If we're going to make the diamond work we need to keep playing it, and tomorrow would be another good chance to bed it in.

Still not sure why some decided that the XI we put out on Saturday meant we were out for a draw....we played diamonds in pre-season, and similar line ups, and it very much looked to me like we were trying to win every game.

We looked like we were getting somewhere with it in pre-season, and it's going to take more than a scrappy opening day to convince me that it's dead and buried. We just need the full-backs to get forward more - something Christie, Ssewankambo and Forsyth aren't afraid to do. The game tomorrow is the perfect chance for them to make a mark on that position in the diamond formation.

I'm sure the narrower pitch at Fratton Park would work in our favour as well.

I'd go with

                               Grant

Christie            Pearce  Keogh       warnock

                           Hendrick

       Russell                                Weimann

                             Dawks

Pompey boss Paul Cook.

Paul Cook is to shuffle his team for the Fratton Park clash with the Rams (7.45pm).

Pompey’s boss said: ‘I will play what team I think is right to play.

‘There are lads who thought on Saturday they should be playing. Well, they will certainly get an opportunity to play tomorrow night.

Irrespective of planned changes, Cook admitted the Capital One Cup ranked low on his list of ambitions this term.

He added: ‘Our priority is promotion this year. Come the end of the season, if I lost players in the Capital One Cup – such as the likes of Gary Roberts – would that be right? In my opinion, no, so I certainly won’t risk it.

‘It is not a case of rotating – if it was a league game tomorrow night there wouldn’t be any changes. It’s that simple, I won’t rotate, I am not a rotational type of person.

‘But this cup competition is something that, in the list of what I want to achieve this year, is not very high on the list of priorities.’

Like to see 4-3-3................let's go for it.

                           Grant

Christie      Keogh      Pearce     Forsyth

       Hendrick.      Baird         Dawkins

 Ince                   Martin                Wiemann

Save Bent for the penalty shootout!

Phone DCFC tickets. I think you may be able to collect a ticket for the Derby end but best to phone & check. Or phone Portsmouth I suppose.

Thanks boss, no collection available, looks like I'll get there nice and early and buy one down there though. Hoorah!

I'mm 99% certain Bent will start tonight and I doubt Bennett will even be in the squad

I'm still holding out hope that the Hughes injury is a big wind up and he's going to start tomorrow, score, and reveal an undershirt in his celebration that just says "AHAHAHA! I GOT YA! ADMIT IT, I GOT YA!"

if this was the case, I would want him out of our club right now. He would've possibly cost us 2 points in the Bolton game just to wind us up.

My strongest XI is

Carson

Christie Keogh Shacks Forsyth

Thorne Baird

Russell Ince Weimann

Martin

If were taking the cup seriously then a strong team is needed to be sure of no upsets... I wouldn't know who Clement could play tonight, but I think a 4231 could be our strongest formation.

After the team selection at Bolton who knows who starts. I couldn't guess it.

Why can't we pick our strongest available squad for our cup and league

matches, give both cups a good run,and get promotion?

Because I don't think anyone knows what that is... judging by that selection on Saturday, I certainly don't think Clement does.
