Without him, we would’ve been relegated last season and that would’ve been £10m plus lost in revenue. He’s more than paid his fee back, despite his minimal game time IMO.

I remember going to that one. My first visit to the North East, on the “ Ramaway”. Assured of a warm Geordie welcome, some Derby fans were hit by flying objects towards the end of the game, which we won fairly comfortably.

We were stood in and among a few Home fans. A bloke next to us kept shouting something like “ It’s a bad bal an al”. We got it eventually….poor pass!
Strange after such an introduction that I’ve been in the region for the last 38 years. I didn’t see that coming at the time?

Met Rush at a pre season friendly at Port Vale a few years back. I felt dirty afterwards and would have looked outside if he said it was raining.

As we're all aware, this season marks the 50th anniversary of our first League title. Had an idea for a while to mark it by doing a walk through the season as it happened 50 years ago (rather than just next May) - sort of a variation on the 'Derby on this day thread'
Whilst its stating the obvious to suggest a first title changed a club, this season in particular acted as a benchmark for Derby. It was the first season we had the Ram that we still see on our shirts today, it set the platform for our European Cup exploits the following season (and Brian Clough's obsession with landing the trophy after the Juventus semi-final) & our later title in 1974-75. It is also the breakthrough season which still affords Derby a lot of respect nationally from fans of a certain age & one often remembered for the nail-biting ending.
I wasn't around 50 years ago so my efforts will be confined to finding Youtube footage (if it exists), match reports, memorabilia & updated league tables as the season gets going. Where it probably needs fleshing out is with contributions from those who were there at the particular matches - what do you remember about particular games, what were the away fans like (good & lets face it, bad in a lot of instances) & any other memories/match rituals of the time
Anyroad, enough wittering from me. Exactly 50 years ago today we kicked off 1971-72 against Manchester Utd at the Baseball Ground. Youtube highlights below but we were actually 0-2 down in our opener against the Man Utd side of Law, Best & Charlton...

Mel is a Rams fan and currently making up the shortfall in income each month to keep the club operating. It’s easy to use the word hate on social media, but would you say it to his face......unlikely. He has done as much as he can to turn us into an established Premier league club, but unfortunately it hasn’t come to fruition. He is now trying to secure our future by bringing in new owners. Football comes down to fine margins as we know and there was another Keogh moment yesterday when Byrne did a triple toe loop on the penalty spot.
Massive mistakes with recruitment of both managers and players has been our downfall, while trying to chase the dream of Premier League football and I’m sure Mel would agree and do things differently if he had a time machine.
Forum members posting hate comments should be banned in my opinion.

Problem is, almost nobody comes out of this situation with any credit.
    The players are underperforming.
Good players aren't showing their quality.
The manager isn't motivating the players.
    The tactics appear confused.
    The squad is threadbare.
The owner wants out and has steered the ship firmly towards the rocks.
Absolutely everyone (almost) can have legitimate criticism aimed at them.
The problem with the criticisms is what's plan B?
Mel needs to go, but if he walks who takes over?
Rooney isn't experienced enough to take the team anywhere, but who would take the reins here?
The players aren't good enough but there's no way to replace them.
There's quality in areas in the team but we can't make it show on the pitch. We can't replace them and we have no money to change the coaching staff.
This is going to be a long slog of a season.
All we can do is support the team, stop getting on their backs and be the best support we can be.

Seems to be a southerly fan migration generally. To counter that, my work route took me from Derby ( after 28 years) to South Yorkshire and then to Northumberland 38 years ago.
Strange how you can’t let go irrespective of where you live. Lots of folks up here in the North East can’t understand what’s happening to our Club and ask me about the background to our present dilemma…….I can’t really help them?

I was born in Northampton and lived just me and my mum. I fell in love with football but she had no interest at all. My uncle supported Derby and in 1988 when I was 9 he offered to take me to a Derby match and see if I liked it. Southampton away 0-0. I was hooked. Not long after he got me a season ticket.
A few years later they moved north so I was stuck not going, he would pick me up on the way to away matches like Luton and Watford etc and I appreciated it but it wasn’t enough. As soon as I was old enough to go on the train I had a season ticket again.
When I was 30 we moved to Newquay and I cancelled my season ticket thinking it was too far to drive. A couple of seasons later I decided 600 mile round trip is not too far. I now have a season ticket again and my 9 year old is as much a Derby fan as I ever was.

It's about time the young players were cut some slack - Buchanan, Bird and Knight are still only 20 and Sibley 19. You mention Hendrick and Hughes - we knew Will was a special talent, at least at Championship level - but they were 24 and 22 before getting their 'big' moves - who knows what level our youngsters will be at in 4 years time.
They have just had to endure a fight against relegation which would have tested the most seasoned professionals let alone those with very little experience - what a horrendous season in which to try and be fully integrated into the Clubs'senior squad.
One of the saving graces about having no fans in the ground is at least, with things going wrong, the boo boys are kept at bay.
