3.0 at PP v Arsenal, goals from Wanchope x2 and a deft chip from Sturridge, the Old Trafford win when Christie scored with his left foot, the win at Norwich under Lampard, the win at Everton when Duncan Ferguson was sent off for elbowing Wanchope, any game v Leeds

Loved the fact the DET pull out had a picture of Seaman on the front swearing at the jeering he was getting from the pride park faithful, with “No David, it was 3” as the headline 🤣

I’d take Appleby involvement back in a heartbeat. Thought they were a good thing for us the first time and like what he had to say in the interview during admin. Plus he is in the business of finding serious sports investment now and has the contacts and skills to do something great. That being said, I think this should only be in partnership with Clowes, who I believe has a solid vision of how he can grow the club sensibly.

Agree with all that. Came across as a decent bloke and through glick tried to do a lot to improve the matchday experience too. And, like Clowes, came across as sensible spenders too.

Here are the key reasons why relying heavily on free agents and loans poses risks for a League One club aspiring to play in the Championship:

    1. Lack of stability and continuity: Loan players are only temporary additions and may not develop the same commitment and understanding with teammates as permanent signings.

    2. Unsustainable finances: The Championship has nearly £1.4bn worth of debt falling due within 12 months, with debt levels that are unsustainable. Relying on loans and free agents is a short-term solution that can lead to financial troubles.

    3. Weaker squad quality: Loan players are often young prospects or fringe players from bigger clubs, while free agents may be available for a reason. Assembling a competitive Championship squad this way is challenging. Free agents are often released by their previous clubs due to injury concerns, disciplinary issues, or a lack of quality. Loan players may not have the experience or ability to make an immediate impact in the Championship.

    4. Injury and suspension risk: With a smaller squad, any injuries or suspensions can leave the team short-handed, especially if loan players are recalled early.

    5. Difficulty complying with EFL regulations: The EFL has rules around squad sizes and composition that may be difficult to meet with a loan and free agent heavy approach.

    6. Relegation risk: Without a strong core of permanent signings, the promoted club is more likely to struggle and get relegated back to League One.

    7. Compliance issues: EFL rules around squad composition and size may be harder to meet for a promoted club using many loans and free agents. Penalties could follow.

    8. Difficulty integrating new players: With many temporary signings, the team will have less time to develop chemistry and understanding on the pitch. Continuity is key for a newly promoted side.

In summary, while loans and free agents can supplement a squad, a newly promoted Championship club needs a solid foundation of permanent signings to have the best chance of survival and establishing itself in the division. Relying too heavily on temporary solutions is a high-risk strategy.

Can tell this is a chat gpt effort; spoken by a computer without football fan context.

frees aren’t the barrel scrapings they once were since covid made the financial bubble burst in the EFL, as we’ve seen. And loans, done well, can make the difference at an affordable rate (hello ebou Adams). Just can’t be too solely reliant else you end up like a forest team rebuilding scenario.

  4. I know it’s sentiment driven and his wages currently would be mental, but anyone think there’s a slither of hope of a return of Mr Will Hughes? On paper it’s not gonna happen, but watching bird yesterday, we need a technician around the athleticism to unlock things and bird would have been perfect in the champ and sorely missed. He was feisty and a trier and is it too ambitious to hope he’d want a homecoming with charitably low wages?

  5. Hey all, looking for a bit of parking advice please for Saturday. I normally park on ascot drive but the daughter has a match at the racecourse till gone 11:30am, so won’t have time for heading to my usual spot and getting to the ground (thanks a lot kick off change). Where’s a decent shout to park on that side of the a52 (can park up pre daughters match) or am I best just having a fair walk from the racecourse? Didn’t know if chad had any permit shenanigans like London road does now too. Ta

  6. Could very easily be making this up, but I have it in my head that after the chilis and Rod Stewart, it was known that these weren’t especially lucrative ventures once everyone’s had a slice. Would make sense to me why they haven’t bothered since. Didn’t we do monster trucks at one point too?

  7. Don’t think Warne will get the credit he deserves for this one, but was a bit of a masterclass imo (and huge credit to the players for executing). Wasn’t a vintage performance but you could see at every turn the players letting the least threatening player have the ball and talking and pointing to each other to get into position and be organised, instead of a relentless closing down approach that we don’t have in us at this point of questionable fitness and squad depth. Wash and NML, especially, clearly not fully fit and we played accordingly, with another tough test on Tuesday. Not sexy, but exactly what we needed at this point of proceedings. 5 more cup finals, and no doubt more twists and turns, but we’ve got a chance.

Two students sit a set on exams on a subject, rule is the one with the most A+'s (goals) passes with all other efforts (chances) chucked away - equal both fail.

Student A gets A+ B C D (and passes), student B gets A A B C (and fails). Was A clearly the better student, or lucky to have passed?

The trains pass at 11:42 and they were lucky if they left on time. Easy.

  9. Think we’ve generally played well so far; at least putting the shift in and look interested and looks like there’s space enough in their back line to make further chances. First time I’ve seen Adams and on this showing he could be the difference between promotion or not.

Agree that this refs likely to shaft us though. Other than the soft bird free kick near the end, they’re getting soft free kicks and we’re getting play on for anything obvious. Most of Adams fouls haven’t been fouls at all.

  10. If that’s playing to Warne’s vision (or something to that effect that he said) I don’t think anyone would have a long term beef if we saw more of that. The press was brilliant first half and looked dangerous at every attack, although frustratingly wasteful. Need to see that and the mettle again on a game by game basis.

Some great performances (Cashin, Nelson, Nyambe and many more) but credit to Hourihane; noticed the last few games him really consistently break a gut to get back and break things up, even more difficult on an early yellow. He’s had flack for being a passenger, and it might have largely gone unnoticed, but was a big part of us regularly turning over the ball today.

    Same again please.

  11. Ref spoiling the game currently; a lot of those challenges were just fouls, if that. Be an 5 side game by the end at this rate, and it’s not been a dirty game, just a quick one.

Our press has been brilliant, just a shame we don’t have the second goal that performance deserves.

  12. What a punch to the gut seeing the other thread reference b4 then finding this post off the back of it. I'm speechless. For someone I've never met, I'm left so empty. Feel like I've known him for ever however; must be at least 15 years+ since the old DET days when I was a lot more active and we all first began to understand and love b4. He really was the best of us with his unwaivering support (except his irrational hatred of the pink kit, obvs) and eternal blind optimism. What a loss to this forum, the club and those he leaves behind. Raise your flanges and scraves in tribute vs Bristol Rovers. Bless you and thank you b4.

  13. Shame she had to, but good for her for calling out that moron. Over the months he’s perfectly embodied the entitled element of our fan base who seemingly blanked out that we nearly went bust and that this isn’t football manager. Confidently stating Clowes should sell up if he doesn’t have the ambition required of a club our size and other troll-tastic quips only possible if you’ve swapped your brain for excrement. And if that’s really your opinion (and we’re entitled to not not all agree), but then stand by your convictions, instead of deleting when called out. Says it all really.

And Ed isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, fine, but he gets far more stick than he deserves and I hope he’s in a place to feel he can come back soon.

  14. Honestly don’t think it’ll ever get beaten; it was the perfect storm. But there was immense gallows humour along the way; pretending we scored a goal and just being past the point of caring/worrying and just having a nice day out. Working in leicester,  was explaining the pretending to score thing to a load of leicester fans who I don’t think actually believed me that eventually we’d get most the ground up on their feet pretending we’d scored a goal. Mental.

My hazy memory says it could have been all different if it wasn’t for a great Jo hart save denying us a deserved equaliser at Man City early doors in the season.

Defiantly one more in, potentially 2 depending on availability. Cashin and Bird both look set to stay. 1 more Tyrese/Tyreece signing and it’s an exciting squad with technical ability and a mix of youth and experience

Thanks Big Trav. Any talk of either of them signing contract extensions if not being sold?

    31 year old fullback?

Just spitballing; if we convert to 4 at the back, we don’t have a decent conventional right back currently. Pboro fans all said ward was a better wing back and rubbish at right back. Same for kane probably.
