Our club is one big power grab , the sooner those that are desperate to use Derby to progress their career are gone the better

and we shouldn't be inviting anyone into our club who has that idea in mind!

We have to give this partnership a little time and it's got to be a better thing that Rooney can now concentrate on the game with mac assisting.

Hopefully the shape and attitude of the team will buck up a bit after a few more days with Steve on the training ground.

We don’t have a little time

Well that will be pretty much everyone.

Every club for every player is an opportunity to progress their career.

No players ambition is to play for Derby County and no higher.

Bar the big big clubs every single football club is a stepping stone until something better comes along.

I think we all agree Wazza has picked these next 2 games as the perfect time to be manager. But a good strong manager will have to find out if Lawrence is trying to let his contract run out . Identify targets for January. And for goodness sake don’t let Harry Redknapp get involved again

Its impossible to tell really isn't it.

In 1967 I suppose the young ex striker who blagged a job at Hartlepools would not have been fancied to become a decent manager. The big, clumsy, slow, Scottish centre forward called Alex Ferguson was not too shoddy when given a chance at managing.

Rooney is a strange one. He comes from a tough working class background in Liverpool, had a god given gift of playing football, was signed and developed by Ferguson and ended up as Manchester United's and England's top scorer of all time.

He hasn't got the easy charm of Lampard in front of the cameras, he's not the best role model of all time, but he might just have the football knowledge and streetwise cunning to make a fist of this management lark.

Whatever, he'll probably be judged for the rest of his life on what happens during the Derby v Wycombe match on Saturday.

Both Clough and Ferguson proved themselves to an extent with smaller clubs. Having said that I still think that Rooney maybe has what it takes. But not necessarily in this situation given that he has been part of the problem

everyone wants their career to go forward i agree, but players progressing their careers and coaching is a very different thing. you benefit from players fighting for the same position, our internal staff fighting over each other to get the top job? its pathetic.

they are in it for a quick buck and to create a reputation, not for the benefit of their employer. oh what have you created mel morris

from his point of view yes, from the clubs point of view absolutely not. these are the most important games for decades and we have a player managing us. at no other club would this happen

if he loses them it doesnt matter to him, he just fades into the background and waits for somebody else to stab in the back to take the top job, leaving Derby relegated in the process

hi all

I applaud this very sensible decision by Wazza.  He now has the chance, with help from the Mac, to show what he can do now that he isn't competing for a place on the pitch with anyone.  He will gain much respect among the squad for this decision I believe, and hopefully we will see a much improved performance tomorrow as a result.  At least now the lines of accountability are clear.  It can't get any worse, so the only way is up!  Give him until Xmas to show what he can do and then we'll know.

LR2

Unfortunately if he flops in these next two games then there's every reason not to give him until Christmas to show what he can do. In fact, anything other than a win on Saturday is going to lead to some wanting blood - never mind him out the club.

We can't afford to give him until Christmas which will be another seven games where we could find ourselves cut away from any other team never mind safety as we embark on a season that's gathering pace to break all kinds of records.

DET: "Wayne Rooney is to concentrate solely on leading from the sidelines as Derby County head into a huge bottom of the Championship clash with Wycombe Wanderers.

Rooney has taken over as head figure of the four-strong group of coaches who have run the side since Phillip Cocu departed as manager.

The Telegraph report that the decision was taken this morning following last night's dispiriting 3-0 loss at Middlesbrough."

"All's lost...to prayer!" said no Derby fan, ever.

If that's true and the players found out about Rooney taking charge by Sky Sports News then this club is even more of a shambles than we thought.

What the hell is going on?

No more player power?

The info re Rooney hasn't been on SSN that long - who leaked it to them? A player not in favour? ?

I imagine Mac met with Mel and the board on Thursday to give his opinion following the defeat on Wednesday night. Mel (or Mac) then pulled Rooney into his office after training took place late-ish on Thursday to confirm the new arrangement. Someone leaked the info to Percy and Sky. All the players were at home so obviously found out by news reports rather than waiting until they turned up at the training ground today.

The big question is why is stuff getting leaked now when we went a few years without anything.
