metalsheep02 reacted to Rambalin in Freddie Ladapo - signed for Charlton on loan
They had a difficult relationship after Lapado said he wanted to leave..... Warne dropped him them only played him sporadically for the rest of the season.

Player on the way down.
Not sure he has the pace or fitness which made him a force a few years back.
We could do better IMHO.

I think the 5 Warne mentioned will be permanent signings and then a few loans on top. I reckon he has down played the number a little.

Aden Flint going elsewhere is no bad thing.

Nelson has been captain at almost all of his former clubs.

My source who said 6 or 7 weeks ago that Flint had signed, told me it was all agreed but 2 other clubs have offered him 7k a week and we wouldn't match it.
How much of this is correct, I don't know, just passing on what I've been told.

I do like Jason Knight, a lot, but for an attacking midfielder anybody looking at his numbers from the outside would surely say he didn’t score enough goals last season, nor did he have enough assists. And that’s playing in League One.
Also, it doesn’t matter how much we think he’s worth, he’s only worth what someone is willing to pay.
—
On the other hand, there’s a gamble to be had here in that if we don’t sell Knight, and we get promotion, he may be willing to stay and sign a new contract in the Championship with Derby but, if we don’t go up, or he’s unwilling to extend his stay, he can leave for nothing next summer.

(Rotherham fan here)
Warne definitely got us off to a decent start but in fairness we really did ride our luck in a few of those games. We could just have easily been at the wrong end of the table. And like you say, we were always going to slide.
In contrast, Matt Taylor had very little luck. Late goals going in, referee decisions going against us and an horrific injury list. That being said, when you rely on 30+year old journey-men you'll have injuries.
Looking forward to seeing the players Warne brings in. Big season for him.

metalsheep02 got a reaction from Carnero in Summer Rumour Mill
I agree with the general point and to try and add some balance Warne averaged 1.55 points per game in his 9 games in charge of Rotherham last season (14 points). Taylor averaged 0.97 ppg (36 in 37 games). Taking Taylor's management over a full season gives 46 points so they still escape relegation but only just.
I understand that there are plenty of other factors at play (Taylor didn't handle pre-season and was appointed out of the transfer window plus Warne's teams have a history of stalling / free falling later in the season) but I did want to try and make the point that Warne's brief tenure had an important role in keeping Rotherham up in 22/23.

Alex Albon P7!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and some other stuff, max wins, obvs, Alonso and Lewis had a decent race, then the Ferrari's maanging to not ferrai it up and kept Perez behind them in P6 quite easly.
Not a classic by any means but not too bad for F1 23 (if you accept the race is behind max).

We were rubbish at scoring from corners and crosses from free kicks last season - Cashin and Forsyth the main culprits - I expect that to change drastically next season, needs must and all that - Hourihane delivery was fine and Sibley when allowed was also excellent so that wasn’t the problem.

Well for me he wasted a lot of free kicks I just feel we need something a little bit different to keep opposition guessing.

metalsheep02 reacted to vonwright in Haydon Roberts - signed for Bristol City
Shame. Think he's already a very good player who will get better. Presumably he knows this, which is why he wants to play at a higher level.
This is one reason I don't like it when people say 'i don't mind missing out on promotion, we weren't ready, gives us no time time to plan' etc etc. If you miss out on promotion it makes it much harder to keep and attract good young players.

It may not be the absolute origin but on a trip to Bramall Lane many years ago, the chant was being started by a group of drunk youths that had confused Sharp and Ched Evans together. To have this completely unfounded allegation and abuse targeted at me would really upset me too.

metalsheep02 reacted to Carl Sagan in Embargo and Transfer restrictions lifted
You jest, but the timing is interesting. Perhaps it's just (another) coincidence? Or, as others have implied, did the EFL want to ensure Derby had stayed down before taking their foot off the club's throat?
I'm glad it's happened. I will never be convinced the EFL have treated us remotely fairly.

metalsheep02 reacted to VulcanRam in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
I think, broadly, we're about here with it all? (*edit: views taken from 165 pages of the thread!)
PROS: Great pedigree in getting promotion from league 1;
inherited a team that wasn't his and not necessarily suited to what he wants and got them to within a whisker of the play offs;
has got a tune out of an old players/young players/players who haven't had this much football/running in a game for a long time;
had a long unbeaten run which got us into the top 6;
popular at the club and in the dressing room;
comes across well with good honesty and ethos
CONS: Failed on the last day when a play off place was in our hands;
terrible run of form in February and March;
boring/dire/no brand of football that doesn't best suit his players;
tactically unable to respond to opposition changes, particularly in second halves of games;
too late or ineffective with substitutions/wrong substitutions;
unnecessary team changes, especially with players on form
So surely those who are pro Warne can see some areas he can improve on, while those anti-Warne can see there is plenty to praise him for. No need for polarised viewpoints.
There. Now we can all get along. 🐏

I’m still scarred by the time we played Reading at home on the last day of the season in 2015. They were safe and had nothing to play for and all we needed was a draw to secure our spot in the play offs and finish 5th. We lost 0:3 and ended up 8th.
