Another point but we deserved to lose tonight. Martin needs dropping for his own good to lower his ego. He did have service into him tonight and he was woeful. Bent and Weimann should start at the weekend. Bent needs a run of games and I think it's the perfect time now given the lack of consistency upfront. Should have been out of sight first half before Reading got back into the game, wasting chances when the opposition back four made clumsy mistakes.

Utterly dire performance. Totally outplayed. Wrong formation. After three minutes it was obvious that we were being overrun in midfield. Derby are exhausted. Martin has lost it. When things are not going well, stick to simple things. Five points out of twelve. We are in a slump. I first saw it at Leeds, but was not certain about it.

Hi Ninos, good to catch up at the game. You are an intelligent guy.Pretty much agree with your scoring except for Warnock. Some superb tackles from him that probably saved us from a hammering. The pressure has got to the Rams. Not an attitude problem at all. They have ruin out of steam after catching up the leaders. Boro are going to run away with it. Too good for us. Burnley are playing well again and Hull are as good as us. Three horse race for second place now.

The poorest performance of the season by a country mile for me that. No urgency ,no commitment and no effort. It was like we were a team relegated and the players were there because they had to be. like Paul Clement said the evening was awful and fair play to Reading they deserved to win, they ran us ragged. I can take a draw or a loss with effort, but when you see that you do wonder what the players have been doing all week. It makes it even harder to understand when most of them had a rest on Saturday. The only player who could take any credit tonight would be Grant as he kept us in the game. Huge improvements needed on Saturday after that.

My first EVER game with a season ticket.

After 18 years I've finally bloody got one, will be admittedly racking up some train fares from Brum but it should be 100% worth it just to get my chance to shout at Derby players that I pay their wages

What a ******* horrific start.

Last season, I made a comment to the effect that players who do not expect to play in the Premier can give up a bit in the Championship when new players come in to potentially replace them. No real evidence of this so far but it may be something to watch out for in the coming weeks.COYR

Two fantastic pieces of football tonight - one, a tackle from Warnock in the last 5 minutes which stopped one of their players from almost certainly scoring and the second a full stretch tip onto and round the post from Granty - I was right in line with the shot and how Granty managed to get to it in a crowded area was little short of incredible

The rest...................

Grant 7 - Good saves when needed. Not great kicking mind

Christie 6 - Fell into the trap he had last season. Stop thinking.

Keogh 7 - Couldn't play out from the back due to the pressing but did his best. Defended well considering Brad n Butters were overloaded (thanks Ince)

Shackell 7 - Actually some moments where he looked rattled. Weird

Warnock 7- He's all on his own this guy. Gets fook all passing options. Fans screaming "go to him" don't understand defending.

Johnson 5 - Poor marking, poor passing. Can't battle from defensive midfield because it's a position that requires positional discipline.

Butterfield 6 - Should thank Ince for having two men to mark all the time. Couldn't play out from the back, as mentioned, didn't get forward quick enough.

Blackman 6 - Started well. Should pay for a ticket after being forced to watch the rest of the match.

Ince 5 - A 5 seems harsh considering he looked to be causing chaos for a time. But he just watched the two holding players get runners at them. One being a player he could have tracked.

Russell 5 - Same old. Chin on chest, nothing for Warnock.

Martin 5 - I'll just chill out and chuck a limb at the ball occasionally. Nobody helps me so why should I help them.

Hendrick 5 - Can't play deep.

Camara 5 - Don't defend. You're scarily bad at it. Never stood a chance tbf. Reading were comfy by then

------

Reading pressed high and were wide open at the back. Looked vulnerable when we got in their third. But we couldn't do it. Far too sloppy. None of the forwards came to collect. All happy to watch the defending.

Reading were aggressive on the ball, worked for the man in possession and will be gutted with a point.

Derby were asleep, played as individuals and will be thrilled with a point and should be ashamed at the concentration shown.

Worse performance of the season imo. This and Hillsborough. Leeds and Forest lacked quality and decisions. They weren't sloppy and casual.

Reading were weak in their own third and we rarely tested it. When we did it looked like we could score goals. In our third we just managed to do enough to hang onto them.

Slept on it thoughts...

worst performance of the season in the league

slow, lethargic, second to every ball, tippy tappy.

Resting players can have this affect

Johnson wouldn't sit with Butterfield so every time it broke down there was only one midfielder to get past. Knife through butter. Excuse the pun.

Why the hell didn't Clement change the formation? This was obviously a problem

Quick ratings -

Grant 6, Christie 6, Keogh 6, Shackell 5, Warnock 5, Butterfield 5, Johnson 3, Blackman 4, Ince 5, Russell 2, Martin 3

Curtains was making a similar point in another thread recently.

It is a conundrum for the manager /head coach. How do you continue to squeeze maximum effort out of squad players when all they see are bigger money signings being brought into their positions?

For all the talk of progress and investment I worry that the core issues seem to be almost identical to last season. We have only 1 specialist CDM and the expensive new hires don't fit the role. And we continually revert to 1 central striker regardless of form.

The coach still appears to be seeking his best plan b.

I am already hearing and reading comments about us starting to bottle it again.  On recent performances they may have a point.  However, I hope and believe not (at the moment).

It is time to dump Martin and play Blackman down the middle.  I also do not think we play well with Johnson in the team.  I would play a midfield of Thorne, Butterfield and Hendrick or even Bryson if he is fit.  I like Russel but he is lacking confidence, so I would drop him to the bench and play Camara.

As has been said, stop buggering about with the formation Clement.

Twice we have rested players in the past few weeks, and the game after hasn't been great. Come out playing slow, having no rhythm and looking half asleep.

I don't buy the resting players excuse.

Let us be honest with ourselves the last 4 or 5 games, we have not been firing on all cylinders.

Leeds we were not that good, Fulham we nicked it, we were 2nd best at Boro, we nicked a win at a division 2 team and poor again last night. I hope this is it and we can put in performance against Brum because dropping 7 pts from 4 games is not promotion form.

Now I don't want to appear negative and obviously I haven't coached Chelsea or Real Madrid. But didn't that formation from the start run the risk of us getting over-run in midfield. And when it obviously wasn't working why didn't clem change it? Bringing Hendrick on for Johnson was largely a like for like, not addressing the fundamental problem. Last season the wheels came off cos thorne was injured and so were his two replacements at DM. Maybe clem didn't see that but those of us that did sincerely don't want it to happen again.
