This is a tough one, Sibley has been given a few opportunities after a couple of good performances with PW but not taken them, It hasn't helped him with having to play in a few positions, Is the time right for a longer spell in the team...I'm going to sitting_on_the_fence_lg_wht.gif&ehk=RpvU

In recent games Sibley has shown great ability at left back and done well in midfield. Great to see his  increased maturity and his eradication of the reckless fouls which were such a feature  of his play,  regularly costing us dangerous free kicks. He 's an important squad member and deserves a new contract.

I will try and clarify it for you. We currently are
4th luckiest in the league on this (xG vs actual)
5th luckest in the league on this (same metric)
5th or 6th luckiest in the league on xG points vs actual (-7 excluding today, same source)

    By my database
Chances to goals scored (3.09, avg 3.72) is as lucky as it gets after 33 games
Chances to goals conceded (4.17) is luckier than 72% of teams
The two combined (1.08) is luckier than 86% of teams - for reference last season was quite unlucky and this was only 0.38 against
Finally on results we are 8 points better off, this is luckier than 88% of teams

You should trying selling your database ...... there must be some numbskulls out there who would buy it, who prefer pouring over the data to actually enjoying the football .

But you are being perverse in choosing to use "luck" to describe why our scores being different to the prediction. You fail to point out that both Barnsley and Bolton are "luckier" than us. You don't grasp that doing better than predicted by your statistics isn't necessarily down to luck. None of the Xg sites claims their models can take account of all the variables. If it was sunny tomorrow when the weather forecasters said it would rain we might feel  lucky ignoring that equally  the weather forecaster's model was not a perfect predictor.

Worst of all is you anti-Derby stance, since you wouldn't use such language  otherwise.

Does beg the question as to whether it would have produced better immediate benefits if we had used the CBT funds to purchase a quality striker now and if necessary leave the CBT deal to the summer. Early days I know but CBT doesn’t seem to be the catalyst to pushing on that we needed now….

This is the key point. No need to refer to how Corey-Blackett. has done so far, that's not relevant. rather why prioritise another winger against the more urgent need for another forward ? Criminal negligence and a mistake we also made in the summer transfer window. Warne's words today included how important is having a Collins-like figure to lead the line owtte, so what are we supposed to do now?

I’d like Warne to make a couple of proactive subs to protect one or two players now. Adams off for Thompson or Smith, Sibley on for Collins or NML maybe. I know if Collins went off we’d be without a “proper” striker but I think he’s needed for Saturday.

So changes to protect the players, but not just to sit in and protect the lead

Yes. Protect Adams from the ref.

No-one wants to give Warne and the players credit for finding the belief, character, and consistency to turn the season around and no-one wants to give Warne and the players any credit for showing even more character and toughness to dig in and continue getting results to keep us in the hunt while those much-fabled footballing sides begin to fade.

No-one wants to give Warne credit - just garbage. Like the vast majority I was well pleased with the post -Stevenage improvement. But by focussing on points scored you can skate over the fact that the original  faults have been evident in quite a few games we have won and have not gone away. Faults like our excess caution , the predictability that comes from the repeated playing down the wings and limitations of playing one up front most of the time remain and are down to the manager. Not sure if you go to games but its depressing to travel a long way to the match only for us limply to concede an equaliser in the closing minutes, which has happened quite a few times recently. I think our squad is good but Our defence has a good record but these late goals are often conceded after substitutions supposed to enable us to see out the game.

Really ? Can’t we have one thread that’s not destroyed by this , we’ve got the manager in place for good or for bad , if your not interested in a decent debate about or putting ideas forward why bloody spoil it for others who may be interested of have ideas 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Nope

I've always judged Collins on what he brings to the team as a whole.

I am very happy with Collins this season but the above can't be the criterion on which

he is judged cos he has a very specific role in scoring goals with our current squad. If he ain't scoring he's failing..

If you look at the signings since he took over the club, I think Clowes has tried to build a competitive team and strike a good balance between ambition and prudence.

People want to complain about our transfer business this season, but every season has cases of players not working out. I think people seem to forget that only 11 players can play at any one time and not every signing will work because other players are getting game time and playing well and getting recognition.

Don't believe Clowes will be micromanaging  the building of the team as your post suggests.

Its not a case of players not working out but that the strategy doesn't meet the main needs. There is a clear need for another striker. having o nly one regularly fit competent striker takes us back to the problems we had when under EFL sanction, when we are /should be in a much better position to acquire new players now. Admittedly Collins is doing well but we need cover if we are undertaking a promotion push. We had the same striker issue last summer  and have learnt nowt from that.

Collins never deserved the hate he received. Normally running about with no service and no one else chipping in with goals.

Collins has done very well this season but your description isn't valid for last season, when Warne was driven to leaving him out of the team and McGoldrick was the main man.

Not sure if you're watching the same game as me.

Hourihane spends most of the match alongside our centre backs.

This is just not true - see whoscored stats or just imagine how he scored his recent goals or assists.

Most of thet ime our centre backs are very deep  - too far back and thats one of our problems.

Hourihane is doing what Warne tells him.

It's certainly not a good idea to point vitriol at our manager when there is still much to play for. That's just barmy. But we can be clear on what we think success looks like and what we would expect to happen if that success was not achieved. That's not vitriol either, that's expectation. For me, he has to get us up this season - if that doesn't happen then my expectation would be he is not our manager at the start of next season.

You clearly unfairly prefer to reserve your vitriol for individual players , who are actually prisoners of the way Warne selects the team , the formation and tactics he employs. ( judging by some of your posts in other threads). Perhaps vitriol towards players is not a good idea when there is still much to play for  and given the limited choices we have.

All this crap starting to emerge again about style of play after 1 defeat...........................................

4 winnable games coming up now, we move on.

I think that it s not about "after 1 defeat" since most will be thinking of the poor attacking performance ta Lincoln as well as last night.

I am sure a few matches ago we were saying that the Lincoln and QPR matches were winnable.

The alarmingly poor performances all over the pitch is exactly what we have seen before. Players were giving the ball away all  the time  and Elder's performance was the only bright spot in a dire match (for us). It became predictable that for so many of the 50-50 balls the Derby player would limply struggle and then lose out. It's Warnes' job to motivate the players and he is clearly failing.  No celebration from me about bringing in another wide player when a goal scorer effective the opposition box is what should be the priority.

I mean in the words of Roy Keane, that's his job. It wasn't a major contribution, just the minimum expectation really. People have fair criticisms of Max Bird more than just he "does nuffink".

Laughable. Not a major contribution   ... but it got us 2 points !! As with Bird the whoscored stats give a different view and Hourhane was our most highly rated player.

I’m really not keen on these “never wear the Derby shirt again” type comments. I’d be nervous the next time he’s picked at right back but it wouldn’t be the first time a player has had a shaky start to his career at Derby (or any club come to think of it) but then gone on to perform well. He was good going forward but there were some serious flaws in his defensive performance last night that need to be eliminated (or at least reduced significantly -no player is perfect) pretty damn quickly.

His quick removal from the pitch by Warne will have given him some sort of message.
