Seems capable of playing in 3 positioms which we need cover in if players are to leave, sensible signing at a cheap price
Whoneedshuls
Surely after this signing we have to start trying to get players outs squads getting a wee bit bloated..
RamLad1884
Get rid of Butterfield and Thorne, bring this lad in. Leaves us with 6 midfielders for 3 positions, which is about right. Ledley/Huddlestone, Bryson/Evans, Mount/Johnson Considering Bryson and Huddlestone have both been injured in pre-season already, having 6 midfielders for the 3 spots seems a smart route. If he can cover CB too then there's our 4th CB option if either of the first teamers get injured.

The holding role is going to be absolutely key to the way Frank wants to play . Under McLaren the holding role was key as it was the main outlet like a pivot in the teams attacking outlet , under Frank it seems as though the holding role will require more of a ball winner , who does the simple things and is like the glue for the rest of the team , basically wins the ball back and any more is a bonus. Huddlestone may struggle in this system , Ledley will be first choice . Frank played in front of Makelele the man who pretty much invented this role. He must know what to look for in a CDM. Rab a dab doo
Seems like a no nonsense steady eddie type player. He obviously has potential which Frank and Jodie could improve further with coaching. In addition helps to further bring down the average age of first team squad. At the price being quoted £250k is punt worth taking.
lukedcfc
Back up to Ledley I reckon, ledley deserves to start after his pre season performances. I think huddlestones time at Derby could be over, our style of play will never suit him. Huddlestone will see himself as a starter, and rightly so, but will have to leave to get it. I think Butterfield is a better option on the bench in our system. It will be interesting to see what happens with both players.
Carl Sagan
Perhaps he will turn out to be the new George Thorne, just as Ledley appears the new Eustace? And as we go through the season he will slowly ease himself into the team and give us an added dimension?
Parsnip
You know what would be nice? It'd be nice for once to pick up a player for £250k and in one season turn him into a £5m player. Like every other club seem to do. Like what Ipswich have just done with Waghorn. We usually do the exact opposite - we turned £5m Butterfield and £3m Blackman into £250k players in a matter of months! Maybe with this lad it's our turn to get a ridiculous return on investment! lukedcfc
I'm not a massive fan of Butterfield, far from it , but he was good in the Clement era. I think a confident Butterfield is worth much more than 250k, he probably won't t get the chance to prove us wrong though.
jimbo jones
Asked a reading fan about Evans on another message board I post on, a good level headed poster, so thought I’d share what he had to say.

Can’t have 3/4 CDM for 1 spot Maybe he is covering his bets and getting him on a cheap one in case he has to find a plan B if we get found out on 4-3-3. A younger more mobile CDM to go with Ledley or Hudds in a 4-2-3-1 set up? With one leaving or gping on loan (Thorne probably)
3766dan
I’m all about cheap signings. 250k signing is a no lose situation. If he plays even a little bit at derby his value will be at least 1m
DCFC27
Huddlestone still has a role to play this year, style of play we will be playing will cause a lot of fatigue and a lot of squad rotation. He may not be quick but he's clever, can read the game well enough to win balls in midfield and there is no their Derby player that can receive a ball under pressure and play inch perfect passes as well as he does. Huddlestone/Ledley/Evans would give us great depth in this position over the course of the season. Evans filling in a CB also good news as we only have 3 CBs. Players not in team or subs today, except injured ones, appear surplus to requirements. Let the cull begin.
DcFc Dyycheee
Is it confirmed to be 250k? Unbelievably cheap if so.

RamNut
It wouldn't be a surprise to see Hudds go to Snake City. people go on about vydra, but tom is the one who doesn't look particularly well suited to an energetic, pressing, short passing game. DCFC1388
He is clearly out of favour with only 1 year left, i wouldnt be surprised if it was around 250k with add ons up to 750k. Or they can give us 1m & Evans for Butterfield!
