team. Look at the Birmingham and Peterboro games in the relegation season - you couldn't wish for a better harmony between team and supporters. Gone now, and whilst supporters can be fickle, once it gets this toxic it's very hard to get back.
I'd be interested to know what Clowes is thinking about now. This is his man, his pick. Not criticizing. On paper Warne looked a good/safe bet. Even under a business plan, with the amount of support we have I believe Clowes when he says we have a good budget for the division.
Another home defeat to Fleetwood on Saturday and I think we'll be finding out whether or not we have the budget to replace Warne....

I think that would be a fair assumption given his I ain't staying in League 1 speech on arrival. It seemed arrogant rather than rousing and had me worried from the off. Didn't say anything at the time as it would have been seen as anti Warne. What I was being hammered for 2 months ago is panning out exactly as I thought.
For the record, I'm not happy about that. I don't to go games in the pissing rain and give my time to see abject football and players long past their best struggling to press and getting picked off. It was obvious the way it was heading but it's worse than I thought.

The reason I left early from the Newcastle game all those years ago was that I was working in financial services on commission based sales, so if I didn’t do my job I didn’t get paid, and was watching a bunch of millionaires or soon to be millionaires getting paid a fortune for not performing.
That sentiment wasn’t lost on me last night - we can only pay new players £4000 a week, but that equates to £208,000 a year. And many are on way more than that. We are watching millionaires and soon to be millionaires (in Division 3, remember) being paid more in a fortnight than I was earning in a year, and that for working 60 hours a week!
So while many of us are bricking ourselves about the still ongoing cost of living crisis, the Derby players and management are swanning around without a care in the world. So people criticising fans who boo the team need to think again. We are the best supported team in the midlands, and outdo many Premiership clubs, and we have stuck by the club through its darkest days, of which there have been many. So booing isn’t a sign of lack of support. It is saying it how it is, it is demanding that the players and management do their bit as well instead of just showing up for the pay-check. Maybe they should dip into their own well-filled pockets and refund all those fans who have to endure this tripe, because the fans are the only ones who turn up at a match.
And I have come to the conclusion that Queen Victoria was a Ram because she was famous for saying “We are not amused”. 😡
