May Contain Nuts got a reaction from Will Hughes Hair in v Salford City - Pre Season Friendly
Show me any player attacking who can recreate their past form, or build up any new form based on 20 minutes here and there played out of position in a team which has a defence-first setup.
Funnily enough the first time (actually only) he was used correctly, in position, in an attacking setup with other people to play off was Brentford away, scored a good goal to get us a point.
After that? Back to the wing! He did have a good game out of position on the right but that was when we trialled the Waghorn/Gregory combo so he had 2 CFs to play with, he wasn't just stuck out there on his own with the nearest attacker / midfielder 30 yards away from him
Yes he gives away silly free kicks and gets a few bookings. Does that justify his constant misuse and the nullification of any attacking threat he might bring to a team already utterly desperate for some attacking flair?
The fear of him giving away a free kick that leads to a goal or picking up enough bookings to be suspended for 4, 5 games a season is understandable when results are so tight and can hinge on so little but it works both ways. Use him properly and the benefits should far outweigh the risks.

You may not rate him as a player, you may not think he has what it takes to be a leader but, making you feel sick, really? Feels like a bit of an overreaction.
If your feelings are a result of the Joiners incident - fair enough in the immediate aftermath but don’t you think it’s time to move on?

Does it have to be an either/or with Sibley and Morrison?
I thought both played well and both looked committed to the cause yesterday.

Literally not a dismissive barb. It's become a political football at least in part thanks to the ex US president who tried to win the masses over by downplaying the seriousness of covid, like a lot of the dissenters here are similarly doing. Miracle wonder drugs I'm in favour of, once they are approved. We are optimistic that the vaccine will reduce hospitalisations, which will help us to return to normal. So far it seems to be working. Other drugs have come and gone, disproved in the real world.
This thread is turning hilarious as it's a small but vocal, angry group of people pushing a worldwide organised ulterior motive that they still can't explain beyond some vague power grab and accusation of profiteering. That's a power grab by the people in power, and profiteering from the immensely wealthy.

I actually think if we're playing Bird as our 'defensive' player we're going to be just too lightweight. But Bird and Shinnie together is such a terrible combination we can't do that either. It feels like we've got problems all over and there is absolutely no depth to the squad at all.

May Contain Nuts got a reaction from Jimbo Ram in It's not 5 it's 4! Choose again.
but....................................... where would selling pretty much our only attacking threat for 2/3rd of all games last season get us?
We finished last season scoring just 36 goals and haven't bought (or even been linked with) anyone who'd even make up the paltry 5 goals Waghorn scored, nevermind someone who'd get us 5, 10 extra goals on top of that!
If we gamble on someone stepping into Byrne's shoes and it doesn't work out we'd likely both concede more and struggle to hit 25 goals for the season!

May Contain Nuts got a reaction from rynny in Captain Tom Lawrence
Acknowledge your part in something, show remorse and apologise for it, take your punishment on the chin, show strength and character by overcoming personal trauma (after accepting help, a step many never even reach) and work your way into a position where the rest of the squad respects you, your manager respects you and you might just get rewarded for it.
Rooney's made positive comments about how Lawrence has been with the squad during his time as manager. He was already 'redeemed' in the eyes of those within the club. The captaincy isn't redemption, it's a footballing decision. It may not be a decision we agree with looking in from the outside, but it is the decision that's been made.
I think it's important who the captain is if they've been the captain for 3, 4, 5+ years and had a defence built around them, but the way we handed it around last made it almost valueless. Often when a new manager takes over at a club one of the first things they'll do is seek out the captain to give him a lowdown on the character of the squad, there's power in the role.
Power that I'm glad someone who refuses to do any of the above (and shows exactly what sort of character he really is) no longer has.
Whether you like Lawrence or not, he's made mistakes and the people closest to the situation feel that he's learned from them and is a better person now. 2 years later I'd rather have him at the club than the greedy ****** crying about things being 'unfair' and who still hasn't apologised for his actions because it would have harmed his undeserved payout.

Can't really figure out why they're embracing modern technology by going cashless whilst at the same insisting upon people printing out their tickets like it's still 2002 and we spend our spare time sitting in internet cafes or the local library.
(...or like it's 2019 and we're all sat in offices and can use the company paper/ink supplies)
Bloody pain in the arse having to go begging to use someone's printer.

May Contain Nuts reacted to jono in Captain Tom Lawrence
I think the arguments relative to the positions of Keogh and the others have been discussed at length some time ago.
Tom, before the incident, was considered a top player / potential talisman .. but he blotted his copy book. He was punished. He got his head down and sought to redeemed himself. I think he succeeded in that. This in itself puts him as a candidate for whatever the club decides. Personally I would always want a Curtis type of man, as a team captain but the decision isn’t mine and Tom, having redeemed himself has a earned the chance to be considered for the role.

May Contain Nuts reacted to Duracell in Is this the most depressing period you’ve experienced as a Derby fan?
I really like the analogy, but I do think he had vision and bravery in bucketloads, just totally misplaced. I used to conflate our timid away performances with a timid culture at the club but sheesh, having read Pride, Nigel had a very clear vision for how we wanted to play and borderline bullied any player that got in his way. That's where his skillset fell short. He couldn't - or wouldn't - get on with the modern footballer so he got his brother to stalk the British Isles finding parodies of old-fashioned footballers.
You know the phrase "you can't make an omelette without breaking any eggs?" I'd imagine an Omelette made by Nigel Clough would be inedible due to the amount of egg shell in it.

May Contain Nuts reacted to Mostyn6 in Is this the most depressing period you’ve experienced as a Derby fan?
Clough was the nurse. We now need a nurse. However, when you’re nursed back to health, the specialist will get involved. Clough doesn’t have anywhere near the skillset, vision and bravery to even get a big side to flirt with the top8 let alone a trip to Wembley.

It’s my opinion, I’ve already given him credit for rebuilding the team, but I won’t sit here and pretend we were going anywhere under him. That’s not being disrespectful, that’s being honest.
