Are you suggesting someone is trolling in a thread as sensitive and important as this one ?

bit sad really , still people dying needlessly doesn’t come anywhere near getting pronoun s wrong 🤷🏻‍♂️

What, me, accuse a fellow mod of trolling? No chance.

  2. Going back to Palestine for a minute.

I was thinking about the human shield, about who would kill an innocent civilian.

On the one hand you've got people who believe there are no innocent people being killed. They're either terrorists, apologists for terrorists, guilty by association with terrorists or responsible for the terrorist leaders. Whatever justification they have, they've convinced themselves that they don't count as innocent. Guilt is unequivocal, and viewing them as "human animals" means they can be treated with impunity. They don't count as deserving life.

On the other hand, there's a group who have weighed up the equation, which holds more value - the life of an unknown number of innocent palestinians, vs the death of a much smaller number of Hamas supporters - and have decided the deaths hold greater value than the lives. Now that speaks to me of their value of those innocent lives.

I am getting fed up with TV commentators repeatedly apologising for bad language picked up on the mics at live football matches.

Normal tv programs are preceded with warnings saying that this program contains bad language, sexual scenes, violence, etc, etc. They don't have someone talking over the dialogue to apologise, every time an actor swears during a program.

It is a live sporting event, people should expect to hear swearing, as they expect to see violence in a John Wick film.

Surely one visual and audible warning preceding the match, should suffice?

Have you not seen Martin Scorsese's Badfellas, specially ruined for TV version?

Even though the Jewish people are the only people in this country who have been harassed and discriminated against by a main stream political party as decided by a court of law.

But you and others on this forum think they are not worthy of antisemitism awareness month but it’s ok for Islamophobia awareness month?

Try searching antisemitism awareness week. Looks like lots of organisations have tried to create it.

Why is Islamophobia month a thing and antisemitism awareness month isn't? Is it maybe because we are aware (well, I thought we were aware, but apparently arguing not to kill civilians is antisemitic, so perhaps I'm wrong) what antisemitism looks like, but Islamophobia is ignored, condoned and even seen as acceptable.

The real answer is because someone has organised one and it's captured enough attention to get traction, the other for some reason hasn't.

OK, I've answered your question that wasn't worthy of a response. Now you answer why nowhere else other than Gaza is shooting a human shield acceptable? It's morally repugnant, that's why.

I await your lovely laughing emoji, because dead civilians is such a hoot.

Hammas slaughtered 1,400 women and children deliberately to invoke a robust response by Israel.
Hammas have sacrificed their own people many who would agree to a two tier state in Israel to win a propaganda war so they can continue their genocide of Jewish people in Israel

That doesn't answer my question. Why is this barbaric response towards innocent people allowed?

Name me any film where the cop executes the hostage, and justifies it as acceptable collateral damage? Why do you think there aren't any (or if there are any, why so few?)

Not one single Arab state that surrounds Israel supports democracy.
Not one single state that surrounds Israel would allow any demonstrations against their own narrative they would be slaughtered or imprisoned.

In what way does that justify systematic slaughter of innocent civilians? "oh, but they don't support democracy"?

Why is such barbarism allowed? Hamas hide behind a human shield, so Israeli forces shoot the innocent people being used like that?

Tell me one film where the bad guy takes a hostage, holds a gun to their head, and the cop unloads his full clip into both of them?

Why is such a disproportionate response not only allowed, but actively defended?

It's all just trendy hipsters following a trend. @GboroRam, how long ago was it that we had a bit of back and forth over my Palestine flag that I had for a long time? (Thanks to you mods and David for allowing this thread by the way).

That was two years ago, apparently.

Remember that video of the Russian tank driving over Ukrainians in a car? It went viral? The video that didn't show you the fight it was in with 2 Ukrainian light tanks or whatever they were about 30 seconds earlier? The video that proved there Russians had no care for civilians?

Wonder if this will do the rounds. I don't know the context. But just interesting to see if it gets splashed around on twitter by CNN

The problem is, you never know the real truth. It was a Hamas target. It was Hamas that bombed the car. It's a deep fake.

Any or none of which may be true.

Is it a legitimate target? I genuinely have no idea.

Not sure a mod should be introducing yet more politics to the board when it's clearly against the rules - hey ho, one rule for us etc.....

He's not an MP any more so it's less political than a lot of posts around here.

Oh they absolutely utilised it for PR!

However it was/is heavily covered in other countries as well, as it’s the biggest war in the region since WW2.

It would still be front and centre stage no matter who was in power!

I'd argue it's not front and centre right now. Palestine is more visible at the moment.

    Absolutely.

It’s actually one of the deadliest phases of the war since the first few weeks and Russia’s Bakhmut assault last year. Most of the carnage is centered around Russia’s assault on Avdiivka. Russia is taking huge losses, whilst making some limited progress towards the town. Ukraine are also taking higher casualties whilst defending that front.

Obviously this war isn’t as popular with the western media now, in the wake of the Gaza crisis and the lack of any large gains for either side, unlike Ukraines successes last year.

Would it be cynical for me to suggest that it was front and centre stage because a failing PM needed to conjure up some Churchillian spirit to bolster some home support, so talking up the Ukraine angle and our refugee response was a means to an end? Now said Churchill disciple has gone, the issue has disappeared.
