Papahet reacted to Carl Sagan in Steve Gibson trying to liquidate Derby
Here we are, administrators in, massive points deduction, an estimated £50m or whatever in debt, unable to pay wages. And then we read in the Teesside Gazette that Steve Gibson is suing Derby County. https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/middlesbrough-Derby-rooney-mel-morris-21660410
His gripe is that Mel sold the stadium to another of Mel's companies (accepted as OK by the League because not every club owns their stadium and you can't force a club to) and that Derby loaned Matt Clarke when Gibson wanted him to go to Middlesbrough.
Of course claims such as these are manifestly absurd and would normally be laughed out of court. But the problem is it's inconceivable that the Derby Administrators can also afford to pay lawyers to fight the Middlesboro Chairman. Equally, it's inconceivable that Derby could afford any additional fines the courts might impose.
The sole purpose of this can only be to ensure the end of Derby County as a football club. Nothing less. The entire football world including honest Middlesbrough fans should be outraged by this behaviour and condemn it in the strongest possible terms. The club can't afford to fight this, so it's up to us fans to shame Gibson into stopping this despicable course of action.

Papahet reacted to SamUltraRam in Derby County Administration (with the slight possibility of Liquidation still there)
I think I love Rooney
It's now only coming out what he's had to deal with over the last 10 months
Also he admitted when asked, but with dignity, that he HAS been paying for some things himself
Respect

Wayne thanked the fans for their incredible support and the pride that they given the team and all at the club. Players are so grateful and are playing for the fans. They may not win every match but they will not stop trying.
He also said that he will put up two league tables for the players, one showing where we are actually and the other to show where we would be without the 12 point deduction., so they keep their spirits up and can see how well they are doing. How lucky we are to have him.

Who'd have thought a lad brought-up on a council estate (and a rough one at that) speaks more candidly than an entitled "businessman"!
Wayne Rooney for PM.

Also, after Mel spoke to the team & Rooney yesterday Rooney asked Mel to leave the room so he could deal with the players himself

Touch of real class from Gibson there. Shows the football world the kind of man he is.

Papahet reacted to ram59 in Football, the broken model
Just been watching Sky sports news and what hit me was the irony of 2 topics of their program this morning.
First they were waxing lyrical over 'Liverpool's' future superstar wonder kid, Kaide Gordon and within minutes were discussing the demise of our club. They didn't mention at all the fact that Liverpool virtually 'stole' him from us.
How unfair is the system whereby a club has invested heavily in its academy, loses a player worth 10s of millions for a pittance. Nevermind the rights or wrongs of how Derby have got in this mess with overspending elsewhere, we have also spent money in the right place to develop a talent worth tens of millions of pounds, but without getting the reward.
No offense to Kaide or to Liam Delap, but if they had had the interests of the club at heart, like Jude Bellingham at Birmingham, we would be a lot better off. Jude Bellingham waited until his 17th birthday before signing professionally for the Blues, who then immediately sold him to Dortmund for £25M. You can't blame our youngsters because they may have picked up a career ending injury before their 17th, but you can blame the football system which allows this to happen.
So because of the different attitudes of three 16 year olds, Blues are plus £25M and Derby plus £2M when it should be plus £50M.
Derby's academy should have been able to clear our debts, but the system has prevented it.

Or keep the swimming pool and sand pit, build some holiday lets on a few of the pitches and advertise near the beach with communal pool.
Create a bit of a Centre Parks type thing in Oakwood and we could be generating revenue from it in no time.

Yep. Some people recognised this early on, most didn't.
My concern crystallised when we signed Shackell back for about £2.5m rising to a potential £4m. We then gave him a three year deal, meaning it would expire when he was 35. Given that he came from a PL club the wage wouldn't have been buttons. I just thought that was madness, but the consensus was 'if he helps us go up it's worth it'. That kind of logic used over and over again has led to this.
In a way I don't blame people for getting swept up it it all, but the lack of questioning of it all at the time amazed me given how recently GSE had steady the ship after the last round of reckless spending.

Sounds like a narcissist to be honest.
“Blame everything and everyone but me”
Its been a circus since he came in - I’ve been berated for years because it was obvious he was taking us into a financial mess and the club would eventually come to a stand still.
The ridiculous long term contracts, the manager merry go rounds, the pretty much bad monthly tabloids about us.
This was way before Covid mate

Dawes excellent having a go about the PR with fans. Saying "we're attacked by fans for not doing our job as journalists ". Mel trying to say he was on zooms 24-7 with buyers, efl etc so not even 20 mins to record a message to fans? Really brushed this aside i feel. Think we all understand he couldnt share confidential stuff but he could have said something
