Stumpings aren't in the "the spirit of cricket". Sri Lanka should be ashamed of themselves.

Watching the latest shambles of the England 50 over side currently 85/5 against a struggling Sri Lanka side
what can you expect when we’ve turned our domestic 50 over competition into a second XI knockabout and we hardly play any ODI matches in comparison to other sides
also of the eleven starting today’s game nobody is under the age of 30

You guys went to the trouble of necroing this thread 3 months after Magicman's last post. It's clearly working regardless of how hard they're trying.

We were woeful that year and should've been relegated. Phillip Cocu was in charge for just 11 games. There's no denial that it was a terrible start and I can't really defend Cocu on that front, but if it's the worst season you've seen in 40 years, it's 75% Rooney's fault.

Rooney achieved much more with fewer resources? Erm, no he didn’t.
Bielik’s return coincided with a purple patch and then under Rooney we presided over a 9 game losing run and nearly got relegated (and that is with a fit Kazim and minus Rooney himself which was like playing with 10 men).
Nobody is saying Cocu would have gotten us promoted.
But we finished midtable (60+ points) the season before and players like Bird, Knight and Sibley were all better under Cocu than they were under Rooney.
Name me one good game Rooney had after Covid. The guy was an embarrassment.
Cocu was here for 15 months. He had to deal with the Keogh fiasco, constant rumours of Rooney taking his job, Mel, Bielik’s injury, Rooney’s presence post Covid and the loss of key players because Mel was done. He walked into an impossible job.
His work at PSV will be more than anything Rooney achieves in his managerial career.

2014 wasn't it? One of my favourite ever games. The 5-0 is special, but it wasn't just that. This game was the culmination of a 5 year stint of the rivalry being particularly heated, fuelled primarily by Billy Davies. He still hasn't managed a single game of football since this match, nearly 10 years ago. That's how comprehensively we beat them, we ended Davies' career.

No issue at all that he left to be fair, I can imagine that that year or so was horribly draining and what he’s done since is completely up to him. And overall I think he did a decent job albeit the circumstances are not repeatable in any way so I’ve no idea whether it makes him a decent manager.
But the links between Kirchner, Cook, his agent and him can hardly be ignored and it is a huge slice of luck we didn’t end up too involved in that. Seems like Cook is in his pocket somewhat and thank god that is Birminghams issue.

The second half of the first season he was in charge ranks amongst the worst football and run of performances that I have seen in 50 years supporting the 🐏

100% undermined Cocu. His performances on the pitch near the end were awful.

More fool them.
I thought he was a mediocre manager at best whose wages helped to drain the club's finances even further at a time we could ill afford to do so.
Plus I feel he was always instrumental in the removal of cocu and undermined him as the manager in his own desire for management.
And he will always be the man who was in charge when we were relegated to league 1.
A massive mistake by Birmingham that won't them take long to regret I fear.

It will be very interesting to see how he gets on. It's difficult to appraise his managerial career so far due to the unique situations at both clubs. His win percentage stats are utter garbage, but the expectations at Derby and DC didn't really extend beyond "try not to finish bottom". Birmingham have sacked a guy who had them 6th and implied that Rooney will bring a more exciting and attacking brand of football. Even the Rooney fanboys won't be able to pass off a lower mid table finish as succeeding against impossible odds, although I'm certain they'll try.

DeForestation. I'm rubbish at years so I'll leave that for someone else. My memories, I missed most of the first half because I hadn't realised that it kicked off earlier than normal because of Sky 😫😫😫😫

Sorry to hear you feel like that. Shame that you've been put off posting, I always liked what you posted.
I think a lot of the problem these days is people find it hard to agree to disagree. The internet makes it easy to shout your opinion, and even easier to argue with someone about theirs. It brings people together in their little tribes, which then tends to make people dig their heels in as they have a group of people agreeing with them. It never used to be like that, when all we used to have was our mates in the pub, who would quickly reel each other in when they started talking rubbish.
We're all guilty of it. It's a shame if it makes people feel like they can't take part in discussions though. We are all Derby at the end of the day.

For the most part I agree, but you won't see anything change. Once people have made their minds up about something they are unlikely to change, so you'll see plenty more threads where a 2-1 away win is treated as a failure because it wasn't won in the correct manner with the correct players on the pitch.
I disagree with the idea that any of this nonsense should affect the players. They're paid to be professional and if they're negatively affected by some chants or things written on internet forums then they have no business in professional football.

Tranmere away, 1995? Not one from my conscious memory due to age, I’ve just seen it talked about a lot! Igor’s first game, promoted the same season. Imagine if forums were a thing then, the Jim Smith out threads would fill the first page.
