hes supposed to be a brilliant set piece taker and has a decent shot on him but have we really seen any of that?

You have to be watching to see this - maybe not often enough for you but he has goals and assists this season. The argument is not whether he can do it but other aspects of his game - like ability to effectively tackle and speed.

Your post is just ignorant when presented unqualified as it is.

Two students sit a set on exams on a subject, rule is the one with the most A+'s (goals) passes with all other efforts (chances) chucked away - equal both fail.

Student A gets A+ B C D (and passes), student B gets A A B C (and fails). Was A clearly the better student, or lucky to have passed?

There's a fatal fallacy with making this comparison. In your example the two students performances are independent of each other. In a football match one side's play directly affects the performance of the other team. The reason Bolton didn't score yesterday has much to do with our defending - when Wildsmith makes  a superb save its part of OUR good performance. You state in another post that Wildsmith  made "two worldies"  as though that is just luck rather than good performance. Those saves were not just "rub of the green".

But much more importantly, your pedantic posts have nothing to do with the joy of watching football.

I think Hourihane has qualities that we just can't seem to benefit from in this system. The amount of times he drifted out wide yesterday to literally stand and watch Bolton play their way through the huge gaps in midfield was frustrating. He definitely needs at least two bodies in there doing his work for him, but at this stage of his career it's debatable whether it's worth that investment.

He's a bit like a vintage rolls royce. Nice to have, but eventually you'll get sick of the loops you have to jump through to keep it going.

Whatever the system there is no excuse for the two early instances he was brushed of the ball, or the amount of time he spends moving

around to areas where he has little effect. Korey Smith has been impressive since he came back from injury.

Nah let's call things out for what they are. Hourihane cheated by diving to get his opponent sent off.

If we are going to be critical of officials all the time, let's also be critical of the players who are making their job even harder by trying to con them.

That said, these things do even themselves out over a season and I think we've still got some in the bank.

Did you criticise Jason Knight when he was falling about all over the pitch to get us a free kick , or more distantly Chris Martins antics? Don't think you can say that diving is a feature of Hourihane's game and  doubt he couldn't have foreseen that a sending off would result   ( if it had been in the penalty area perhaps).

There is a big total of fouls against us this season when opposition players have dropped to the floor after zero or minimal contact.

He was beaten in the air. So what? Do you expect him to win every ball? Their player should not have been able to get in behind, but let's ignore that and hate on Bradley some more shall we?

Bradley was leaden .....and saying an objective fact doesn't a hater make

How have you come to this conclusion? From what I've perceived, I believe the exact opposite to be true- Warne is often vocal about what he wants ie. a striker in January. When that's not delivered, how are you coming to the conclusion that he's ''completely responsible'' for our recruitment- surely that proves the exact opposite?

Do you not think that with the signing of a winger FIRST we have an indication of Warne's priorities? He may have said he wants a striker but that does not mean it was his priority. Not surprising given his preference for playing a lone striker.

The fact that he looked rather good as LFB last season, and when we needed one last night we got Cashin, has to be questioned. Obviously Sibley has done something wrong?

Sibley hasn't necessarily done anything wrong. After Saturday Warne himself suggested a back 3 was restricting our attacking ability.

So when choosing the back four for Charlton  he moved Cashin to LB  so as to still find a place for Bradley . Bradley  seems to be Warne's flavour of the month and Warne still needs to show us all that Bradley was a good signing.

Injury Prone: Gayle has faced challenges with injuries during his career, which could potentially impact his availability for matches and consistency on the fiel.

Mixed Performance: While Gayle has demonstrated goal-scoring prowess, there have been long periods of inconsistency in his performance over several years, which might be a concern for us.

This seems to ignore the situation were were in when signing Gayle. Warne's failure to find injury cover for Collins left us in a dire situation. Gayle seems to have been the best of a not good range of options. Hard to use his Stoke time as an indicator since as a Stoke supporting friend tells me, Stoke have serially failed under a long sequence of many failed managers.

But the worst thing about your post is you are not giving Gayle a fair chance if you try to draw conclusions so early - it usually takes time for players to adjust to a new team, and its not like we are playing well at the moment. Its like you have made your mind up already.

You are right its not Warne's fault for example that none of our players seemed to get the ball to another Derby player from a throw in. Or pick out a white shirt or make a correct decision

Blinkered view. So nothing to do with Warnes coaching or the style of play he demands. We lost the passing game when Rosenior was ditched and it has to be said that some of Warne's incoming players struggle to pass effectively

I'm not sure what the answer is tbh. The midfield of Adams, Bird and Smith was fine imo and much better without Hourihane. And yet we still don't create much if NML is off form.

Really ? Too defensive. Still the empty space in the middle of the pitch. Miserable number of goal attempts. Bird was poor and not playing as far forward as in some recent games. Little support for Gayle. ,  ... yes a ..great midfield tonight. ..

We do seem to have a problem with players "switching off" in certain situations. You always value those players who are alert to danger, but I think we've a few who are prone to 'freezing' at key moments. Both goals on Saturday could have been averted had certain players reactions been maybe only a second quicker. That's more a mental issue than a physical one.

Both Bradley and Hourihane were slow to respond after the Barnsley cross came over, but there was more to the goal than that.

Cashin's defensive header was shocking  and Kane shouldn't have backed off the Barnsley player who crossed the ball. That said, whatever mental slowness they might have had, both Hourihane and Bradley are also physically slow.

I'm confused about why the consensus seems to be that we should have gone 4-3-3 earlier because I feel like playing a 3/5 kept us in the game when they were pressing. Their front two and the supporting midfielder would have overrun a back 4 because, let's be honest, you'd be wanting the fullbacks to bomb on too, so it'd be 2v3 on the break. You can't go away to a form team and play that aggressively.

My problem with the formation was the frantic switching at the end where the players looked lost as to what they were supposed to be doing.

Overall, two poor teams today. I think we win that with a fit squad, but it is what it is.

A back 3 of Nelson Bradley and Cashin aint the quickest, and  Barnsley's movement up front was quick. So when they sent the ball forwards  they easily caused us problems .   To play a back 3 we dropped Nyambe -a good defender. Wilson was much better after the substitutions playing further forward. Your argument ignores the benefit of having another player further forwards. This is third recent match when we had to make the switch to a back 4. Warne is too cautious.

In response to what you said, you would struggle to find more than a handful in their rightful place at the end of a season, it's a complete mess. According to xPoints -just one of the estimates- last year it was one in 24.

Given the purpose of Xg and their ilk is predictive ability ( and not just based on one match but a sequence) do you not realise how your comment undermines the value of what you argue for?

I think people are focusing too much on his goals. Yes he's coming in to be a striker, but his link up play is where he shines most these days. I think he's gonna be the clever link between NML and whoever else plays in attack with him. Ofcourse we hope he will contribute to the goal tally, but he has come in and has qualities that none of our strikers do, and in this league, its a big signing even at his age.

Looking forward to seeing his first game 👌

    Spot on . 😚
