  1. I don't particularly like that "explosion in a Mr Kipling factory" smell, but there's worse. Jeez, the stink of weed everywhere is by far worse.

My main concerns are the appeal to kids, and single use vapes. With 2 foster children aged 9 and 11, there's some inexplicable draw to vapes. It's a tech toy, a fruity sweet and a forbidden adults-only item. So maybe not so inexplicable. Kids will find a way to get their hands on them - particularly the disposable ones that they come across just walking around. Environmentally horrible, children pick them up and use them - god knows who has been using it before them. They could be harbouring all sorts of nasty things.

Disgusting. But better than tobacco, and better than weed. Unpopular opinion I suspect.

  2. I think we're in stage 3 of the "yes minister" standard foreign office response :

Sir Richard Wharton: “In stage one, we say nothing is going to happen.”

Sir Humphrey Appleby: “Stage two, we say something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it.”

Sir Richard Wharton: “In stage three, we say that maybe we should do something about it, but there’s nothing we can do.”

Sir Humphrey Appleby: “Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it’s too late now.”

Thing is, Zuckerberg with Meta is much closer to having apps which do all those things than Musk is.

Biggest irony? Meta, and therefore, Zuckerberg, owns the trademark for X. Microsoft started a rival to twitch called mixer which failed, but they sold their branding which included X and its use in social media space trademark to Facebook video. Therefore, Musk cannot use X without Zuckerberg agreeing, so guess we will see what happens with that.

Musk’s ownership of twitter has been baffling. He spent an exorbitant amount of money for basically nothing - he has slated the code, the branding, got rid of employees and offices. User base? Well the user base was there because of the code and branding, so they’ll go. So what has he actually bought? All companies kill for their brand to become the vernacular - hoover, coke, bubble wrap, jet ski etc

Twitter, prior to the awful porn-style rebranding, had lost so much value that it was the equivalent of Yum! Brands. Yum! owns KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. That’s over 30,000 restaurants and all the employees, branding etc. it’s basically $20bn.

Musk has a weird obsession with X. He tried to rebrand PayPal to X and bought x.com. Their focus groups and marketing research said it was a horrible idea and made it sound like a porn site, so they refused to do it and had to remove him from the company. He kept the x.com name though. Since then he’s got a child he calls X, he has Space X, Tesla Model X… it’s just plain weird.

Musk is a snake oil salesman who people have believed his promises which he rarely delivers close to what he said for a long time. But hey, some Tesla’s are nice despite build quality, so it’s fine. But now it’s not an actual physical product he’s being seen for what he is.

My work has a starlink. Guess what the logo on it is?

I was thinking earlier, you know what this forum needs?  Another twitter thread 😛

Ah well, at least some folk have finally got the twitter killer they've been longing for...

Good point. All the conversation around what will finally kill twitter, will it be mastodon, will it be bluesky, will it be threads.

Not many people thought it would be suicide.

What I don’t get is that it went to see Titanic so surely that would narrow down the area they’d need to search for it? With all of today’s tech wouldn’t it have narrowed down the search zone? Immaterial now sadly

It was 12,000 feet down, in pitch black.

And it wasn't there because it was in bits. It was like the blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat. That isn't there.

I think Harry Kane should move on after a recent spate of high profile burglaries.

Ryan Giggs was burgled recently and they got away with 13 Premier League medals, 2 Champions League medals, 4 FA Cup medals, 1 UEFA Super Cup medal, 9 FA Community Shields and 3 Football League Cup medal.

Harry Kane had a toaster and flat screen tv stolen.

It does remind me of the time spurs got their trophy room robbed and cleared out. Police were looking for a man selling a roll of Axminster.
