BBC's player of the match for Aberdeen Vs Celtic
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62281500
There was always a good keeper in there/ Scotland is easy innit (delete as appropriate)

Really reminds me of chatting someone about what it was like being a Celtic fan. You're everone else's big game, everone else's twice a year event (sometimes 3 in the Scottish league in case anyone is being picky)
Means every week, you either get some fans celebrating like they've gone the league because they took points off you, or being salty because they'd geared themselves up for this big event, convinced themselves they had a shot, then lost to a bigger, better side. Personally I'm loving it already

CDM I'd agree ideally we'd have extra cover, but personally I'd probably be looking for someone who offeres somthing else too to justify the extra numbers. Whether they're between the U21s and seniors, whether it versitility (like Smith) or whether they're good to have around the club (like Stearman)

BBC has confirmed they are paying a substantial chunk of his wages.. in other words we are paying for him to play for someone else, which makes no sense at all.
Rather pay a small portion of his wage playing for someone else than pay all of his wages to play for no one at all

The other thing that he risks a little is that clubs essentially forget about him. He's not a player with that big a profile and for most of his career his football has been split between league 1 and the bottom end of the championship. The longer this draws out, the longer he hasn't trained and the more likely anyone who would be interested has moved on largely because he's not an irreplaceable target.
I mean look at someone like Wisdom who is still without a club and he conducted himself far better and had a higher profile.
Took Tom Huddleston 12months to get another club didn't it (and Hull wouldn't have got him in if he wasn't a former player I reckon)? And he has a considerable profile

Byrne has been poorly advised at his age, had he knocked on Rosenior’s door and said look, I really would like to leave if possible, I have no doubts he would have been given the go ahead to find a new club.
Given his age and contract, you can’t imagine we would have wanted silly money for him, meanwhile he would continue to be paid, training.
As a professional footballer, if no club was to show any interest, he would have the chance to knuckle down and show his heads now here for the season. It’s possible, look at Harry Kane, albeit slightly different situation.
What Byrne has done is burnt his bridges, there is no way he would be accepted back into the team either by Rosenior or the fans, potentially finds himself sitting out for a season now until this is all sorted out.
Also think it has publicly damaged his reputation somewhat, when signing players clubs will run the background checks, what’s he like, is he professional, trains hard, on time…..now he’s seen as a player trying to find loopholes to jump ship when the going gets tough. That’s not a character trait you want in the dressing room.
But on the upside, he's just been compared to Harry Kane, silver lining

No, the Administrators for Wigan wanted his wages off the books. He didn't tear up his contract.
Exactly, I believe we paid a fee? I very small fee (as we know if the drill for a team in aministration who need those wages off the books) but an agreed fe non the less

There’s any even bigger issue, that I suspect many fans have yet to realise the true magnitude of…
WhoScored detailed match stats only go down to the championship, so we’re out of scope this season ?. How will we argue about who’s the better winger when we can’t compare their average crosses per minute played? How will we know who’s the best midfielder when we can’t cross reference their pass completion stats to their key passes per 90 minutes? We might have to actually watch the games ?
Nooo don't tell me that, I'm already geting ridiculus stat withdrawals
Came to a head last week when I told the Mrs that, despite her completing more chores than me, I'm completing more Key-chores/90mins

But if Bremen are paying development compensation, not a transfer fee, that assumes he was not under contract. If the same is true for Byrne then he is available on a free transfer.
Agreed, that's why it felt pointed that we opened with "Bremen have accepted their transfer of Lee Buchanan was not a free transfer"
I suspect we accepted "only" that compensation in exchange for them not counting it as a free transfer and therefore not setting the precidence for the Byrne as being a free transfer -
Wording of the club statement felt very pointed towards the Byrne situation didn't it?

Loan to the championship makes perfect sense, seems ideal in that sense
The shame is Bham just doesn't feel like the best one for his career, bit of a basket case atm and could well struggle again (I suspect they will).
Does he have another year on his contract after this? Just so I know how much we have to care about his career/ value beyond this
-
No point us having him until at least Jan anyway. He's played no football and he's off to the world Cup in November when the championship pauses but we don't

Anyone know how much it costs/team makes from a shirt sponsor? Do they pay one off fees or constant stream of cash throughout the season?
I'm no @The Baronbut my impression is its paid in before the season (a 2 year deal would be 2 payments etc) in time to spend on players normally, but not 100% on that.
Apparently if you're happy with a gambline sponsor, even "lower" prem teams are looking like £5-6million, so we won't be looking at much really. If you don't want a gambling sponsor, again a "lower" prem team would be looking not much over £1million, so we'd do very well to get half of that if we don't want gambling companies

I think you have to patient for loans from Premier League clubs.......they tend to hang on to their players until the end of the window to see what they have unless those players have been earmarked for definite loans.
Agreed, they have a period very early on where lots of loans go through (which were in the offing months before, planned well in advance to maximise development) then a period after pre-season when the players the wanted to keep around for pre-season to have a look at then get sent out
Ironically Forest have an excellent example of this with James Garner, they want him on loan again and are waiting for him, but Ten Hag made it clear he wanted to watch him in pre-season before he agreed to anything

I imagine the wages would be put in an escrow? The outcome of the tribunal would then determine what happens to that money.
1. Contract deemed valid - possibly fined for not turning up for work and the club reclaim it.
2. Contract deemed invalid - club reclaim the money anyway.Someone else will likely have a better understanding than me though.
That's what I was assuming too

I’ve seen Zander Clark, the former st Johnstone gk, is available on a free. Being a sporadic viewer of Scottish football I thought he was quite highly rated in SPL.
I’m sure Ben Foster hasn’t found a new club yet. I don’t think he’d be a bad signing for league 1 and could fit in the clubs wage structure. Surely Derby could be an attractive team for him if he his unable to get a team in the premier league, which he was originally looking for.
Last link I saw for Foster was Leeds. Would fit the fact he really wants to stay in the prem even if he's second choice, he's also talked about working with a younger keeper

Chester is a strong shout, as is Collins as the expectation of goals will fall on him I expect
There's obviously our other villains like MM and Byrne who will still be getting swipes if we struggle early.
Bielik potentially too, anyone you suspect doesn't want to be here will be battered if they don't meet expectations, and his expectations seem to be high despite injuries
Bobby Duncan signed for Real Balompedica

Anyone remember Micheal Johnson from Man City? Highly rated youngster, playing in the senior team, then lost interest and struggled with his mental health
Wouldn't surprise me if this is a similar one
Anyway, from our side, I suspect we've paid up part of his remaining contract and we all move on
