Carnero reacted to Comrade 86 in Jason Knight
But, but, but he’s burnt out and due to drop through the leagues to ‘find his level’ ?

I know, the Man City deal had already been mentioned, just adding for balance.

Also the guy who convinced the Abu Dhabi group to buy Man City.
Works both ways.

Carnero reacted to richinspain in Rooney In!
I agree with you entirely. As I posted a moment ago, 94% of those who voted on here thought that appointing Rooney as permanent manager was a good decision at the time. 94%! It wasn't even close.
We all have doubts as to whether he is the man to take us forward. It certainly wouldn't be 94%in favour. I can't be bothered to look at the results of the latest poll. I was talking about hindsight and Mel's managerial appointments. ALL of his appointments have been largely agreed with at the time of making them. The last (and only) successful appointment since 1996 was Wee Billy. That turned out to be the dog's cojones as well.
Everyone has the right to beat Mel with a metaphorical stick, but don't use hindsight as the only excuse.

Carnero reacted to GenBr in Once a Ram... Not Always a Ram?
He did it because he already had a lot of abuse and a lot of crap from grown adults who professed to be Derby fans on social media. Quite frankly - putting his fingers in his ears is a very mild reaction from him and I admire his restraint. He isn't made of stone - just because the club gave him an opportunity doesn't mean he is obligated to just ignore the idiots in our fanbase.

Carnero reacted to angieram in Graeme Shinnie - Jack Stamps Player of the Season
I nearly didn't post the two tweets about player and young player of the season because I knew it would invite people to pour in with their criticisms. And it has.
But I thought it might make a change to start a thread where people might have something nice to say for a change. Apparently not.

Carnero reacted to Red_ram in Once a Ram... Not Always a Ram?
“Once a ram, always a ram” feels like a recent slogan of the social media generation. Also a bit of a way to live off glories of those gone on to do better (mount, tomori etc). Though the lampard crop especially seemed to have a good team spirit and stepping stone for young players that means there’s a bit of genuine affinity there. But some players leave on good terms, some on bad, some of indifferent. Always has been the way and always will be.
The Whittaker stuff is embarrassing though. A young lad who got chopped and changed a lot (with a lot of flak along the way), gets sold, scores first league goal for new club and celebrates with not especially controversial fingers to ears celebration. Derby fans lose their mind. Probably mainly as at the time it could have been fatal to our status, but a goal made out of our own incompetence. Petty and embarrassing. I’d have gloated more if I was him frankly.

Carnero reacted to GboroRam in I feel sorry people who work inside intu bit on food court
Going in through the out door? (not sexy slang).
I remember the story of Sebastian Coe at Royal Ascot trying to get in through the Royal entrance and giving the security stopping him the "do you know who I am? I'm Sebastian Coe", and security telling him, well, it'll not take you long to get round to the correct entrance then.

Carnero reacted to i-Ram in Which topic is most tiresome, boring and pointless??
The Beer thread. Old farts talking about Wizards Sleeve, Montezuma’s Revenge, Billy Wonka’s Chocolate Stout, some (no, loads of) Belgian crap, Sparky’s Old Faithful, Tree Bark Neck Oil, Maid Marian’s Minge Juice, etc., etc. And to prove they drink it they post pictures of half empty bottles. We all know they use it to clean the drains. Total waste of time. Just drink something decent fellas, and please leave the keyboard alone.
As for crappy watches, .......

Carnero reacted to richinspain in Yankee Doodle Derby
I really don't know what you can expect the club to say about ongoing takeover discussions. If you're specifically referring to the two failed takeovers, what could they say in public? We're having huge doubts about the prospective buyers, they seem like tyre kickers or even complete tools? They've announced prospective deals, and announced when they've fallen through. That's at least sufficient for me. Then again, I am a happy clapper.

Carnero reacted to hintonsboots in Yankee Doodle Derby
I would prefer the deal to be signed and sealed and have EFL approval before being announced to the fans. This will avoid 100’S of pages of speculation. The main thing is to get it completed on time to have a good pre season and transfer window ( if no embargo). Transfer activity will be delayed because of the Euros which will buy some more time.

Hindsight, a wonderful thing. Pity we can't have it before events happen.
Mac I - probably a harsh sacking, but background noises forced Mel's hand.
Clement - an excellent appointment on paper, doing a decent job, but no choice but to sack him according to rumours (no, I'm not privy to what they are).
Pearson - widely considered at the time as what the team needed. A stern hand to drag them over the promotion finishing line. Those in the know say that he had to go even ignoring his results.
Mac II - again a harsh sacking, but Mel pulled the trigger when he saw Rowett's availablility.
Rowett - did a good enough job to be poached, giving us a decent compensation.
Lampard - risky appointment, but ditto Rowett.
Cocu - again widely hailed as an excellent appointment. Unfortunately it didn't work out.
Rooney - risky appointment, but given a two year deal on the back of top two form.
Mel can be blamed for many things, but managerial appointments and subsequent changes are not one of them in my opinion. Player signings, again the vast majority were lauded when they happened. He backed his manager, probably egged on by CEOs who may or may not have had vested interest. Mel tried to fulfil his, and our, dreams. He probably ended up chasing the dragon. That he can be blamed for.

Every club will take advantage of this covid exception rule if they've got any sense.
