I’ve steered clear of this thread because I thought it would just make me angry and depressed. Given the direction the recently closed ‘behind closed doors’ thread went, I was probably right. So I’ll continue to steer clear, and think happy thoughts.

Yeh you wish!

I know...

The point was regardless of what we do in the meantime this is now the new normal no matter how many people are vaccinated/boosted.

Incorrect, as one of the variables involved in how quickly we move to it being endemic is the rate of vaccination coverage

That’s it then we’re doomed

I get the feeling that they've always harboured a hope that Omicron would be milder but didn't want to dare say it.

Right now I think the biggest concern is that it's so contagious it won't matter if we're locked down or not - everyone will have caught it and be isolating anyway, so society grinds to a halt that way instead

Interestingly when I posted. a link to an article saying it was a lot less dangerous in The Conversation it got no response.

BBC 5Live Drive got an expert from some university or other (I missed it but it could be the same one I guess) on now saying it may be 80% less dangerous and Tony Livesey said 'that's great news' (he'll be fired by the BBC no doubt for saying something so outrageous) and the Professor said 'it is but we need to be careful'.

He went on to explain that thy think the high transmission is because it's hitting younger people who are out socialising more at the moment and who are much less likely to be double vaccinated and had the booster.

He then said that we must get more people to take the booster.

Biased BBC naysayer and lunatic Livesey responded with ' but the uptake rate looks very impressive' in an almost happy voice.

To which the pretend scientist said 'it is, and as one supermarket chain says every little helps, but we need moe'r

So you can hear:

It's a lot less aggressive than was feared. Told you so.

Or:

The vaccine is working. Told you so.

Or you can be a grown up and take from it that it's a lot less aggressive than we thought and the booster is helping with that, so the advice to get it, is solid advice

Best keep to the half of the story that we most want to hear though.

Yes you don’t want to do anything sensible like stop all this isolation stuff to match the fact it’s pretty much like a cold

Just a thought though if it’s “mild” like a cold etc, then why the need to isolate? We don’t for flu/colds etc etc

Scotland bring forward their winter break from 4th January to start after Sundays games to counter their 500 capacity crowds.

Northern Island are not adopting Wales/Scotlands crowd restrictions.

It now apears that a new WAVE of optimism has crept in.

I guess because it's so contagious - if we all went about deliberately spreading it, then the case numbers would be phenomenal - and therefore the hospitalisation/deaths numbers, although a lower percentage, would track that?

Maybe, but if it’s now a mild version and we’re majority vaccinated would they track it? (Don’t know but it could be the end of all this)
