NottsRam77 reacted to RebelScum in Jake Brierley Port Vale (H) 08-10-22 Family Request
Hi guys
My nephew, Jake passed away on August 12th aged 23. Despite being dealt a bad hand he enjoyed life to the full possessing a sharp, dry wit and a fondness for dressing well - the other thing we had in common ? was our love for Derby County!
Many of you will recognise Jake, a life-long season ticket holder in the West Stand attending matches with his Dad.
His family are orchestrating a minutes applause at the 23rd minute during the Port Vale home match on Saturday October 8th.
Extended family will be in attendance and there will be a brief write up about Jake in the match day programme.
These tributes are becoming more common, but I think that because they are often not official and fan-led they are even more poignant - and it would be a great gesture for one of our own.
Assistance in spreading the word from members of this forum would be so very much appreciated.

I wont lie , i wasnt ever convinced that roseniors football was ever going to get us out of this league for reasons iv stated previously. Doesnt mean that im not disapointed for the guy and about the situation.

Feels like a no win situation
get to play offs but play crap football and its not good enough
miss out on the play offs and its not good enough
do think a lot of fans are still fixated and expect that mclaren half season where everything bar that last 5 mins at wembley was golden
that sort of football and form is a once in a blue moon sort of scenario for a club like us
theres no harm wanting it again and trying to aim for it but i do think we need to temper our expectations.. even more so given recent events

I think your likely to see the best of bird and collins
If what u say is right… and i think u are then bird will have more options AHEAD of him to hit instead of just one quite isolated front man and collins will have at least another body around him.
im also expecting more crosses and a general quicker delivery of balls into the box which is what collins has thrived off throughout his career

Mr Clowes recently save our club so let's back his first big decision it's the least we can do

His style of football has got Rotherham promoted and 8th in the championship.
Do you like us going away thinking we played some nice stuff but didn't score?
We haven't got time to worry about style of football right now. We need winning football.

NottsRam77 reacted to hintonsboots in Conor Hourihane
When we were in the depths of administration despair, I would have given my right arm to see a thread on the footballing skills of Conor Hourihane, and posters giving each other a handbagging over said topic.

Maybe, but Bird would have benefitted the exact same. Either could and probably deserved to come off.

I found this gem a particular rib-tickler.... ?
but I still wouldn’t swap our club with any other, particularly with those toxic pits of greed and entitlement dressed as sleeping giant football clubs (see Derby, Sunderland, Peterborough, Ipswich, MK etc).
We've made it into some pretty exalted company there...... Peterborough..... Sleeping giant...... Oh my sides! ?

Hourihane is a far bigger goal threat than Bird and a genuine match winner.
Bird isn’t a Bielik type. As you say, he needs legs around him but even then, I don’t think he is as creative as Hourihane.
McGoldrick was better as a 10 too.
I think the three at the back gets our better players in their best positions. NML and Bark can play wingbacks. Hourihane and Knight central midfield. McGoldrick and Sibley as roaming number 10s. Collins as the central striker.

Agree completely… re CH etc i think there will be occasions for bird and im not writing him off
Obviously he needs to sharpen up but i do have sympathy for him.
People ask what sort of player is he. We know what hes not etc etc.
Hes a water carrier… lots of very good players have been very successful in this role… hes not a destroyer , hes not a goal getter, hes not a particurlar creative hub. But on his day with options and more importantly bodies who are prepared to move for him to receive the ball… hes a water carrier, keeps the flow going, keeps things ticking, your heartbeat, your constant
hes shown he can do this and is still only young and is learning
Im Not righting him off at all i think he needs time, its usually a role that requires experience and knowhow

Not often you see a tactical change yield such resounding and immediate benefits. The switch to a back three and a more active midfield was quite literally transformational asnf I think Liam has answered his critics in the best way possible. I'm 'absolutely delighted' for him and I'm sure all those who have spent the week slating him, will now give credit where it's due. Don't worry,
Not one but 3 standouts today, Barks is a serious player and seems to be settling in really well. Hourihane is a maverick with a magic left peg, pure class today. But for me, the MOTM goes to an unheralded and unsung hero. Joe Wildsmith, take a bow son. That was a performance of which Mart Poom would have been proud.

We deserved to win that game.
We played far better after the changes.
Sorry Max Bird. But we were better when he went off and looked more fluid.

This. I really want Liam to succeed and us build steadily around a bright young manager long term who seems to get us and the club. Would love him to build and take us back to top flight. For where we were at as a club, the summer signings (except CF and RB) seemed positive, as did the start to the season. But the style and importantly not seeming able to change it at all when its not working is frustrating. The style may work with higher quality players but we are still not up to full strength squadwise and options are limited. I am interested to see how Liam handles these bad results to get back the positivity back both on and off the pitch, particularly as crowd numbers drop off. I wasnt expecting promotion this year realistically but would like to be a little entertained at least.
