  1. Leicester lost to Millwall!!! Leeds had opportunity drew with Sunderland. Ipswich drew with Watford!! All games they “should” win. As Ed Dawes is just saying it wasn’t plain sailing in 95/96. It never goes to plan.
Players not on it tonight but no lack of effort. Man management is just as important here as tactics. We’ve probably got to win 3 games, just need to get into last game with it in our own hands.

So the players will suddenly put more effort in to avoid going down because they are being well paid? They appear to have put buggar all effort in up until now, and probably signed contracts that said nothing about a pay decrease if relegated. Tictoc was one of the highest paid players in the Prem last year if I remember correctly, it didn't seem to motivate him too much.

No but they have enough big players in their squad to perform and get the job done over Luton.  It’s a disgrace they’re even in the mix but let’s hope they do a Leicester and bottle it.

Unfortunately Forest have a lot of winnable games coming up.

Burnley, Sheff Utd and Everton away, plus Wolves and Chelsea at home.

I think they will get another 10 points.

I don’t see Luton getting any more than 6.

Luton gave it a brilliant go but they dropped some easy points by losing at home to Sheff Utd and squandering a 3-0 lead at Bournemouth.

Luton also have winnable games at home in particular and Forest have City to play. It’s not over. But I think Forest will get over the line simply because they have a top 10 wage bill and they should be nowhere near the relegation fight even with their points deductions.

  4. Normal service resumes. Forest lose and it’s all the ref’s fault again!! They really are getting tiresome. Roy Keane’s view on the Yates incident was spot on, he needs to toughen up. Sending Maddison off wouldve been soft. Danilo was a lucky boy also but I think that was the right call, case of slow Mo making it look worse, it was a natural movement to win the ball and not intentional.

I think we thought the same at Northampton….😎

And we responded by beating Blackpool and drawing away to Pompey unfortunate not to win. We lost back to back games in Feb, we responded by winning 4 in a row. In adversity the team generally delivers, even in the Northampton game despite being awful we still should’ve won. Bolton were battered by Bristol by all accounts but managed to win, we destroyed Bristol when we played them.

We’ve got the tools and are playing well enough to get the wins to get the job done regardless of what Bolton do.

Also didn’t vale go and beat Barnsley at their place recently? Drew away with Wigan and we’re unfortunate not to win. They’re in a scrap for survival and are picking up form who is to say Bolton won’t drop points against them. Derby are no more or less likely to drop points than Bolton and we’re net second with 4 games left. As others have said you’d have bitten your hand off for this position back in October when we lost to Stevenage.

    It’s time to believe.

For those of us who trudged out of Hillsborough, on the last day , last season . For those of us that have been through the last 4 , failed play

-off campaigns - I want to see the players “Run through brick walls”.

Same so do I and they will. Thing I like about us this season is how well we respond to adversity. There is a steel about them. We’ve had to s******** recent games largely due to our injury situation (which is as bad as anyones in the league for all Bolton’s bleating), but I thought we were really good against Pompey and I can see a return to the excellent performances of Bristol Vale and Reading for the last 4 games. If we play like we did against Pompey in the remaining fixtures we’ll get this done, no doubt in my mind.

  7. Yes it feels awful, nerve wracking but by the same token exciting. All these emotions beat monotony every day of the week and twice on Sundays. It’s situations like this that make us love football. And if we don’t get over the line (which I think we will but if we don’t) then the season isn’t over in disappointment we have the playoffs to look forward to. Isn’t great to actually hand something to play for.

  8. I think players who could be very good in the championship and be in top half teams are as follows:

Cashin, Nelson, Nyambe, Wilson, Mendez-Laing, Blackett-Taylor, Gayle. Of these I think Cash could go on to play in the prem, think Nelson, Nyambe, Wilson would also do as squad players if we got there, too early to say about CBT. I really rate Nelson he’s been the surprise of the season and think he could be one of the better centre backs in the champ next season.

As for the rest of them, think Wildsmith Bradley Elder Ward Thommo (he could possibly go into the first category) Sibs will be ok squad players next season, possibly Barks but the rest I feel need to be moved on. Brown could be a factor, if not immediately then second half of the season after another loan spell.

So in summary work needed but think we will definitely see younger players with potential signed next season as we will have no additional restrictions now.

The way things are going we won’t have a better GD than Bolton. They have far more firepower than us and have managed two five goal games in a month. How many of those have we managed !!? They will outscore us up to the end of the season and it’s not like they ship a massive amount of goals..

To my mind it’s win all four or the playoffs. After the Northampton fiasco the Wycombe game really worries me. People judge them as cloggers but they can play as well- check out their thrashing of Posh earlier in the season..

What price a draw between Bolton and pompey ???

Sorry mate think it’s just how you view things probably based on years of disappointment as a Derby fan which I can understand. Yes we could drop points to Wycombe, Bolton defo could drop points to Pompey and everyone seems to assume Posh will be out of it and rolling over on the last day. As for GD, who is to say we won’t smash bottom of the league Carlisle 5-0 last day of the season?

Only thing that is certain right now is we’re a net second on points with 4 games you would expect us to win. We should be confident. 2 wins this week and think the champagne will need to go on ice, dropped points then we’ll still be in the fight to the last day.

  10. Bolton playing Pompey who still have something to play for next weekend, Bolton were honking today by all accounts and very fortunate. I don’t think they’re a particularly happy camp, some of their fans seem to think Evatt has fallen out with players, there’s a soft underbelly there when things don’t go right. There is every conceivable chance they will drop points, if they don’t then fair play.

It’s all about us. Bolton fans will be praying we slip up on Wednesday because they’re relying on us to. On paper we have the easiest fixtures left. I’m hoping we get it done by Cambridge but that will largely be down to Bolton, but going into the last game with it in our hands has to be the aim and we have a very good chance to do that.

I think we’ll draw with Wycombe, beat Leyton Orient, Bolton draw with Pompey, Bolton beat Shrewsbury, Derby beat Cambridge and Bolton beat Vale, taking it to the last day with us still 1 point ahead at home to Carlisle with Bolton away at Posh. We’ll beat Carlisle and I think Bolton for good measure will drop points at Posh.

    We’re going to do this!!

  11. I was watching on tv but as @LeedsCityRam said that atmosphere is wasted on 3rd tier. This is a championship game, add Bolton to the mix also!

Really like Mousinho from when he was Burton captain. Always spoke well, the obvious choice as PFA leader then he’s taken to management outstandingly. Pompey have got lucky and tonight has confirmed (albeit not mathematically) they’re going up.

This is a good point for us and think it could well be decisive!!

I don't recall... but having just Googled the fixtures, it was followed by...

4-0 at Spurs... home loss to Brum... 6-0 at Anfield... I think it must have been around this time that doubt started to... oh... but wait... what's that you say?... Newcastle at home.?.. We're saved!  Hoorah!  Bring on The Arsenal...  🤣

Went to that 4-0 at white hart lane. We were 3-0 down after 13 mins, think even Darren Bent managed to score and he was crap at spurs

Their transfer spend this season was funded by last season's sales.

Their wage bill last season was only £23.6m which is ranked only 14th is the league. You're looking at over £35m for a top 6 wage budget (Bristol City would have been 7th last season with £35.9m).

I’d be very interested to know what their wage budget is for this season and reckon it would be around the figures you’re quoting for top 6.

However - £23.6m being 14th highest wage bill and £35.9m being 7th highest is frightening!! When Mel was going mad overpaying our wage bill was £45m so not much more. Just shows we’ve got it all on to compete when we do get back to the championship. Hopefully being leaner with a couple of astute signings, clever use of loan market and a couple of academy players able to make the step up at the right time will give us a chance.

"Heavily backed" by a midtable budget?

Top end midtable/top 6 I reckon backing I reckon certainly considerably more backing than Warne would get next season in the championship. Their budget will be more than Ipswich, and even the baggies, Cov, Preston the majority of the teams fighting for that 5th and 6th spot. Look at the signings they’ve made. Philogene £5m+, Aaron Connolly who won’t be on cheap wages either, Delap will come with a hefty wage contribution. He’s done a solid job at Hull but no more.

FWIW I didn’t agree with letting him go and i liked what he was trying to build, but I also don’t get those (mainly on Twitter) who whenever Hull win point Rosenior effectively saying “this is what we could’ve won” and use it as another stick to beat Warne with. There are no guarantees we’d have fared any better under Liam, I actually don’t think we would’ve fared any better.

Half the ground is empty until 5 to 3 anyway!

I like goal music but I wish they'd tailor it to the scoring player. Can't be difficult in this digital age.

True on both counts. They started doing it briefly with Chris Martin didn’t they playing Coldplay when he scored, though it quickly changed into some weird dance version of Paradise.

Blackpool play the same style as a former DCFC manager, Looks pretty but not very effective in the final 3rd, Had the lions share, Had more shots at goal but couldn't score.

Now how did HCFC do on Friday 😁

Potentially they look like they’ve blown playoffs despite being very heavily backed by their owners. Was thinking exactly the same about Blackpool.

  17. No issue with the goal music but pre match really needs sorting out, doesn’t build any atmosphere at all. They’ve started playing hey jude after wins which although loads of clubs do it really works well, need get some sort of anthem pre match.

  18. What a win!! What an atmosphere- not Bolton but still good. I was buzzing post game and still am today with the win and the results going in our favour. Must say yesterday a few beers in i thought it was decisive and we’re definitely going up. On reflection there is still some potential squeaky bum time yet. Bolton could be 3 points behind by the time we play Pompey. A loss to Pompey then Bolton have the opportunity to draw level with us if they beat Bristol before we play again. That would really put the pressure on.

But I’m convinced we’ll get over the line. Last 2 home performances are evidence we’re shithousing our way to the finish line and I don’t care at all. At this stage it’s all about getting results however you get them, and I think Warne has tactically got the better of Evatt and Critchley in the last 2 home games. For all Blackpool’s play they didn’t look like scoring and we nullified their threats. I have no issue with us playing like this at this stage of the season especially with our injuries, challenge will be if we’re midtable in the championship playing like this every week then pressure would rightfully mount on Warne if not next season then definitely the season after.

Right now though let’s just enjoy the results and being in a promotion race!!

For once I'd like us to avoid being Melchester Rovers in the days when Roy got fat and addicted to painkillers.

For once it would be really nice to have it wrapped up well in advance of time without killing off fans of a nervous disposition.

Just once in my lifetime! It's not much to ask!

True it’s not much to ask but this lot ain’t hearing you and it ain’t happening so strap yourself in and brace yourself. Our run in really should come with a health warning. In fact they should warn you as a kid when signing up for the junior rams or whatever that “Supporting Derby County seriously damages your health”

  20. For balance, the only good spell we had in the game was the 15 minutes right up until their goal when we could’ve scored 3, that was the only time we were moving the ball quickly and we looked a threat, Hourihane was the stand out player in this period of the game orchestrating it. He was poor second half but there were also players just as bad.

  21. We head into the last round of fixtures, Pompey already champions and having a party at Lincoln who get the win they need to make the playoffs. We’re 2nd on 88pts, posh and Bolton on 87pts, we have a superior goal difference.

Half time and we’re 0-1 down following a really nervy performance, fans in full voice trying to urge the team on but becoming nervous and agitated with the performance. But news comes through from London Road that it’s 1-1 and despite being behind we’re still going up.

Into the second half and the fans find their voice again the team up their performance levels but the keeper is having a blinder, we equalise on 65 minutes, it’s still 1-1 at London Road. Time ticks onto 85 mins we’ve missed countless chances as Carlisle are hanging on trying to salvage something from a difficult season but then groans around the stadium, Bolton have scored and lead Posh 2-1, Bolton are going up. In the same moment a misplaced pass from Hourihane puts a Carlisle striker through on goal it’s curtains for our auto chances he rounds Wildsmith and shoots it’s going but who else but Cash gets there on the line to keep it out, the crowd roars again, we’re due a chunk of stoppage time due to Carlisle’s time wasting tactics, the board goes up, it’s 8 mins, the crowd roars again. It’s finished at London Road, Bolton have won. They think they’re up but they’re nervously waiting for our game to finish. 95 mins. We’ve thrown everything at Carlisle but the ball just won’t go in. We get a throw on the right hand side, Nelson for once goes short to Bird, he cuts inside plays the ball to the edge of the box Hourihane let’s the ball come across him evading the Carlisle player onto his left foot and with perfect technique he drills it into the bottom corner from 20 yards!!!

Pandefuckingmonium ensues!! We’re up and the much maligned Hourihane has bookended his Derby career by scoring the first goal of the new era post administration and the goal to take us back to the Championship.

    There are 3 frustrations really....

    - our once rock-solid defence with umpty-three consecutive clean sheets seems a thing of distant memory.

    - our manager repeating often made mistakes ie a midfield 2 including Hourihane

    - our misfortune with injuries and because we haven't blooded any academy players how exposed the squad is

Didn’t we have 3 clean sheets out of the last 4 before yesterday?

Our best period of the game in the first half Hourihane was orchestrating it. Not really sure what other midfield he could’ve picked with the injury situation. The injury situation definitely isn’t helping - it’s horrific.

Everyone bangs on about not blooding youngsters. Maybe as bucko said they’ve not taken the opportunity. I’ve seen people think Cybulski should’ve been given a run - he’s now playing non-league. You can also play youngsters too early e.g Whittaker.

We weren’t on it yesterday but still could’ve won on chances. We move on and hope for performances like against Vale Bristol and Reading where we were excellent and played nice football in those games
