Alan Nixon...

Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants Derby County midfield marvel Will Hughes – to groom him as the next Steven Gerrard, writes Alan Nixon.

Hughes, just 18, is already being monitored by the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Derby want at least £7million for their wonderkid but could be open to a sale and loan back deal with one of the Premier League’s big boys.

Derby chief Nigel Clough knows Hughes is destined for the top and a sale now would help him build up his squad – but would ideally like to keep the youngster at Pride Park for another season.

3 things from this article:-

1 - Been starting to have my doubts about Rodgers and think these have been vindicated if he has admitted he wants to groom Hughes, although he is 18 so the time might be right

2 - Next Steven Gerrard? Does the writer of this article expect to be taken seriously? At least try and come up with a good comparison.

3 - Where has the figure of £7million come from?

Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Derby County teenage sensation Will Hughes.

The 18-year-old midfielder - touted as the future of England - has been on the radar of the Premier League heavyweights for some time now, with Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle United all previously credited with an interest.

The Reds are keen to pip their rivals to the signature of Hughes and are now weighing up an offer, according to the Mirror. The report claims Derby will hold out for at least £7m to sanction the sale and might also want the youngster to finish this season at Pride Park on a one-year loan.

If Rodgers is given time at Liverpool I think that's the best destination for Will in so many ways. He'd be chomping at the bit to go there as well.

Obviously 10 million plus and a loan back would be the most popular deal, but knowing they overpay AND if they get a lot of money for Suarez, we should look to push them for 12/13 million

What were they willing to pay for Ince? What did they pay for Adam?

English players like Ince/Zaha/Walcott/Sinclair... They're all over the place. That's what we produce here. Frankenstein CB's, pacey wingers who's legs are faster than their brains and old school target men.

We don't produce Will Hughes. Maybe there are some knocking about not getting games but they won't be buying them.

The British alternatives to Hughes are there?

That's the line I'd play anyway.

Honestly, good luck grooming him into the next Gerrard. You should buy Ince and groom him into the next Hyypia too.

Liverpool have ***** scouts if they think tippy tappy quick feet Will is going to play 40yard passes to the corner flag every two seconds.

Nice compliment but impossible comparison. If you're going to compare him to a mega star I'd say pick a Spaniard. Or the most recent Scholes?

Gerrard?! ffs

Liverpool fans just can't bare the thought that there is no Gerrard, therefore they need a replacement or someone who can come in now and eventually be moulded into the next Gerrard and take the reigns slowly in a transition.

Unfortunately Hughes is not that

Henderson for £20m, I'd forgotten about that. Wow Liverpool, just wow. Hughes has to be worth £30m at least in comparison...

Difference between Henderson and Hughes is they bought him off the back of a good season for Sunderland in Premier League mid-table, as opposed to Championship upper-mid-table. Hughes has yet to show he can play in the Premier League right now, however highly he's thought of.
