Given the ball already under pressure and expected to do something with it while everyone in front hid behind their marker 35Nelson 6.5 6Cashin 6.5 17Sibley 6.5 - improved a lot second half 7Barkhuizen 5 - largely anonymous, didn’t work as a foil to Collins first half 4Hourihane 2 - he’s Robbie Savage slowly turning Bird into James Bailey. He slows the game down in possession, with slow passing and his inability to move with the ball at his feet. Out of possession, we are essentially a man down. 22Fornah 6.5 - energy improved 8Bird 🦅 7 - the difference when playing with Thompson and Fornah was stark 5Bradley 6 27Blackett-Taylor 5 - struggled to get into it, didn’t help himself at times but the way we were playing didn’t lend itself to anyone 16Thompson 6.5 - Fornah probably slightly more involved but energy alone 11Méndez-Laing 6.5 9Collins 6.5 - wonderful finish, another who improved more with the tactical change. Decent ball to release NML for the winner. Possible role at #10 maybe?..... 5 Nelson.....always seems to be one of our better performers..... 6.5 Cashin.....better than previous two performances but passing still awry..... 6 Sibley.....deserves credit for a decent effort in a role he isn't ideally suited to..... 6 Barkhuizen.....had some decent moments..... 6 Hourihane.....not for me and surely Warne can't continue to pick him..... 4 Fornah.....improved us when introduced..... 6.5 Bird 🦅.....super goal and would surely benefit from a change in the midfield personnel..... 6.5 Bradley.....has been a composed and steadying influence in recent appearances. Decent and simple passing too..... 6.5 Blackett-Taylor.....if I'm generous I'll say he didn't seem to know what his role was and/or is getting used to different teammates. Anonymous and rightly withdrawn..... 4 Thompson.....needs to start matches..... 6 Méndez-Laing.....not at his best but posed a threat and tried to be positive at least..... 6.5 Collins.....was born offside. We create so little for him and I'd wager that his goals tally exceeds his personal xG. Man amongst boys sometimes. 6Cashin 6 - Average. Passing poor at times. 17Sibley 7 - My MOTM. Played out of position again and still wasn’t the worse defender. Was also our main threat first half and the only player to carry the ball at the opposition in either half. 7Barkhuizen 4.5 - From the positions he took up today Sibley could do it all much better. Shame Elder was injured but then Sibbo might not have got a game. 4Hourihane 3 - Needs dropping. Poor play all round. Actually made CBT look even worse than he was as he kept looking at him making runs and turning away from him and telling him to slow it down!! Infuriating. Can’t tackle, track or make a simple pass. Slows us down even more than we already are. The midfield looked 10 times better once he went off. 22Fornah 6 - Played well. Energy, drive and pressing that we’d dearly been lacking. Also found a white shirt forward as well. 8Bird 6 - Average of a 6 First half a 4 but mostly as he was covering Hourihane. Second half a 7 as he was a completely different player post subs. 5Bradley 7 - Best game for us. Solid & assured. 27Blackett-Taylor 5 - struggled to make an impact but it’s not all on him when he’s open, or making runs in behind and we are turning away from him or not putting him in and playing at a snails pace. 16Thompson 6 - Energy and tenacity sometimes goes a long way to change a game. 11Méndez-Laing 6 - Average. Gets some credit for the cross that we scored from. 9Collins 6 - Generally poor. Gets a point for the great goal. Needs to stay on side though. Manager - 5. Not afraid to take the ball under pressure but it’s different doing that as RBrather than at RW……got robbed several times 35Nelson 7…….solid 6Cashin 6.5…….thought he played well but their goal came from a Hollywood diagonal straight to their defender…..but CM’s get the blame 17Sibley 6.5……best player first half. Injected some forward momentum. Defensively OK bearing in mind he’s playing out of position 7Barkhuizen 6.5……injected plenty of zip on occasions. His run to halfway when he was chopped in half was the turning point of the match. Got the crowd up, got teammates going. 4Hourihane 5…..not his best display but suspect he’s obeying orders. We all know that winning second balls and games of head tennis are not his game. 22Fornah 6….didn’t do much but was an extra body in midfield 8Bird 6…..anonymous until part of a 3 in midfield and then very good. Lovely goal. 5Bradley 7……quietly very good. Passes the ball to teammates rather than speculative hoofs (remember Northampton when we played very well and he played loads of good balls into midfield players) 27Blackett-Taylor 3…..really poor performance - game completely passed him by. Let’s hope he follows the Wilson trend line with rapid improvement 16Thompson 6….buzzed around 11Méndez-Laing 6.5…….not his greatest game but lovely assist and hard working throughout 9Collins 7…….most of that score is for hard work and patience. Not sure he had a single pass that he could do anything with until the goal. Haaland wouldn’t have done any better yesterday. Did lose his man in the last second….when normally he’s one of the better defenders (wasn’t a foul in the first place) Horrible game to watch. Never seen so much head tennis……pub teams play like this but with less ability. Some of the ‘rallies’ yesterday were jaw-dropping….chest control and pass anyone? Gaining confidence. 2Wilson 6.5 Not helped first half. Better 2nd in parts 35Nelson 7 unlucky with the deflection for their goal. Always feel confident when the ball heads his way. 6Cashin 6.5 worldy diags just weren’t happening. 17Sibley 6.5 probably our best player 1st half. It was a low bar! 7Barkhuizen 6 toiled away without much service. 4Hourihane 4 didn’t boo him but should’ve been hooked at half-time. 22Fornah 6 seems to want too many touches/too much time. Not convinced yet. 8Bird 🦅 7 not helped first half. Better in the 2nd. Decent finish earns extra mark. 5Bradley 6.5 growing into games. Would probably start in a 3 next game if Nyambe wasn’t back. 27Blackett-Taylor 6 early days. Needs more time with the team. 16Thompson 6.5 at least gave us a bit of drive through the middle. 11Méndez-Laing 6.5 his run and cross for Collo’s goal was his highlight. 9Collins 7 extra for the fantastic finish. Lucky not to allow Cheltenham to equalise with the last kick of the game. 2Wilson 5.5 - Wasted as deployed and had a rare off day too. 35Nelson 6.5 - Solid enough without being at his best 6Cashin 6.5 - See Nelson 17Sibley 6.0 - Anonymous first half, but improved after the break. Not sure where we go from here with Louie if he's not to be played where he needs to be. Annoyingly, if we do let him go we'll get peanuts given he's not even a regular starter right now 7Barkhuizen 5.0 - Scarcely noticed he was playing. One of a few who went into their shells. 4Hourihane 5.0 - Poor from the skipper. He had looked to be running into fair form even just a few games back, but he just doesn't have the legs for a midfield two and this was more reminiscent of his early season endeavours. 22Fornah 7.0 - Showed plenty determination and got around midfield quickly. I like him and I don't understand why he gets so few games. 8Bird 7.5 - Not great in a 2 (how many times do we say it) but bossed it once Fornah and Thommo added legs and targets in midfield 5Bradley 6.5 - I don't notice him anymore, so at very least he's cut out the brainfarts. In truth, he's probably better than we've seen as yet. 27Blackett-Taylor 6.0 - Willing, but this was not a great game in which to be making his debut. Understnadably a bit peripheral, there'll be better days ahead. 16Thompson 7.5 - Love Thommo, he buzzes around like Knighty, has plenty of technical ability and is no weakling either. Small and feisty, we look better when he's playing. 11Méndez-Laing 6.0 - A quiet game by Nate's lofty standards, but with mitigating circumstances. Willing, as always, but not much worked out for him. 9Collins 7.0 - Apparently still considered not good enough by some, but he'll do for me. Busy, without looking especially effective, he suddenly morphed into Zlatan to provide as sweetly struck a goal as any you'll see this season. 18 in all comps this season. Marvellous! WarneWatch - Soz, Warney but even I'm getting fed up with the 2 man mid experiment. I understand what you're trying to achieve, but not the personnel you are using. Well done on getting it fixed, but we dodged one this week. There'll be an understandable interest in the team selection vs Lincoln and I think it's time to swallow your pride and go with what's been seen to work best. Cannot get near opponents nor drive past them. I have never liked him and Bird together and never will. 22Fornah 6 hope he doesn't leave, more to come from him. 8Bird 🦅 7 Extra point for the fab free kick. Otherwise struggled in that two. 5Bradley 6 Looks more confident and we looked more dangerous from set pieces with him up there. 27Blackett-Taylor 5 Looked a little lost, no understanding with team mates yet. Didn't get given the ball much. Too soon to judge, but underwhelming first impression. 16Thompson 6 Much needed dynamism but didn't get on the ball much. 11Méndez-Laing 7 Tireless shift where not a lot clicked but he covered so much ground and kept demanding more from his team mates. Looking more of a leader these days. What a lovely cross for the goal. 9Collins 7 superb finish. He's got bags of character.
