LeedsRam1999 reacted to rammieib in They're playing football now, not hoofball.
One of my criticisms at the beginning when Warne came in is we all knew his style was direct and get the ball into the other half as fast as we can and try and win second balls and play from there. I think the team originally struggled with what that meant and how to execute it.
One of the key differences for me in this run is that Warne is allowing his defensive players to actually work the ball and pass it between us. It’s not as frequent as the LR style but it’s a definite shift from early Warne days.
We are constantly now in the 50-60% possession stat. Wildsmith gives a lot more short goal kicks and we definitely allow CF and EC more freedoms on the ball.

I for one am really enjoying it now because it isn’t hoofball for 90 minutes. A lot of our better goals come from the passing passages of play - Hourihane header today for instance was a nice move with the EC diagonal after some passing in the defence. If you look back over the recent goals since December a lot more are worked plays. Hourihane against Accrington, McGoldrick first goal against Forest Green. All were excellent team moves.
I feel that Warne now trusts them and he’s striking the correct balance between ball retention, long balls, direct balls into Collins and playing the triangles of play to create space. There is a decent mix in there so we are not too one dimensional.
Well done Warne and his team. This is starting to get fun.

I will not criticise any player that decided to stay or sign for this club in extraordinary times.
Whats kept this club going over the last eighteen months has been the relationship between the supporters the different management teams and the encouragement towards players, the all in this together, never give up, fight to the end attitude that has served us well.

………mind you, I might change me mind during me half time Bovril at Stadium MK. ?

I just want to say how lucky you are to have Paul Warne as manager. I've supported the millers for 69 years. Obviously, I've seen managers come and go during that period. As far as I'm concerned, and many other fans Warne is the best manager we've had.
Like Derby fans we went through some dark times. Administration points deducted, lost our ground, forced to play in Sheffield in an athletic stadium. No atmosphere, 4 years in the 4th division.
Paul has many qualities. Excellent staff management, a workaholic. He's articulate, honest and will live and breathe Derby County.
I thank him for all the memories, 3 Wembley wins 3 promotions and I wish him well and as a consequence wish the Rams well. I've never had a second team, but for the first time Derby County will be my second team. I look forward to seeing Paul succeed.
Hopefully Derby will be promoted and we survive in the championship and look forward to see you at the New York stadium.
    All the best.

I'm not sure why PW has dropped a division . . . . other than . ..  the huge Rams support, the 21C stadium, the vison of David Clowes, the history of DCFC, the chance to build from nothing, the good players we have, the joy of working in Derbyshire, the improved salary and security of a long contract . . .

    Abstain.
Warne has three promotions under his belt at this level and would be a great appointment if there was a vacancy.
But I'm not sure there was a need for the vacancy...LR has had us playing some quite nice stuff, albeit lacking in goals at times (I felt they'd come). Can't help but feel that there's more to this than first meets the eye.

It’s not an easy question, because I have so much respect for Liam Rosenior and would’ve been happy to see him take on the job for the next 18 months.
However, if it was my money on the table and promotion was required this season to stem further bleeding then I would absolutely go with Warne.
Emotional choice would be Rosenior, business choice would be Warne.

Better than expected to be honest.
We all know what state the squad was in back at the start of July without repeating it, the recruits were better than I initially expected yet I still couldn’t buy into the idea we would walk League 1.
I thought we would be around 17th, 18th now and hopefully starting to look like a team as we near Christmas, best case scenario pushing for a play off place.
Being Derby County, having 2 league titles in the cabinet with an FA cup and 30,000 seater stadium doesn’t count for anything in this league, all my expectations have been based on the situation and the time it takes to build a team. You can sign 22 players in a matter of weeks, ask Cooper, yet building a team on and off the pitch takes time.
To be sat 7th, level on points with 6th, 7pts off top is incredible really in my opinion and if this is the start of the journey, I think we may not be down here for as long as I first feared.

Tell me how not having a game on is the only way to show respect?
If the game does get postponed, I'll only end up doing a bit of DIY or maybe go on a walk with my boys. I imagine others will just pop into the pub for a few hours instead. Is that showing respect?
On the other hand, you could have hundreds of thousands of people up and down the country participating in a minutes silence, followed by several minutes of applause and a rendition of God Save the Queen.

It's an absolute nonsense that sports has to take a weekend off.
The nation is simply not in some sort of collective chasm of grief despite what the media are presenting. A vast majority of people simply want to crack on.

The unbeaten run continues - 6 now following a fantastic few minutes on Saturday. Next up, Grimsby Town in the Pizza Cup group stage. Fully expect the side to be mixed up quite a bit, getting extra minutes into some of the lesser used players.
Our only prior experience in the competition was the U23s in 2016. That time, we lost two games and lost the other on penalties (if scores are level after 90 minutes, a penalty shootout takes place, with the winner earning an extra point).
Derby have won 11 of the last 17 games, losing twice.

    My predicted lineup:
    Wildsmith
    Rooney Cashin
    Oduroh   Smith   Tommo   Forsyth
    Knight   McGoldrick   Barkhuizen
    Dobbin
Subs: Loach, Stearman, Roberts, Bird, Hourihane, Sibley, Collins

    What an absolutely bizarre game.
I don’t feel like we played well but we could have been 2 or 3 up in the first half.
Peterborough fans feel like they played really well but I thought they were fairly average…their finishing was awful and I can’t see too much wrong with the red card. If you’re on a yellow you don’t even attempt that tackle.
Amazing what a difference McGoldrick made but not so sure he could last 70+ mins (at least yet).
My positives were Knight, Sibley, Dobbin (at times) and McGoldrick. Also thought Smith was pinging the ball about with purpose when he came on.

just got home, Strange game for me where we had the lions share of the ball, Doing all the things LR is asking but some things we shouldn't...like giving them the ball when a easier ball was on, Sucker punch for their goal, Cross comes in and player ghosts in at the back post...0-1 against 10 men...we've been there before ?
Then we started to revert to type, Playing balls that a simple ball was the better ball, I couldn't see us getting back in the game, Another corner with the same outcome...No, Knight rises like a Salmon that's been stung by an underwater wasp...boom 1-1, Crowd is now up for it, This resonates to the players, I'm happy with a point, The players aint, Ball comes in, And an old head is there...enter Mr McGoldrick, A side foot into the net...and PP explodes, At my age I was whooping it up...thought I was 20 again, The noise from all 4 sides was electric, I even sang which is very unusual for me.
A deserved 3 points, Won by a little craft and an attitude of not giving up, The supporters WERE the 12th man...Boom!
