  1. Weirdly enough Rooney is probably the closest player we have in style to Bird-can carry the ball but also pick a good pass.

Smith is more of the runner/enforcer type and you’d have to worry about not having an anchor in the middle. Sibley should be no where near that holding midfield role. He’s too volatile and will leave too many gaps.

Assuming no ins today though I would expect Smith in midfield and Rooney at right back for the rest of the season.

Crazy isn’t it going init the last 2 days of the window with no one linked! Quite nice after the money we’ve spent and failed, obviously would like a striker but if we get luck with injuries we will be fine

McGoldrick injured tonight…not sure we’ve got that luck ?

  3. When Rosenior was appointed didn’t the club make clear in announcements that he was in charge for the interim until Clowes had chance to fully assess the team/league/management etc.

Seems to me that he used that time wisely to look into the type of manager needed and how possible it would be. Not sure bringing anyone in earlier would have been a good move, the appointment of Warne dealt with all our weaknesses at this level-fitness, the inability to adapt to lower league football in both attack and defence and the all round ability to stick a ball between two sticks and a net.

  4. Johnny Russell at this level would be absolutely lethal. Him and NML would rip this division apart.

Not sure right now Mount or Tomori would play well in this team. They were very good players in a footballing team but no chance they could stand up to some of the bruisers we’ve faced this season.

In fairness, wasn’t expecting 9 points from the last 3 games ??

Shame we can’t seem to close too much on this above though

Tbf we win our game in hand then we are 8 points at most behind 2nd. Beat Ipswich, sheff Weds and Plymouth and that’s another 3 off the total.

We manage that and we only need 5 more points than Plymouth or Sheff Weds and 1 more point than Ipswich if the top two fall away. It doesn’t seem impossible when we’ve won 6 on the bounce

  6. The DT alluded this week that Flint only comes in if one goes out.

Think it’s likely a domino effect, Davies leaves for a longer contract (can’t see us offering him more than another year) and Flint takes his place on the bench/third choice.

We’d have Rooney and Stearman after that so would imagine that would see us until the end of the season.

Another day, another ref Forsyth gets a red. We take decisions that go for us for granted but moan a lot about stuff that doesn’t go our way. Nature of being a biased football fan.

Counter point- are we all so used to higher league refs being strict and playing to the letter of the law rather than the reading the game?

We all expected the standard of refs to go down when we got relegated, it just happens to have worked in our favour.

IMO refs at this level seem to give the defending team the benefit of the doubt on 50/50 decisions whereas at higher levels it seems to be in favour of the attacking team.

  8. Best goalkeepers are the ones that never get discussed.

He’s going about his work as if he’s been at the club years and I can’t particularly think of an occasion where he could be faulted for a goal. Best part is he seems to be happy and content, there’s no clamouring for a big move or a new contract.

not a chance we could replace him, even if we had £5 million to spend on a keeper currently.

  9. Going with 14 points, 4 wins and 2 draws.

We haven’t really looked like being beaten and draws prevent the gap opening from the teams above us. Ipswich tend to have a second half of the season fall away and injuries/loan recalls could absolutely knock Plymouth down a few pegs.

We seem to be hitting form at the right time and still think top two is possible.

Collins and Davies missing with “minor injuries”, Knight and Barkhuizen start, NML on the bench. 4-3-3 with Knight in midfield with Bird and Hourihane, or do people think he will play as a striking partner with McGoldrick??

Warne been reading the same tactics guide as B4? ?

Think it will likely be Barks playing behind McGoldrick though

Well that was interesting. Four penalties conceded in the last two games with three missed/saved.

    Maybe our luck is changing

With the centre backs left exposed by the system I'd like to see some quality injected there

Hopefully the missing link with Bielik, will slot into a back three or midfield three and protect that back line.

Maybe Rooney or Smith would be a decent shout in the meantime in place of Chester.

  12. Pleasing that Warne's comments are working for the team. He made a point that the team should set up to feed whoever is in the number 9 role.

Doesn't matter whether its Osula, Collins, Dobbin or someone else they know they will be fed their chances. Nice to see a youngster who knew how the take the chances.

  13. Not sure I buy into this whole Oduroh is not ready talk. Having seen his development over the last few appearances I'm increasingly confident he is ready.

We're in a league where on paper our squad is exceptional compared to most teams and you would think this team could hold its own in the championship. Because of that the pros of training up and giving experience to him outweigh the cons of a slightly weaker position.

This is the first time for a long time we've had a true out and out winger on the right with NML. That's always going to make it tricky for the full back to support in attack. The link up between Dobbin (more of a wide forward) and Oduroh seems to play to his strengths.
