So we are fingers crossed hoping Rotherham don't get too many points and we scrape 4th bottom. Wasn't so long ago we had signed England's all-time leading goalscorer, looking at promotion and being a cash rich foreign play thing with a few even speculating if Rafa Benitez (of Real, Liverpool, Chelsea and Inter fame) could possibly be convinced to sign up for the project 😂😂😂
They do say its better to shoot for the stars and fail...but we are taking the biscuit.

Considering Rotherham seem to be our main rivals this season, how many of there players would you actually put in our team? 1 or 2 if that? There squads so bad they were even happy to take Jozefzoon of us.
Does this not suggest that we should at least be above Rotherham's level? does this not suggest that either the players aren't playing to there ability? or (more likely in my opinion) the coaches aren't getting the best out of them?

Half century for Madsen. He was the only one of the top 5 who hadn’t got any real runs, so good to see him looking his usual self at the crease, making the game look easy.

Or like Hull Leicester Blackburn Southampton (took them 2 seasons) City (yes they were down there).
If we go down we will be one of the favourites for promotion. We shouldn’t assume we’ll come straight back but we shouldn’t assume we’ll be down there for years either.
But we are not down yet.

Marshall is OK, and not really "the problem" with this team, but I wouldn't get carried away on him being awful or amazing.

I hate this take. Wigan got relegated because of a points deduction. Byrne and Marshall were also part of the Wigan team who went on that really good run after the new year. Part of the team that spanked Hull 8-0. Imo Byrne is our player of the season. He’s simultaneously our best defender and our best attacker. Not sure what your point is here.

All the angry reactions the original post has received, and people just saying 'no' as a comment.
This is a discussion forum. How it works is someone puts forward an idea, not necessarily one that they agree with, just to provoke discussion and debate.
The alternative is that we just errrr... dunno what..... make puns about cheese. Oh, we do that aswell.

Having been born just as we were having our glory years, I too fall into the category of growing up as a Rams fan in the 80's. Those were my glory years!
I may too have rose tinted glasses, and think that spending a couple of years in the third tier might be fun. But I was a teenager then, travelling to every away ground on the football special trains, standing on the popside for all home games. It was brilliant!
    But football moves on.
However, there is a generation of fans out there that have never really seen much success as Rams fans. Yes, we've flirted with success, we got to the promised land once only to become the laughing stock of the English game. We've had Wembley play off heartbreak. We're had Mac 1 and Mac 2. But overall it's been 20 odd years of underwhelming mediocrity.
Going down wouldn't be the end of the world.
For a start, we could begin to rid the club of the constant negativity and bad press. A year or two out of the headlines might do us some good. Everyone hates us now, so a reset wouldn't be a bad thing.
We'd still be in business despite what people say. We've been closer to going out of business before (I remember that as well) but we're still here, and still a big club. That will never change.
Win a few games, and the crowds would creep back up again. We might even start to attract the next generation of fans, because we can't be attracting many new ones at the moment!
Let the overpaid and over hyped players leave. Bring in some fresh hungry players that would see playing for Derby as a step up, rather than a pay-cheque.
So if we do go down, let's see it as an opportunity.
I'm worried that if we somehow stay up, we'll be in the same position again this time next year!

We have a defence where there's only one player really good in the air - Clarke. The midfield (no Bielik) hardly head a ball, and up front is the same. And you expect us to deal 'well' with teams like Mowbray sends out? Never gonna happen with this squad. We should have scored more than them. ala Mac, we had the chances.

No - the small element on here that seem to take a disproportionate delight in things going wrong for the club - whether that’s poor results that backup their view of the management or issues with the takeover that mean they can crow about how insightful they were. I don’t have any issue with people raising concerns, but people that take more pleasure in being proved right than in the overall good of the club are more than welcome to go forth and multiply.....

I’ve a vague hope that the (small) silver-lining of relegation might be that the doom-mongers might move on and we could return to the hardcore of supporters that genuinely want the best for the club - unfortunately I have a feeling they’ll just hang around like a bad smell repeatedly telling us that they told us it would all go wrong.....

That wasn’t my point. While he’s around we’re not going into administration and therefore we won’t go through league 1 into league 2 as some seem to think we will.
You can criticise his decisions and many have, but it’s easy to blame him. Hasn’t he just tried to help us compete in an unfair playing field?
FWIW I think he made huge mistakes but mostly in his first couple of seasons. Unfortunately the ridiculous FFP rules mean we’re still paying the price for those decisions 4 or 5 years later.

So who do you think is continuing to bankroll us? A club losing god knows how many million during the pandemic, and if his backing wasn’t there where would we be? 🤦🏻‍♂️

Wrote a post in the last days of Cocu’s reign that the problems at Derby were much more deep rooted than a change in management. That I felt the club as a whole needed to reach a rock bottom moment in which the players, staff, employees, fans and media collectively say enough is enough and reach a turning point. There’s too much disorganisation, misplaced loyalties, a lack of leadership from top to bottom. A change in management wasn’t going to disguise that, or at least not long term.
Got pelted for it at the time, it was actually the first of a few instances that put me off contributing as regularly truth be told. Anyway I kinda sat back and let it play out. I’ll admit I thought we may have turned the corner a few times, but because we hadn’t reached that rock bottom we were never too far from a poor result. In my opinion, sometimes even a good performance was enough to think we were too good to go down and made us stop looking over our shoulder.  It’s being delusional, and we’ve been delusional for a while, and that’s why we are seriously flirting with relegation.
To cut what could be a much much longer post short I’ll repeat what I said in the last days of Cocu, its not about relegation or survival it’s about saying enough is enough and dragging yourself out of the mess one way or another.

It’s never good to go down. But it won’t be the unmitigated disaster that some make out.

If the takeover doesn’t go through Mel won’t plunge us into administration. We’ll have less revenue but it isn’t the stark drop from premier league funding to championship, and whatever happens (providing things get vaguely back to normal ) our revenues will be higher next season than this season with fans back in stadiums and corporate facilities open again regardless of whether or not we are relegated. Only Sunderland could match or beat our revenues in league one, we would be a powerhouse at that level.
We are 137 years old. In that time we’ve spent 5 seasons in the third division. Someone may correct me but have we ever been in the bottom division?
It would’nt be easy necessarily as Leeds Forest and Sheff United and Wednesday can testify but we will find our level again which is a second division club as a minimum.
Hull sold their 2 best players plunged to relegation with a hopeless squad and owners who will no longer put any money in. They will be back in the championship at the first attempt. No reason why we can’t.
