  1. I do wonder, and especially considering the shape of the sides in the game against Bradford, whether Rosenior might be looking at a 4-4-2 system this season.

Or perhaps something a little more akin to the 4-4-2 that Harry Redknapp used at Spurs, where the two contains a 9 (Crouch) and a 10 (Van Der Vaart) who feeds off him and links with the midfield.

That duo for us might be Collins as the 9, with McGoldrick linking to the attack. Sibley may also come into that role. TB and NML as your two wide players, with Hourihane and Stephens in midfield. And into that the possibility of Bird, Knight, etc.

    Not bad!

  2. Haven’t felt this optimistic about this football club in ages. It’s so nice.

I really like the idea of combining some promising youngsters, both from our academy and others, with experienced pros with something to prove (and on short contracts!).

McGoldrick and Collins combining with Stratton and Cybulski. Fantastic.

Hourihane playing in midfield with Knight or Sibley running off him and Bird sitting deeper. Fantastic.

Cashin and possibly Roberts combined with the experience of Chester and Davies. Fantastic.

Very excited to see who else arrived and how this squad takes shape, but the current trajectory has me feeling (maybe for the first time in years) that there is some thought-out planning going on in terms of recruitment and we might have a chance of having, for the first time since Clough, a balanced squad.

He will be good but better than hourihane? Hourihane scored 13 in one season which is only 3 less than mcgoldricks best year from midfield so I can't see David being prolific enough to warrant being a better signing than Connor? Would be real happy with both though

It’s the hold up play, and his ability to link up with on-running midfielders, that makes McGoldrick so good.

I like to think Chris Wilder has a good eye for a player at this level, and he obviously rates him.

Is this guy real/believable or just a fake ITK account?

No, very reliable. I actually used to work with Pete, and Graeme Bailey, and can confirm they’re both very good.

I think the best thing about this signing is not just the obvious things he brings on the pitch, but the pull this might have for other players who are thinking about joining us.

It’s a real statement of ambition and a great sign that this rebuild is very much happening!

Definitely looked an afternoon of scheduled tweets from the social media team. Next up at 7pm, do we go live or is it the additional deals rumoured from yesterday?

Icing on the cake would be Chester and Hourihane, two players I've always rated very highly. Surely both too good for League One?

Hourihane would be such a good signing at this level that it just can’t happen. It’s just not a Derby thing to do.

Chester I’m less impressed with, mostly due to his age/pace. Mind you, Curtis has shown that it’s not all down to your engine type.

I do hope we are going to try and combine these older, more experienced signings with some younger talent, though. There are plenty of players, even in the National League, that a decent scouting department could uncover.

After Davies’ comments, it’s an absolute no brainier to have Rosenior do it on a permanent basis. A behind the curtain look seemed to suggest that he was the man who brought it all together last season, not a great look for Rooney though!

Which comments were these? I’d be interested to read that if you could share a link

Macdonald, Mcgoldrick, Chester and Hourihane would be class signings. Macdonald was immense for Fulham couple of years ago. Fair play DCFC for attracting some of these players. Fair to say their not necessarily coming for the money but WANT to play for the club. Especially if Hourihane comes, he’ll have lots of offers elsewhere, some of the others too

Pretty much agree with you, but at 34 years old, I’m not sure how much we could expect from David McGoldrick.

Mind you, I seem to remember a certain Aaron Wilbraham scoring a shed load of goals for Bristol City when they were in league one, and I’m pretty sure he was over 100 years old…
