  1. We’ve got probably the best facilities in the league to push players to their physical limits, makes sense for our style to be based on fitness and being able to outrun, outmuscle and generally bully teams.

The kind of football we like looks great, but against teams with 10 men behind the ball it just doesn’t work (as we saw last season).

Press high up the pitch and the opposing team won’t have the time to sit behind the ball all game. Our strongest performances last year were from simply bulldozing the opposition into making mistakes.

I don’t think we’ll spend over a million pounds this summer. Just from rumours I’ve heard it sounds like free/ super cheap players only

Likely to see much movement now then for those remaining 4 spots or is it a case of picking up the cheap players later in the off season?

You’re correct, Warne said as much himself yesterday. Said Wilson and Ward are capable of playing both sides and Foz could at a pinch but not the way Warne wants (no mention of Sibley) so he’s happy going into the season with 3 quality options at wing back rather than 4 average ones (or words to that effect).

Think both Ward and Elder are fairly consistent and injury free aren’t they?

Probably a case that Warne expects them both to play most if not all games and Wilson would be more than sufficient cover/rotation for either.

Not sure we can expect to have 2 first team quality players for every position.

We won't be signing 3 permanent players AND 5 on loan. It goes against everything Warne has said about having a relatively small squad (20-22)

I think you've got the right positions. Warne spoke of 4, maybe 5, a CB, a WB and some attackers prior to Wilson signing. That leaves a CB and some attackers. Your AM is one of Warne's attackers, which he has previously referred to as a 10.

I disagree with your options. Collins due to financial cost, Dack due to injury record, and Bernard as he's a bit suspect defensively.

    My suggestions, in rank order:
CB - Michael Rose (free), Ross Sykes (Union SG, low fee), Joel Latibeaudiere (free, but very unlikely),
AM/SS - Andy Moran (Brighton, loan)
CF - Aaron Pressley (Brentford, free with sell-on), Tyler Walker (free), Matt Godden (Coventry, free with promotion bonus), George Hirst (Leicester), Freddie Ladapo (Ipswich), Sam Smith (free)

I think it was pre Sonny Bradley wasn’t it? So three more signings now for the attacking positions.

plus any he deems needed for midfield when Knight leaves and if Bird/Sibbo go.

Warne’s comments from last week’s video were clearly on the back of a deal 95% done.

Warne seems to have a little trick of teasing news before it comes out.

How many times did he say we were ‘close’ to signings knowing damn well they had already signed (was it Ward or Vickers that had already completed their first interview weeks before their reveal?).

Even in his interview this week where he said he doesn’t expect to see Knight in the squad it may have been the price had already been agreed.

    4-5 away !!!

Why do i think the signing fun still has a lpt more to give ??

    coyr!!

Big giveaway was Washington was described for what he will add to the squad not just the outside 11.

Biggest indication yet that we have a ‘bigger’ name lined up as our primary striker.

Looks like we are going into the season with 4 CB to battle for 3 spots-Fozzy,Cashin,Nelson and Bradley and assuming Rooney is back up from them.

Collins is so frustrating. In the box? Great. Gets involved in the build up play? Yikes. Can we carry him and not have him getting involved too much outside the box?

We’re so used to a formation that focuses on the strikers ability to bring other players in. But I think Warne likes a Striker that will just run and put the ball in the net.

if he doesn’t nothing all game but can be there to put a ball in a net that’s good enough

    Same for Sibley perhaps?

Sibley was listed on the bench though isn’t he looking at the website?

Edit: Was listed on the bench, now removed and only 10 bench players. Point still stands.

  9. Not sure why everyone thinks Washington has been signed to solve our goal problems.

He’s said in his interview his role is to get behind and stretch defenses, he even admits goal scoring is something he is working on.

if he can see it, I’m sure Warne is going to be well aware is not going to be our 20 goal striker. Given we’ve spent nothing on fees so far, and will likely get a decent amount in for Knight, I’m pretty certain PW has a goal scoring striker in mind who will likely cost a decent fee.

Certainly wouldn't say outrageous. It's a good signing and it's what we needed, but our fans are overhyping him a bit too much.

He’s achieved something not a single player can say they have done in a Derby shirt for a long time-promotion (and promotion to the Premier League too for good measure).

if this isn’t the kind of signing we should be excited about we’ll never be happy

  11. The general consensus with Warne’s preferred formation is that we won’t have wingers (given we will play with wingbacks).

No way NML drops away from the squad after last season. Perhaps we’ll see NML and Barks play an advanced role, if so expect a dozen goals between them this year at least but I’d put a fiver on NML hitting double figures.
