21CSchizoidRam
Very sad. He seemed to have been a very nice person, largely unaffected by stardom. Condolences to his family ziggyram59 and SKRam
admira
That's no age. He was my wife's late Dad's hero, being a bluenose. SKRam

GB SPORTS
RIP Trevor, when you meet Cloughie make sure you interrupt his squash game again!!! Edited July 24, 2023 by I DONT MIND ziggyram59
IslandExile
Never forget Cloughie before he signed him presenting him with some Midlands TV Award and the now famous: "Young man, take your hands out of your pockets". Peter Taylor on the BBC clip said they'd been trying to sign him for 8 years: 1979 - 8 = 1971 He should've been ours!!! Mucker1884
Holy crap! 😲 This is far too close to home for comfort, from an age/era perspective. An absolute shocker, this one. It goes without saying that we'll not mention that one particular evening in May '79 against the Swedish hairdressers, where he played a not too insignificant part in what I oft refer to as "One of, if not the most miserable week of my life". (There was more to that week than just the football, I hasten to add, but he certainly didn't help matters!) That evening aside, he was undeniably a decent sort. Excellent at his craft, and apparently kind of the heart, and deserves my utmost respect. As an aside... There was once word (From Sir Brian himself?) that the transfer fee was deliberately and consciously something like 1p (or £1?) short of that magic million mark, as Sir Brian didn't want to burden TF with that particular load! My memory is far too vague to assert whether that was true or not? 🤷♂️ Hey young man... sleep well, yeah! xxx IslandExile and SKRam 1
Van der MoodHoover
Always thought Francis and Tony woodcock should have got more England caps. Always seemed to be second fiddle to players like Bob latchford or Paul Mariner.
therealhantsram
Wonderful Cloughie clip on the ITV news website. Being typically awkward with journalists and finishing with a brilliant one liner. Enjoy. https://www.itv.com/news/central/2023-07-24/britains-first-1m-football-player-trevor-francis-dies-at-69 IslandExile

Rampant
Shocking news really. There are also reports that Chris Bart-Williams has died too at the age of just 49. Reggie Greenwood
Bobby
I saw nearly every game he played for QPR, scored a perfect Hattrick away at Villa, the third was sublime. Was also responsible for bringing Ray wilkins to Loftus road but was sacked the week he signed , would have loved to have seen them play together. Brammie Steve
Trevor Francis always struck me as one of football’s really nice guys. He was always popular around Birmingham and the tributes being paid to him locally are proof of this. My condolences to his family. Mariner always seemed first choice of greenwood. Certainly in tournaments and key qualifiers. Francis and woodcock were the backups of the early 80s. Eg WC 1982. therealhantsram
