Buchanan got out his contract and had a move already lined up, but Byrne who is the wrong side of 30 has gambled on getting another contract elsewhere, so far without success. I wonder if he's now questioning his or his agent's decision making?

He would be the ideal player for us, but I don't think that it would work now, unfortunately.

I was wondering that, even if he pitched up somewhere today, he isn't going to be ready for the start of the season. This sort of thing could drag, then add on the time for a full back over 30 to get up to speed for (I assume) the championship....

From a purely nuteral football point of view, I would be a shame if he come out of this at a new team, struggles to get up to pace and cement a starting position (how many sides will still be looking for a starting RB in a weeks time?) and never gets back to the level he was with us last year

  2. Agreed testimonials really are more for us as fans and I'd hope a local charity more than anything. I want him to get one, but its for about 30% setiment and 70% my own entertainment. Who doesn't love a friendly with recent players coming back to play? In terms of his contribution etc, unfortuinatly as fans with short memories, this decision to go or stay could define it

If he stays: he stayed with us through thick and thin. He's played kinda out of position (CB) many times including when he had almost no squad due to administrative incompitence. Always gave his all on the pitch, even after a couple of major injuries. Stuck with us in League 1 to seee the cycle through

If he leaves: We stuck with him through 2 major injuries with very long recovery times . We handed him a new contract whilst out with major injury when we didn't know how he'd come back, that's a big risk when you look at the money sunk into George Thornes contract extension after his injury, that money was essentially a write off. Was on good money the whole way through and after that he wanders off to the championship soon as we're struggling and his contract is up so he can earn more

Not saying I agree with either of those views really, but I suspect he'll be viewed largly one way or the other

Current squad, moved Forsyth back to 'players linked' as there must be a reason he hasnt signed up yet. Also feel like Stretton should be in the youngsters section with us bringing in another striker.

Daft question, who's Sotana? I seem to have missed them, in my defence there's been plenty of names haha

  4. Interesting on the club site they specifically mentioned his versatility and the fact he can play full back too. I suspect in pre season until the squad is fully formed he'll get minutes there at very least

Versatility key at this level with a smaller bench, I'm coming around to this signing tbf

  5. My near-baseless speculation is we'll try and loan a young keeper to start as 1st choice

Basing that purely on us wanting a strong enough (at this level) keeper in JW to compete for the place and step in if they struggle and wanting a very experienced keeper in the building for them to learn from (who's also good enough to temporarily step up to 2nd choice if they get recalled suddenly on Jan 1st)

  6. Don't get me wrong, I'd have given LR a 2 year contract on my 1st day...but I'm a football fan not a multimillionaire business owner

LR seems excellently suited to this job, but he's definitely unproven we can't argue that, so make sense from that pov

Interesting they said about the whole structure, I suspect as some have mentioned, they're probably weighing up manager Vs DoF & head coach. Would LR even want to work under a DoF? Given he was part coach part analyst when he 1st joined he might want involment in transfers, so that would change everything

The thing about Bielik moving... Would you take a chance on him if you were (for example) a Championship side? Doubt he's on low wages at the moment. There are a lot of safer bets, given his injury record.

I'd love him to stick around this season. Think he could be great in League One.

That's why I think he'll go on loan, less risk for whichever team

Very disappointed by this and Buchanan I struggled to work out why Bryne didn’t play some games at the end of the season to be replaced at right back by either knight or Ebosele, maybe this had something to do with it.

if we hold the registration then surely we have to be compensated to our agreement from whoever takes them on as players and the EFL and the FA has to back us up and I would like to know the position of the PFA as well because they can’t eat the cake from both ends.
I expect Stoke to sign Bryne as they have been mentioned several times with him - I suggest they don’t want to pay either

we definitely need a couple of players who can play right back as well as a left back in addition to needing the dependable Forsyth

I think you're right the registration is the crux of our argument, and like @angieram says the EFL are supporting us on this, they need to keep the sanctity of registrations in place otherwise the whole EFL business model goes out of the window

I think the EFL are arguing you can be employed by whoever, but if they don't hold your registration then you're not playing. As we've seen a couple of times with Barca, you can employ a player and just be waiting to register him, but he can't play until you have

I expect it'll be settled with a disappointing amount of compensation as no point keeping him around

After playing yesterday, you’d have to think he’s almost certain to renew his contract. That’s absolutely fantastic news in my opinion, in the right style of play he’s still capable of playing at the lower end of the Championship. League One should suit his agricultural style perfectly, so it’s amazing we’ve managed to persuade him to stay. That’s proper loyalty, you could learn a lesson from that Nathan and Lee. He will deserve a testimonial at some point this season in my view, to thank him for his long-standing service over the last 10 years.

Should be capable of returning to first choice LB in League One replacing Buchanan, the slower pace should suit him more.

Completely agree. Plus, having built a great atmosphere and rapport last year, the more senior players from that group we can keep around the better in my opinion

  10. Must admit I kinda just assumed KB would leave but, like Bird, doesnt seem to be linked with much

I thought he'd end up moving on loan, in a world Cup year his national manager has made it clear he wants to see him playing higher, but (without knowing what he's on) how many teams would match his wages on a longer contract given his injury history? Would they pay enough to cover what we owe, for the same reason? Not sure they would

  11. If there's one area we excelled last summer, it was picking up players let go by big clubs for our U23s with potential for 1st team. If we'd been allowed to offer Plange and Malcom proper contracts we'd have brought big money in from those (got some cash for Plange).

Hopefully, with our U23s bare and senior squad probably needing to not be too bloated at this level, it's something we can do successfully again
