We're a million miles away from these decisions in reality. Rosenior, to me, seemed very serious, very tactical, very logical. Not very warm. But a decent man. PW comes across as very honest, aware of his limitations and if I was DC, I'd warm to him. And that's prob what happened. When you're the man putting your money in, you go with your gut and from the limited bit I see of PW, I get it. PW is more proven, more established as a manager and I totally understand why DC went with him.
Let's be honest, with PW, you get what you see. The daft hat, the honest silliness - he's a properly decent bloke. I'd hire him, as a football manager, in a heart beat. I wouldn't hire him as a tactical genius, a glory signing nor a fan appeaser but as a manager for a club like ours, in the sh*t like us, he'd be my choice. If it doesn't work, it's only bad luck and time that worked against him. I think DC will give him years. And rightly so.
Our Nigel was 100% Derby. And I love that. Call him all ya want but that man wanted nothing but the best for us. I hope PW gets the chance to become that. He wants that - you can see it in every interview - he knows he could become a hero for us. He wants to create a legacy. For me, that counts.

I don't think 'pull' exists other than $$$$. History shows us that Tomori, Mount, etc cost absolute fortunes to get in so I really don't think there is such a thing as 'pull' per se. I think that in a scenario where a player choses club X or club Y the style of play, manager personality, club size, etc all comes into play so when we hear Mount saying that Frank was the reason, etc then yeah - that reason + £2m loan fee or whatever it was!
PW is clearly a players-manager whereas some managers (E.G. Rafa) are very much about systems, etc so will clearly attract certain types of players. I'd argue the types (honest, hard working) of players that PW would attract are the types that we need for the next few seasons - i.e. I'd rather we didn't sign trouble-makers/those that only sign for the money, etc for the long term benefit of the club.
Personally I think we're in good hands and what we're seeing now is the financial restrictions really biting. However, I will caveat that with the fact that there are players in the squad with some pedigree who don't appear to be playing to their previous levels (Collins, Hourihane, etc) but again, perhaps there's a reason why they're here in L1 on relatively low wages...

He's a target man who can't hold the ball up or win headers. He's decent in the box and a surprisingly good finisher, but we are awful at getting the ball into the box. He doesn't press well, and when he does he ends up woefully out of position. I can't imagine him being here next season.

Yep, I met him in the early 2000's and he really didn't feel much affinity with the club which was a real surprise to me. He felt Halifax and Leeds were more his clubs. He was a teeny bit cocky at the time (or perhaps I was just smarting that he didn't love Derby!) so perhaps he rubbed folk up the wrong way?
He was an agent of some sort then and was heavily involved in the Baino deal iirc so I suspect he was doing ok for income at that point. It's a shame to learn he's doing this type of job at his age.

Of course you’re right and in the end it is a market place but the gamble, by the time you get to the bottom end of the championship and then league one, is a bit skewed. When you bet your house on a 100:1 outsider it might still be gambling but it’s ill considered in any language. We absolutely must get tougher with the wages/turnover rules.

Ordinary, competent, hard working individuals - that happen to be in the top, say, 1000 best athletes at their sport in the country. I'm not saying it's right but they're still top athletes in a team sport that has a lot of money swirling around.
Of course, I agree that the money distribution within the sport is obscene but that's a cultural thing - as consumers, we spend and they earn. Simple as that.
Fundamentally, the £££ jump from EFL to Premiership is so, so big and appealing that many clubs are/were gambling - putting millions on black/red in the hope to make many more. And that's still true if we really are paying £500k pa in wages for a player in League 1 - obviously unsustainable but it's a smaller bet than Mel made... That guy went big... and then went home.
Equally, it's a gamble to invest in youth - I'd say it's been pretty much a disaster (vs investment) in that we lost the likes of Delap and Kaide Gordon for pennies when clearly we were aiming to get big money for those types of highly promising youngsters that would cover the costs of the Academy, supply the first team AND generate funds for first-team signings. That was the vision and it didn't pan out.
Don't get me wrong - the likes of Bird, Knight, Sibs, etc are fantastic but I don't think they're quite at the level that was envisioned. There's a reason they're still here and Delap isn't. However, the silver lining is that we have a number of decent L1/Champ level players from the Academy which is probably the only saving grace of the MM era.
It's all a gamble... or a calculated risk depending on your perspective.

I dunno. There's more charitable men than me on this forum then, as I can't help but resent the glaringly obvious lack of affinity he has for a club that's paid him big dollar through two prolonged sets of rehab, then let him wander off to chase a WC dream. I don't expect him to stay given his lofty ambitions, but for the last few months he's been talking like he's already left.
I understand his aims, so please resist the urge to sermonise me, but if an employer looks out for me and even when simply contracted, some have, then some gratitude at least would not go amiss, if loyalty is too much of a stretch. Gimme a Fozzy over his ilk any day.

Not sure how we lost this one. With my old (TBE era) beer goggles on with a romantic view of 3-5-2 i hoped/expected more... control. For me, Hourihane was really poor - his game is meant to be set pieces and being steady - he did neither. Really poor IMO.Didn't do any of the things he should bring.
Cashin was excellent. Some great passes and played like we wish we could as fans. Something about him connects - I hope/think he loves it / us. Just feel he has that extra 10%.
Some utterly stupid decisions by the ref.. and Stearman - robbed.
I wondered how PW would handle it and I have to be honest, much better than I would have. Really, really like the guy. I hope being a decent, bright person is enough to drive us on. His interview was so much better than mine wouldv'e been - fair play.
I know we all think we have a decent L1 team but based on what we've seen, I'm not sure we do. I think we've kidded ourselves into thinking 'we're DCFC - Prem in waiting, etc, etc' and the reality is that we've gathered some decent but flawed characters and we live in hope that they believe in us. Based on today, I see why some of them are with us at this moment.
Anyway, big plus is that I believe in PW more than any manager for a long, long time and that's a big positive.
