They’re not any old company. They are funded thru the licence fee and they are required to be impartial. Lineker is their highest paid talent, is no expert on politics and his tweet was just stupid. For Lineker’s cronies to come out in support is sort of comical (‘solidarity, with a glottal stop) and the distinction between employees and other presenters is an irrelevant distraction. I think the BBC should keep Lineker off air until he agrees to be muzzled. And no I’m not a fan of Truss, Braverman or their despicable Rwanda plan

I have to admit I have no idea what's in Lineker's contract, so I'm only talking about this on a theoretical level, but I don't believe impartiality rules should extend beyond the workplace. Sure, if Lineker gave his stupid opinions on government policy whilst hosting match of the day or any other BBC program, throw the jug eared t***** out and send him his p45. He's not doing that though. I'm not comfortable with the idea that BBC employees can't publicly speak their minds on any contentious issue. How does Lineker being an insufferable champagne socialist interfere with him making trite observations about football?

Of course it doesn’t. The issue is not that. It is that he is the BBC’s highest earner, is an ‘influencer’ and he criticises government policy in breach of the charter/guidelines and in a post that is sensational and asinine

Her family being murdered in the holocaust is irrelevant?

And you think it's just as likely that there are people on this board who know as much about the holocaust as a woman whose family was killed in it?

It's like saying some random dude in America probably knows as much about the Hillsborough disaster as the parents of a kid who died in it.

I guess it's *possible* but it's a preposterous thing to say.

You do have a way of backing yourself into corners.

So I've backed myself into a corner by saying something that is possible ?

My grandad fought in World War 2 but my dad does not really know anything about it.

So I'm not sure what is so preposterous about saying that a holocaust survivor may not know much about language used by people 10 years before she was born.

Anyway, I'll let you have the win, you've already demonstrated you will never admit when you're wrong even after I called you out for lying about me editing a post.

Have a great day!

What a load of guff! Pun intended.

The BBC didn't hire Sugar as the equivalent to Trump the political figure, they hired him to be equivalent of Trump the outspoken businessman.

NBC sacked Trump from The Apprentice USA when he made derogatory comments as part of his electoral campaign - clearly they thought his association with their network was was pretty close! - so if you're going to be drawing that comparison then perhaps the BBC could and should 'try stopping him' airing his political views?

The BBC have not hired Sugar at all, The Apprentice is not made by the BBC.

This is nonsense. Anyone can see that the viewing figures were up for the same reason that everyone slows down to rubberneck an accident on the motorway.

Can only speak for myself but I watched it, safe in the knowledge that I'd just be watching football and not 45 minutes of inane drivel and people telling me what I had just watched, padded out with 15 minutes of highlights.

Didn't think it was great but only because of a lack of commentary.

Put pundits back on and I won't be watching again.

Just watch the Sky Sports YouTube highlights which come out earlier in the day then?

According to the BBC viewing figures for MOTD were up by half a million. That might give them food for thought .

Apparently it was just right wing gammons tuning into prove a point, nothing to do with the fact people want to watch football rather than listen to pundits waffling on about nothing and replaying every VAR dceision 10 times, I read it on Facebook.

I am too busy at 5.15 don’t like adverts . Don’t like chat shows which MOTD has been for many years now. The highlights on Saturday night were fine the only thing I missed was the theme tune.

My dad fought in the war in North Africa and was at D-Day plus 6 but until relatively recently, I knew next to nothing about the war.

This lady lived through the holocaust and had her family murdered. If you think those two events are similar then you probably think Derby beating Oxford was the same as Derby beating Benfica 3-0.

You clearly have little to no comprehension of how the Jewish people view and feel the holocaust, especially those who lost loved ones.

And in any case, this woman has read up on the murder of her own family (as 99.9% of people would) and knows a little bit more than most people on a DCFC football board, or she's pulling stuff out of her ass.

I was about to say that other than you, I doubt anybody on this board thinks her opinion of what the Germans did does not carry significantly more weight than their own. But, in reality, I don't think you even think that.

It goes back to you painting yourself into a corner by saying something that most people know is utter nonsense and leaving yourself with nowhere to go and nothing to do but lash out.

@G STAR RAM - it seems the lady in question has been awarded the MBE for her work on Holocaust education.

It looks like her father escaped twice from the Nazis whilst being shipped to internment camps.

She didn't lose her parents as was reported, but I'm not sure about her family members. They clearly had a torrid time though and her and her family were continually on the run and in hiding.

So she was talking about stuff/language that was happening during her lifetime.

I think we can agree now that she probably knows a teeny bit more about the holocaust than the people on this board, what do you think?

Strange the BBC are apologising to him given I’ve read on here from those privy to his contract that his tweet was a clear breach of guidelines and they were correct to act as they did

Yep, so many experts huh! It would seem that his contract is rather different to that outlined by 'sources close to Gary'. Colour me surprised!

Poor old BBC will have to put up with nobody watching the show anymore, I guess ?
