11 of McGoldrick`s goals came in 4 games. That`s not to underestimate his exploits, but for all his goals, they didn`t actually win us that many points. Plus, I felt, that in the last 3 or 4 months of the season we became too much of a one man team. Our entre system of play had to revolve around him. This, in turn, made us quite easy to play against.
We need more variety this season and the signings so far suggest that we will get it.

How can anyone complain about warneball. Possession football has absolutely ruined football , all the excitement has gone with the ball just being passed around your own box for 90 minutes...

This, this and this again.  I read this thread over breakfast and it made me want to back to bed and wake up in May when the season is over!!
I said in another thread on the main forum page that if we had 3 strikers, each contributing around 15 goals each we’ll be better off than last season.  We’re getting hung up on replacing 20+ goals from McGoldrick but ignoring pens (he had 4 and assuming someone else will score them) that leaves 18 league goals.  I think with a bit more out of Collins, and I think he will get more, Washington and Rhodes, if it happens, we’ll do that.  Plus goals from around the team, threats at set pieces, etc.  @Ambitious has given some good stats about Rhodes and I think he’s right.  In the right system, with the right players around him, he’ll score goals in L1.  Personally, I’d be quite happy with a free transfer and a 1 year contract with another 1 year option.
And I might be about to commit heresy and be struck by a bolt of lightening but towards the end of last season I think McGoldrick hindered us.  At time he could have passed more and played others in.  I think he got a bit too focused on his best goal scoring season.

Don't know much about him but it's encouraging we can sign a young Rangers product, especially when Championship clubs were in for him, allegedly. Hopefully he'll add to the clutch of decent young 'uns on the fringes of the first team.
And who doesn't like a tiny creative midfielder?

If we get 3 points after 90 minutes, they can play head tennis with the ball with the keepers arse sticking it in the net for all I care.
Warne has a proven track record at this level, whatever everyone's takes are on Warneball, to a man and woman, not one fan would be complaining if he delivered the League 1 title.
We've had pretty much every style going with McClaren, Rowett, Cocu and without fail, fans are only ever happy when we're winning.
If I was to put a more positive spin on your description of Warneball for balance.
    1. High pressing, winning the ball back quickly in the opposition half.
    2. Wing backs getting down the line with the ball, Kane already spoke of his dribbling ability.
    3. Putting balls in the box giving decent service to Collins where instinct takes over rather than time to think.
    4. Winning the balls in the box.
    5. Scoring bags of goals
    6. Defend the lead by cutting out silly mistakes, a solid back line with natural wing backs that are willing to cover the ground turning it into a back 5 without the ball.

A bit surprised at how dismissive some comments are of the rest of the league.
Why will Barnsley (dont expect a points deduction,  just slap on wrist), Bolton, Peterborough (always have the knack of replacing the players they sell) Wycombe be any worse than last season?
Portsmouth (great form at end of last season) and Charlton (got in one of the best strikers in the league according to some on here) always have the potential to be a challenge, then the unknowns of the teams coming down, they have the majority of their squads from last year still don't they? And Reading now allowed to bring players in, plus the promoted teams could get on a roll, winning is a habit so if any of them get a good start who knows?
Who'd have thought Plymouth would have been up there last season? There's always 1 team that surprises, maybe an Oxford or even Burton (they heave been building a decent squad and had a half decent 2nd half of last year).
Of course, don't forget we will be the biggest scalp this season by a mile, no Ipswich or Sheff Wed means everyone will be looking to their games against us as their cup finals and we saw how teams raised their games last year, expect it even more this, along with the potential for unconscious bias from refs overcompensating whilst trying NOT to be swayed by our status and size of crowd.....
I can see the potential for a lot of low scoring attritional games, so it is important we stay behind the team and give them the support they will need to keep going against supposedly inferior opposition,  don't get frustrated,  don't get on their backs and slag off the players and management at the 1st sign of things not going to plan - wishful thinking I know!
But, over the 9 months, I expect us to be top 6, top 2 will depend on how well the others do with everyone elses focus on us (again, remind you of Plymouth going up automatically ahead of Sheff Wed! )

    Hi,
I'm a Derby fan who lives in Cambridge and just wanted to see if there's anyone nearby who'd like to meet up and chat DCFC, stream games, maybe arrange travel to some games this season.
Despite my best efforts, my girlfriend is just not interested in hearing about the latest transfers, contract renewals, and playoff chances, for some reason!

23, no fee, 2022 L2 player of the season, reaale value, looks a right handful in attack. I'd love to see him come off the bench and run at a tired L1 left back!
The quality of player we've had come in for no money down is very impressive. (obviously, we haven't played a game yet but, y'know....)

This is turning into a really positive transfer window and we look like 1 or 2 signings away from a relatively formidable team at this level. I feel the squad looks a lot stronger than last season already. We do need strikers (another 2) and a hard man in midfield but once we have those I'm feeling good!

You’re literally moaning about details you don’t know are correct. How do you know they went from £1.6 mil to £1.75 mil? Which is around 10% uplift btw. For al we know it was £1.5 mil and now it’s £2 mil. We just don’t know the details so you’re point isnt valid

Washington has a decent enough record at this level. Nice to see assists in addition to goals.
Pretty versatile, which may have hindered his career.
He knows what he does well, and more importantly I imagine Warne does too, and if he gets what he wants from him then I imagine he'll have a good season here.

3 keepers, 17 outfield players ignoring the u21s.
Probably need 3 more additions now, unless there are departures - R/L WB, AM, CF.

Gabby'sThighs reacted to Andrew3000 in Twitching
My own slight and relatively infrequent twitching comes not from the business done so far but from the expectation levels that I have this year, which I didn't have last year. We know the standard now, we are well placed with the infrastructure of the club, a decent core of players already here, a relatively good budget and space to fill in the squad and a full preseason ahead of us. It's enjoyable from this stable base to savour the opportunity to create a squad of high quality and better balance at this level.  However, there is anxiety that we might screw it up, not take a great opportunity because that would be very frustrating and disappointing.
The 'league one king' is also something I wish had not been  voiced, (even though there's plenty of credibility for that title)just because it has the potential to make failure to feel worse.
As many have said, it all ahead of us, let's see how we do. Ru Paul would put this more concisely...

Maybe and this is a big maybe, clowes  Warne and the recruitment team have come up with this never before heard of concept at Derby which is to get an under performing player on the cheap, improve them and make them a better player and then sell them on for a higher fee in a few years.
Sensational idea I know. Seems to go directly against our previous policies of drastically overpaying for a poor player in a purple patch of their career, hope and pray they maintain that purple patch, realise early on they wont as they are pretty poor, sell for a massive loss or loan out paying all their wages a year later, then rinse and repeat over and over again.
Strange times we live in. Almost as if we have some sort of plan now.

I'm happy with this one too - 134 Championship games, played the full 90 minutes in the last 20 games of last season.
30yrs but a free transfer and given a 2-year contract, very sensible.
Another one who seems like a nice bloke, and we've got a Curtis back in the squad.
    Keep them coming!

Gabby'sThighs got a reaction from NottsRam77 in Joe Ward - joined on a 3 year deal
Ward's played 200-odd games for Peterborough in 6 seasons so he seems injury-free, and he's their longest-serving player so he must be doing something right. They offered him a deal to stay, which is a good sign. The only worry is he's only got 1 season of Championship football, but he looks solid for L1.
No transfer fee, 27 years old, experienced at this level, in a position we desperately need to fill. I'm happy to have him!

He doesn't need to be Reece James, ffs, he just needs to be good enough to get us top 2.
