So you think he should have been preparing for Waghorn, Washington, John Jules and Collins all to be injured?

Who are these freebies that will do a better job than Barkhuizen, NML or CBT up top?

It's a spectacular and abysmal run of luck in attacking terms without a doubt but I guess what some folk are saying is that since Warne was obviously chasing a striker until Wednesday pissed us about, then Warne himself obviously felt we needed another option due to cover existing injuries and over-reliance on poor Collins who surely needs to be given some respite from full 90 minute runouts week in week out with the lung-busting effort he always puts in. I think the criticism is probably largely directed at not maybe calling Wednesday's bluff and drawing a line in the sand and activating a backup plan while there was still time. Having said that of course, we don't really know all the ins and outs and maybe we did have a backup plan and maybe that fell through too and there is actually no blame to be laid at anyone's door, just wretched luck and other clubs/players being a pain in the arse.

In terms of the alternative striking options, I'm generally a believer in the 'square pegs' argument. Just my opinion but I'd rather see a limited ability specialist lined up than a fish out of water so they wouldn't need to be some footballing legend, just a reasonably solid pro (probably aging or younger) as cover. I say that because if it allows you to play to the plan that all the players are already familiar with then it disturbs the team pattern and strategy as little as possible. We've spent a season that has gone very well so far, playing in a certain way. I don't know who is available but then I guess I'm not paid to be chief scout or whatever. Wednesday had 2 forwards that we were seemingly chasing so surely we could have got a paler version from somewhere. I wouldn't have expected much more than that to give Collins a breather occasionally so doubtless we'd have been a bit 'meh' about it but at least we'd have some cover. I really feel for Collins because he's really stepped up this year with his goals and always pus a massive shift in but he gets kicked from pillar to post week in week out and an injury was always a possibility.

And they would all fit in our wage structure and there are no fitness concerns over any of them?

Didnt realise Forestieri was still playing, is he actually still playing. The other 3 wages or would they drop into league 1 would be the question. Wickham I think would be a reasonable target (willing to play in league 1 and affordable) but again the reason he’s playing at this level is because he has had a career that has been totally dominated by injury/fitness issues, which is the reason many are saying we shouldn’t have signed TJJ .

I reckon Gayle and Wickham would definitely sign. Joao and Forestieri maybes and Mousset probably not. But we basically need them to be able to play for a month until Wash is back as minimum.

Been over 24 hours since Owen's tweet.

Any danger on revealing the results, or are we going to drag it out all day?

I'll only accept the all day option if its good news.

They won't say anything till after 2pm Saturday I imagine

Nope. Reckon Stevie Wonder must be undertaking the tests.

No and as Sage says we won’t know until 2pm tomorrow when the team is out and we won’t know how bad until Doms interview with Warne post match

Cheers chaps. Seems like a lot of fuss over a scenario that we don't even know to be salient!

Might Warne be messing with Evans' head a bit? I wouldn't be surprised.

Maybe and whilst there will be a collective fist pump and buzz if Collins starts he's hardly Haaland. I'm not sure Stevenage will be quaking in their boots at NML or Barkz up top, so i imagine they'll plan for Collo starting until 2pm.

Warne Haters: 'We've got the best squad and biggest budget, we should be walking this league'

Also Warne Haters: 'We should have signed more players'

exactly my thoughts, can't have it both ways.

Gayle, Joao, Forestieri, Mousset, Wickham just as some suggestions.

I'd give you Joao as a possible option but that's all.

Gayle - 3 goals in his last 43 league matches

Wickham - injury prone, having played only 42 games in the last 3 seasons with 8 goals

Mousset  - 33 games in the last 3 seasons, with 4 goals

Forestieri - 34 years old, played 40 games since 2019 season with 5 goals and since 2022 plying his trade in the Malaysian Super League.

Really? You seen the size of NML? He's a bit of a unit and probably even stronger physically than Collo. For his last goal for instance, he just brushes off two defenders and dusts them. The lad's got wheels to spare. Personally, I'd rather try and mark Collo, especially if I was a 6 foot 3 slow as a barge CB.

That said, I think Collo probably allows more runners off the ball as he's good at taking possession with a defender at his back and that's probably the one area he has a distinct advantage over Nate, though as I said, I'm pretty sure Nate has more weapons in his armoury overall. I certainly wouldn't be losing sleep if Nate were to play in the middle.

Funnily enough I heard someone say the same thing last night at the monthly Captain Hindsights Convention. You should come next month?

Absolute b*******, i have been suggesting signing him back for years!...Just because he doen't run around enough...so Warne doesn't fancy him...but he is so much a better footballer than Collins!

I’m not saying they’re good. But if you would rather a winger have to play out of position for a month then that’s your prerogative. To me that scenario makes me sick.

Don’t get me wrong he’d do a job. But then we’d lose his talent from out wide.

Plus if he was that good at playing up top he’d have done it more often in his career.

If Collins is out I’m sure we’ll get to see your point in action. Hopefully I’m wrong.

We've also got the fluid front 3 option. I might be misremembering but didn't we experiment with this during the good run of form last season. I seem to remember thinking it looked ok, though I might as easily have imagined it. Don't get me wrong, losing Collo would be a massive ball ache, but my point was really, is it worth freaking out about when we don't know if it's even happened. Not for me.

Should have signed Chris Martin...he was free...and oh look, he has scored 8 in the last 8 games!

You make it sound so easy. Why do you assume that he would just sign for us anyway? He may have personal circumstances that  mean he prefers to stay in the Bristol area. What are we suppose to do, kidnap him?

Unless he plays then we’ll know it’s not bad at all at 2pm. 😉

I've been told the scan has been held up, Collins was in the A&E yesterday at Derby General, He was sent home after a 23 hour wait and told to come back Saturday morning when the Scan machine will be operating again ...lets hope they can rush the resulting scan through 👍

He's out for the season - possibly back for Playoffs

We are in for a free agent striker who was set to sign for another LG1 club - not been told who yet

That’s Gayle then. Been linked with Port Vale.
