I feel firmly stuck in the ‘I don’t want Derby to sack Paul Warne but am concerned about how bad the football is’ corner.
The league table does not lie but the performances across this entire season as a whole have been pretty abject. I am very, very concerned that we would not survive in the Championship under Warne. We absolutely won’t playing like this.

The assets are worth whatever was paid for them. The valuation of those assets doesn’t have to be what was on the books of the previous company. However, the accounting policy on the valuation of a player via the length left on a contract might be similar to that on the previous company.

The intangible asset here is possibly Bieliks contract. However this asset, in my view should have been significantly impaired. The carrying value which I’m assuming is around £2m seems too big especially given that he was later moved on to Birmingham at a price much less than £2m. So there must be other players within that valuation.
We just need more detail, we’re just guessing here.

This might be true but given that there is no “disposals” in the year it might suggest that knight didn’t have a carrying value in the accounts. Hard to be sure without the details but perhaps knight had a £nil carrying value.

It’s something I’ve noticed for a little while. Ever since the argument with away fans in Autumn, around the time we were underperforming and the away support was very vocal. Since then, I’ve thought Hourihane has been more reserved, like there’s been a disconnect. I’m not suggesting he’s been unprofessional, just removed from the celebrating at times.
However, last nights celebrations were very much him enjoying the moment with the fans. Great goal, and he deserved that moment.

I recall a player called Calum ball. He scored once when I watched the rams at home to West Ham.

In the charts at the time was the song “Cannon Ball” by Damien Rice.
When he scored I wished momentarily for the crowd to sing “he floats like Calum Ball.
I think he went on to score only two or three more times and sadly went on to a fairly mediocre career. The song never caught on.

    Ah well. Great song though.

I didn’t know B4. In fact I know very little about him. I just knew from his posts about his loyalty and his positivity towards the rams. Even when the chips were down he always posted something positive or even started positive threads. It made me smile.
He might be almost a stranger to me, but I thought he was great.
Given how up and down we have been this season, I just wonder if today’s result was “meant to be” as a tribute to B4.
    My condolences to his family.

I think we've reached the point now, when a manager starts clutching at straws, desperately trying something new to stave off the seemingly inevitable parting of the ways.

I'd imagine tomorrow's training session will see Sonny Badley up front, Josh Vickers banging it long up to him, and James Collins so far offside he's mostly retrieving the ball for goal kicks.

Warne will return to the managers office in despair, coffee in one hand, Winter 2023/23 holiday brochure in the other.

He'll thump his head on the desk in sheer frustration, and begin typing out his resignation letter.

"FFS, even this desk is against me" he'll moan, as his fingers struggle to hit the right keys as the table wobbles precariously back and forth.

Investigating further, he realises the force of the head butt has dislodged a dusty old folder being used to even out the wonky desk legs.

He picks up the folder, expecting its probably just some old accounting ledger we didn't want the EFL to see, and wipes the dust from the cover.

    'The Steve McClaren playbook'.

He opens it gingerly, like Indiana Jones opened the Ark, and gazes in rapt wonder at its contents.

He realises, for the first time in his life, that the ball serves its purpose better on the floor, passing can be better than running, and effort is no substitute for ability.

He slides the holiday brochure back under the table leg, and sets to work typing up his new vision of football management, ready to impart this knowledge of his staff and players, and before we know it, the Rams are flying up the table.

All I needed was time, he'll declare to the local media upon automatic promotion in April 2024.

    Prologue.

It's October 2024, and the Rams are struggling to establish themselves back in the Championship.

The fans are unhappy, the owner's coming under pressure to make a change, so Paul dips once again into his managerial bible.

It's done him so well, so far, but try as he might he can't find any answers.

He knows there's a section called Plan B, but he's never had to delve that deeply, all his prayers had been answered in the first section, so he was saving Plan B for the Prem.

Needs must though, so he turns the page eagerly.
    Plan B.

It's blank, obviously, apart from a picture of a giant mug, and a Newcastle telephone no.

My son and I travel home and away at great expense to support this team. I am not and never will be 'outside noise ' . You should be grateful we care enough to have an opinion of your hopeless coaching ability, trying to play a style that was fit for the 80s.  Never take this club nor the supporters for granted whilst you leach off our backs getting very well paid for a substandard job

Malty reacted to Comrade 86 in Derby County vs Exeter City (H) Match Thread
Shame to see so-called fans labelling our own player as 'dogshit' and other choice terms. By all means call him out on the game, but is the abuse really necessary? He's a Derby player after all. Some on here might like to consider how they'd feel if they were being assessed in such charming terms for their efforts at their place of work. Whatever you think of his ability, he's still a Rams player and entitled to a modicum of respect from us fans as such. He's also 5 from 13 in the league this season, which is far from the horror story some of the drama queens on here portray. Hard to imagine, other spitting on the badge or flat out throwing it in, what would actually warrant terms like 'dogshit', but missing an easy square pass certainly isn't one of them. And this after we've won the game too!
Likewise Exeter - without fail, every time we win, we get a chorus of "well (insert club name) were by far the worst team we've faced all millennium" type comments. So f****** tedious. Last night, Oxford were beaten by a team languishing in the bottom 3 and Portsmouth could not muster a goal in 95 minutes against the mighty Cambridge, which more sensible heads might think tells you all you need to know about this league. The fact is, we're a league 1 team (as was evidenced by our failure to secure promotion last season) and right now we're playing like one, as often as not. The very same people who sagely pontificated on how hard it would be to get out of this league, are some the chippiest ***** on here now we're struggling. Get in the bin!
As for the game, the result was never in doubt. I thought we looked comfortable, pretty much throughout and were more than good value for the 2-0. They tried to play football, which was a pleasant surprise, but we were very good without the ball last night, harrying and pressing well and you could see their last vestiges of hope evaporate with the second goal. On the rare occasions they enjoyed a little possession, we kept our shape brilliantly and never really gave them too much hope. I think we look as good as any team I've seen in the league defensively speaking and we have a decent quality midfield if we can somehow keep Max healthy of mind and body and in good form. Still short of that explosive goal threat, though if we play like we did last night, we've enough to trouble most sides.
As for the result, it could and maybe should have been 4-0 and without the interventions of the myopic linesman, it might well have been. Surely that is worthy of more than begrudging praise, if any. Let's be honest here, there's no such thing as a 'routine win' for a side with our current home record! With 'routine' help from the officials, more often than not we conspire to turns 3 points into 1, or none at all, so let's not pretend otherwise, eh!
Moving forwards, I hope that this is not another false dawn and that the attacking line-up is deployed against all but the best teams in the league, where a more circumspect approach is perhaps understandable. While I think we're a long way off Championship quality right now, we do have a strongish squad for L1 and we really need to be ensconcing ourselves firmly in the top 6 sooner, rather than later. Meet that milestone and we can then set about trying to reel in Oxford and / or Pompey which is a far from impossible feat if we can just add some consistency to our game.
